Who has played this game?
First hearing about it I heard mixed views.

After picking it up for 10 bucks (hell yeah) I gave this game a good sit down and after completing the main story I needed a smoke cuz I think I came.

The characters are compelling and have actual issues and emotions (nice change for games) and some hardcore character development that makes me laugh hysterically when I clicked New Game and was reminded of what the main character was like.

Is that a turn-based game made by Square Enix?

If is isn't then I'm thinking of the wrong game.

I got it at GameCrazy.
Although the sale ended that day.
Or they were telling me that to make me buy it right there.

It's not turn-based.
But it is a Squeenix thing.
Only good thing they've made recently.

I picked it up cheaply, played it for a couple of hours and quit - not because I didn't like it, but because I can't really be bothered with a big JRPG at the moment. Which sort of makes me wonder why I bought it. I didn't hate it though, so no doubt I'll get around to it when I've got a slightly longer attention span.

Unskippable told me enough about this game so that I know to avoid it at all cost.

Unless, it's all just a parody of JRPG characters and the developement you mention makes up for that horrible beginning. If it's that and has real-time combat, I could get into it.
stupid in the beginning, but it gets really good really quickly.

imagine the manga Reborn!. it's a bit like that.

Yeah, the beginning is just supposed to be putting into your head what kind of character you're playing.
An average dude who just plays the flute and is kinda whiny.
The development of the main character is astounding though, you basically go from being a total ***** to being the biggest badass in the world.

It's not even that big of a game.
If you have a good sit down you can finish it within a few days.
It's meant to be replayed at a much harder difficulty.

What about the combat?
No random battles, technique attacks that can flow together quite well.
Some very challenging boss fights and the combat varies enough to keep you interested.
Plus your companions techs can be switched around to what you think will be good.

This game is majorly under looked, which is sad because it has a very unique setting and great game play.

No, I believe he's thinking of Last Remnant, though both LR and Infinite Undiscovery were made by Squeenix, only LR is turn-based.

Enchanted Arms is turn-based too, but it's made by Ubisoft. It's also better than LR and Infinite Undiscovery, though IU does have it's moments.

It's a Tri-Ace game published by Square-Enix...

I disagree, The Last Remnant is an excellent "hardcore" JRPG, in that it is very rewarding once you understand it's innovative battle system. Enchanted Arm's, or what little I played of it, just seemed very cliché - a lot like Infinite Undiscovery. Yet IU had the decent combat system and character development making it a decent game.

Regardless, Lost Odyssey is a better game than any of them...

What Infinite Undiscovery? It's incredibly cliché, just like all of Tri-Ace's games bar possibly the Valkyrie Profile series the game has all the major stereotypes seen within the genre:

. Capell - the young male lead that develops into the saviour of the world on his journey. (Whilst I admit the development was well-done).

. Sigmund - The fatherly figure that will usually die giving the pupil motivation.

. Edward - The anti-hero. Part of the protagonists group that dispises him until some event late on in the game gives him a change of heart.

. Aya - The love interest that for some unexplained reason is in love with the lead (she's probably the best character in the game - and much better than her Star Ocean 4 twin Reimi)

Need I go on?

Story-telling has never been Tri-Ace's strong point, just see the piss-poor story in Star Ocean : TLH for proof (incidentally I am currently playing it).

Enchanted Arms is by Sega.

It also sports some of the worst acting you will hear on a modern game console. In both languages.

Right at the start, Capell felt like the only sane man in an RPG world that was determined to play every cliche in the book. If they'd kept and built on that facet of his character, having him going around and doing the "wrong" things but winning because of it, it would have been brilliant.

But he soon lost that spark of defiance, and he, like the others, became infected.

Besides the Lost Odyssey part, I disagree back. The Last Remnant is an excellent "hardcore" WRPG with turn-based combat. In that it's the combat system and nothing else, the story is non-existent and the sidequests are pathetic. The combat system never becomes rewarding, since once the second disc starts each battle is won in the same way, and the story is absolute arse. That's why I like Enchanted Arms and IU better, because they actually have a story to tell, not just continuous pointless battles.

Yep. Though the main one it goes for is how everything you do in the game everything advances the plot of the real villain. The point where you stop doing this and actually turn things around is not, as it usually is, 80% of the way through, it's at the third stage of the final boss.

Still, EA did have quite a fun battle system, even if the 'mons you could collect were all but completely irrelevant as soon as you had four "proper" characters.
