Saren was too easy in Mass Effect. I have only fought him on normal mode though.

Genereal Ramm on insane mode took me, literally, hundreds of attempts.

343 Guilty Spark in Halo 3 was absurdly easy... though I don't think he was intended to actually be a boss fight, more of a fan-service thing for those hungering to put a hole in him for the previous seven years.

I'll agree on General RAAM. Bastard.

-- Steve

PS: I sorta cheated on the Saren fight:
I used my absurdly-high Charm stat and convinced him to shoot himself rather than fight for Sovereign... thereby skipping half the fight. Sadly, I still had to fight his cyber-remnant.

Bosses from this gen tend to be pretty easy. The ones already mentioned are good examples.

Nobody ever considers racing games when topics like this come up. Some of the most infuriatingly tough opponents I've ever encountered in gaming were muderous-AI-equipped drivers in McLaren F1s, etc. They don't really constitute "bosses" in the true sense of the term, but stil...

The later floors of the TOLS in SCIV are very nasty and a firm rebuttal to anyone who claims the game's SP options are a joke.

If you really want to meet some tough bosses though, replay some old FPSs from the 90s. It seems all of the bosses, save those of Duke Nukem 3D, were puzzle bosses who needed to be beaten by oblique means. Anyone remember El Oscuro, The Nihilanth, The Shub Niggurath, The Icon of Sin?

The Leach Man on Resident Evil: Outbreak. All you do is put something on the ground and push a button... assuming that you know where the button is! BUM BUM BUM! *Dr. Evil face*

Hard... Ovan from '.hack//GU .vol3' I grinded enough to be able to take on the final boss and this guy still managed to wipe my face all over stuff.
Ok, so he starts out with high armor. Next since hes a boss the most damage you'll be able to do to him is about 5, out of a 6.7k health pool because the damage scaling system in .hack is broken. Next he does freaking unfair damage, 1.2 damage in 6 seconds? Ouch.
Then he summons his neighbors which do everything you don't want them to do. One casts a cock block shield over Ovan, another casts a spell doing 600 damage constantly, my 3k health pool is offended. The last is something that spams heals on Ovan... god damn you. Not to mention that these things are basically tiny rubber balls bouncing back and forth the length of the stage making them a pain in the ass to actually do damage to them. The only way to deal with them is to use your avatar awakenings whenever Ovan summons them. The problem with that being that you have to recharge your awakening meter by beating up Ovan... which is made neigh impossible by the shield bots.
So while your gradually chipping away at his huge health pool and running around playing whack-a-mole with the cockblock-bots Ovan will occasionally get bored and use start attacking you. He has two attacks, one which basically says 'screw you' and will kill your character unless your at absolutely full health and then when he finishes that pray that there isn't an attack bot nearby cause then they will all zerg you without mercy. His next attack is a 180 degrees beam spam, just have a revive potion ready cause your AI partners will die to this. Also as a soft enrage he starts spam summoning the bots in your face so that they manage to do their thing once and then leave, then come back 2 seconds later.

TL;DR Ovan is basically everything that a boss can do to make itself cheap rolled into one.

And after my tirade about that stuff, in Army of Two, Phillip Clyde didn't even finish telling us what he wanted for Christmas. I had a decked out stinger rocked launcher and as soon as we walk up to the balcony parallel his balcony I fired it off and it killed him in one shot. /golfclap.

Yup, I had to do multiple tries, to pass him :p

Also, most of RE4 bosses were pretty tough, considering lack of ammunition.

Abyssion in Tales of Symphonia wasn't too hard once you reached about level 70 but the fact that it took half an hour to win means I'll give him a mention.

Alma, Ninja Gaiden especially her awakened form. God the second fight was such a PITA becausse you had to flyingg swallow a specific part of her body to open her up to attack. Hell most of the bosses in Ninja Gaiden were relatively hard even when you knew how to play and what to do.

Shub... I just looked that one up and apparently he was originally created by H.P. Lovecraft - who was racist. Somehow that name seems incredibly wrong now...

Everything in Armored Core is ridiculously hard and the first boss will make you want to kill yourself.

Oh yeah, and the last Collossus in SOTC - seriuosly what the hell was that?!

Emperor Ing from Metroid Prime 2 just kicked my ass over and over again. I guess that was why the bosses of MP3 were much easier. I actually died the first couple of times on the last boss because I was thinking too much and expecting the fight to be complicated. Finally, I realized that all you need to do is pretty much stand there and unload on it. Fun game though.

To be fair, back in Lovecraft's day, wasn't everyone racist, pretty much?

I remember Patton Oswalt, a stand up, commenting on going to the cinema to see an old western, and getting mad as hell at this group behind him making comments like 'oh yea, I see, leave the woman to clear the table and clean up' and 'oh look how they're treating the native americans', he then goes to say that back then, if it wasnt for the big violent racists shooting everyone, we wouldn't be here.

Sure it's a dodgy view, but it's kinda hard to blame Lovecraft for racism when the only black people most englishmen ever saw in that age were slaves. No I'm not defending current racism, but when you don't even know there's such a thing and there's no concept that other people might be equal, its tough to call him out, unless everyone before about 1960 gets the same treatment. (Note I'm not basing the date or anything else on facts, but just opinions that I've clearly pulled out of my ass, that should save some time.) Lovecraft probably kicked a puppy purely for laughs once, too.

No,no, it wasnt good or right, but its was how it was, and it's not now, fortunately.

Anyways, sorry for derailing the topic, but I'll throw in 'all badly designed fighting games'.

Any of those where the boss could kill you with unblockable, instant, or generally stupid attacks with one or 2 hits, or had recharging health, or could teleport, or had a reach that four times the length of his arms, or anything else that was plain cheating instead of just making him a good fight. (MK, I'm looking at you and all your spawn).

Lovecraft died in 1937 and was an American. Hate to wik-roll you, but: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H._P._Lovecraft

Easy: That last boss in Bioshock, I have never died against him, and i played on hard, because i am hardcore and that is how i roll

Hard: Adam the clown in Dead Rising, that ***** would never die, and when i was close to killing him then i would get a bit to optimistic and do something stupid and die...

Easy: The second time you fight Saren on Mass Effect, since you can make him kill himself with your talking skills. ^_^
Hard: I know it's not REALLY a boss fight, but the final part of the sniper level in Call of Duty 4 on Veteran... GOD DAMN that huge wave of enemies is so annoyingly difficult...
Although for a proper boss, I'd say the plant boss on House of the Dead 3... The weakpoints are impossibly to hit using the gun. I have to use a mouse on the PC version to be able to hit him.

I kinda gotta agree with you there... On both of them
Good to know that your character is so boring to talk to that he would rather kill himself than fight you

My bad, (very much so as I played 'Cthulhu' for about 4 years!) I fell victim to my own country's stereotype that everyone white before about 1920 spoke like Mr Darcy in Pride and Prejudice, swap englishman for 'posh white guy'. However, I don't think it detracts too much from my point.

And again, Mortal Kombat style 'Cheaty' bosses bug the hell out of me, any arcade style boss designed purely to eat your quarters. (there I go mixing my US/UK stuff :D)

Also any boss that pulls something unavoidable out of its ass so you're guaranteed to die at least once.
