No surprise there:
1) I'm not of the opinion MK9 had a good story, not quite sure where you're coming from with that.
2) It's a fighting game. Story's not even expected
3) The opening cinematic told you all you needed to know about the quality of the story. I was watching it and waiting for things to somehow start getting better, but it was the most dull and unimpressive thing about the game. Or even most games (that I take interest in), possibly all of them
That said, the game seems fun, I'm getting it on Friday (EU release). Played the demo and it plays well. I'm mostly sad about the no tag teams (2vs2)... I'm not sure why or how they got to avoiding it, seeing as MK9 had it and it makes even more sense in this universe than over there for heroes and even villains to work with each other. More importantly though, I'm sad that now every time more than one friend comes around, we likely won't be giving it much time but will instead keep playing MK9 as it sucks to wait around forever to play when you can play 2vs2.
And even when just one friend's over, we like to team up and play the tag ladder. Sure, there's stuff to love about versus, but working together is something I really love in games and my mate and me made quite a game of playing the tag ladder, it's the most fun I've had multiplayer gaming in ages.
Other than that though, the game's pretty solid. It felt a little weird coming from MK9 (I don't play other fighting games), but you get used to it and the combat flows well, it's just a bit different. Only complaint on gameplay I have is Doomsday and wake-up attacks in general on Very Hard, but I got a feeling that'll get sorted and it might just be a difference in gameplay (and my complete inaptitude at directional blocking)
