Infinity Ward: Modern Warfare 3 Leak Partly Accurate

According to Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling, parts - but not all - of today's Modern Warfare 3 mass info leak were the Real McCoy.

Earlier today, a "trusted source" close to Infinity Ward leaked heavily-teased [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/110018-Modern-Warfare-3-Blows-Up-Brooklyn-London-and-Mogadishu] but as-of-yet-unannounced Modern Warfare 3. The game would be traveling all around the world, said the leak, with missions in places like Dharmasala, New York, Dubai, Paris and Prague starring players as British SAS or a Russian Federal Protective Services agent - among others.

There was a ton of information revealed in the Kotaku [http://kotaku.com/5801226/the-modern-warfare-3-files-exclusive-first-details-on-the-biggest-game-of-2011] post, from multiplayer details to a complete story breakdown. It was only natural for gamers to wonder: How much of this is real?

According to Infinity Ward's community mastermind Robert "fourzerotwo" Bowling, some of the leaked info is correct - but he took to his Twitter account [http://twitter.com/#!/fourzerotwo/status/69087556318396416] to caution gamers to wait for the authentic reveal. "A lot of hype & a lot of leaked info on #MW3, some still accurate, some not. To avoid spoiling the experience, I'd wait for the real reveal."

To be honest, I'm not sure this is the right move for Bowling and Infinity Ward. By admitting that some of the information is authentic, it stands to reason that the "trusted source" does in fact know what's up with Modern Warfare 3. By that implication, anything in the leak that isn't real was probably real at some time during development, as I can't think of any plausible way for the source to be spot-on with some things and wildly off the mark on others.

Of course, it could always be a calculated gambit to have COD fans endlessly debating one another about which parts are real and which are false, working up the hype machine early before the official reveal in June. That works too.

What's there to spoil? You'll shoot lots of dudes, experience a setpiece and get killed in a cutscene. Cue a new locale and take it from the top.

Well, the fact that some of the stuff was accurate confirms that this game probably won't be a prequel, but rather a full on sequel to Modern Warfare 2. I didn't want to see a prequel. I've been loyal to the franchise for many years now and I want to see a continuation to the Modern Warfare saga. I'll probably get this game once I return from studying abroad.

It's a pity Bowling isn't going spare anymore information.
I simultaneously want to congratulate and strangle you for that one. I guess that means it was a success?

I just want the option to turn off the aim assist. If they do that... who knows, it might be an average game in my eyes, rather than a patronising pile of piss.

There is, at least there was in Black Ops.

Infinity Ward didn't become Respawn, just the members who were let go of. Infinity Ward itself is still a team and Activision still owns it as well as the rights to MW3. Respawn could in no way make an MW game. Ever.

The Stealth Clown speaks again!

I really hope 402 comes up with more unintentionally hilarious quips this year.

You are also going to climb a hill in one mission, have a change of perspective, then fight down the hill again.

Edit: After reading, it appears this is the case indeed.

Maybe I should get it. It'd be the first CoD game I bought since Cod4, and it's been awhile since that.

Sigh. Yes, there was. But it was multiplayer only. You couldn't turn it off in the singleplayer or in zombies. So the game was closer to not having an option in my book.

I'm really hoping the hype doesn't take hold of me this time. I swear that's 90% of the reason I've been getting these damn things. I'd hate to have another Black O...I'm sorry, what gun was that? They did what with the bullets? Explosions you say?

At this point, all I care about in these modern combat games is weapon customization DONE CORRECTLY. Changing the color of your scope lens is not weapon customization. More game changing attachments too, like flashlights and PEQ-15s, short barrels and flash hiders. I want 5 attachments: EOTech, flip-to-side magnifier, flash hider, PEQ, and a fore grip. IW should just go all out with it.
