During the 21st century, human technology hit many major breakthroughs, though none were as important as FTL ( Faster than light travel). With this new find, our planet took several major leaps in technological advances. Satalites were able to be sent further into space. Humans could now search for other planets to colonise. a century's worth of change flew through the eyes of the world in all but a decade. The construction of hover cars and other sci-fi dreams were made possible by the new technology.
After many more years, the humans had managed to create the first interstellar spaceshuttle. "HMS intrepid". The ship was launched from Londons custom built spaceport, staying in orbit until all systems had been checked through. The crew of the ship was made up of leading scienists and other important figure heads. Whilst leaving few spaces open for the public and other volunteers. The ship also had it's own security, to protect the valuable cargo of Earths brighest minds.
The ship was launched in the first few months of 2087. The ship was escorted past our solar system, dwarfing the other vessels. At over 2 miles long it was the largest ship in existence. As it passed the escorts range, it fired up the FTL drives, launching itself into the cold dark depths of space. As the months passed, constant streams of data was sent back to the observers at Earth. Gaining information on materials and planets in a bid to find other ways of fueling the now bustling industry.
Years went by, with the ship still speeding through space in FTL. Some of the crew had fellen sick, reasons were given due to time being unstable in FTL. More and more of the crew were falling ill, this data was constantly sent back. Allowing researchers back at Earth to continue to develop more effective means of FTL travel. Many more months went past, contact with the ship was becoming less and less frequent. Until it stopped completely. Mission controllers at Earth tried for months to get a message out, to no avail. Hope was regained when a messaage was finnaly recieved, though it soon disappeared. The message read:
To EIOC (Earth Interstellar Observation and communication group) - Ship lost. 98% crew dead. sentient life found. Hostile. transformations. help.
That was the last they ever heard from the HMS Intrepid.

Weapons technology advanced ten-fold with the arrival of new more efficient ways of producing lethal killing machines. Military standard hardware evolved from simple and crude ballistics to Laser technology; precise and accurate. Firing at the speed of light, a shot will hit at where the blast is shot. Burning at over twice the heat of the sun, the laser will melt through the toughest of metals with ease. Such hardware is restricted to military personnel.
Many security firms use less than lethal weaponry. the most common, being the Xe-R2 Laspistol. With a range of settings, from stun to lethal. The small, lightweight pistol is used by police forces around the world. noted for being durable this stands as the most used weapon around the world.
During the time in which humanity was experimenting with weapon technologies, cruder weapons evolved. One of which is the Boltblaster. Firing a solid lump of heated metal at over 3,000 FPS, this weapons was designed to kill or maim. Capable of removing limbs and serious 3rd degree burns when the round hits.
There have been too many varieties of weapon to list and many of the older and primitive ballistic weapons are still intact and circulating many antique markets.
In terms of medical advances, humanity excelled greatly with the experimentation of cybernetics, replacing limbs and organs with fully functioning cybernetic implants. the most common of which being optical. With built in settings for night sight and range finding, these were popular with military personnel. The only produced cybernetic limbs so far have been limited to arms and legs, with medical experts unwilling to experiment with any other regions of the body.
Armour advances have been slow, though some breakthroughs have been made. the most important being the TQ450 battlesuit. intended for frontline infantry, the battlesuit incorporates a lightweight plate of hardened A-class titanium armour, Capable of withstand blasts from the latest lasrifles. It disperses heat as to ensure that the devastating effect of the heat is not passed onto the wearer. All joints are covered by a lightwieght polymer suit, with gel layers to spread heat out and allow maximum manoeuvrability .
The police and security teams have taken a different model of the battlesuit, it features the same vest only made with C-class titanium armour. while designed to cope with knifes and stun blasts, it stands no chance at protection from laser weaponry. The wearer is required to wear fatigues underneath as the armour only protects the torso, though fitted leg guards are available.

Earth is very different from what we know currently. The future has arrived, what we dreamed of as children is now a reality. We gaze from our windows into a realm of peace and prosperity. Or atleast some do. For life stays the same. The rich get richer and the poor, well they get poorer. The sleek white cities that line the horizon, filled with glowing lights. The gentle hum of cars as they float by.
Astronauts uncovered a sealed chamber on Mars. Dating over a millennia old. Inside was a sight never before seen. A massive construct, machinery and miles of tunnels. Years went by as we slowly uncovered the facility. At last we found it. A semi-functioning drive-core. Centuries ahead of our best technology, scientists were baffled. On the return journey from Mars, over the months it took to return, they dismantled it, studied it in an attempt to understand how it worked. After nearly a year of experiments we finally managed it. We produced a means of Faster than light travel.
For once, Earth came together. Humanity was acting for a singular cause. Years passed as ships were made. Small transport ships, runners. Things to experiment and refine the technology on. As these ships showed progress bigger vessels were worked upon, venturing to the very edge of our solar system, able to study and gather new resources from our planets. Jupiter was a key target, it's hydrogen and helium being mined and refined. Slowly the edges of our solar system were not enough.
A ship was constructed, along with a crew of officials and other, expendable, subjects this ship was launched under international secrecy. It begun well, regular reports came back and the experiment was well under way when all communication stopped. The Earth Interstellar Observation and communication group attempted to contact them, but to no avail. They reported back to the United Nations Space Exploration committee and were given the go ahead to create a larger vessel. The HMS Intrepid.
After Inter-solar-system flights were underway The government needed a universal front for space. NASA was american, RFSA was Russian. They needed something to bring everyone together. Thus, The United Nations Space Exploration committee was brought into being. heading the new World space program, they took over from individual countries and worked as one.

The HMS Intrepid is a 2 mile long, cruise ship. It is designed in the usual fashion of long with compartmentalised sections. The bridge is on the front centre deck, directly after this are the medical and science bays. After these sections the ship breaks down into the housing zones. With rec-rooms and small, apartment like rooms. Running the length of the ship are access tunnels and maintenance walk ways, these lead to the engine room. The tunnels are low-light, wind tunnels, where much of the air conditioning is cycled through. The Engine bay is a large, open room filled with machinery and open fusion reactors.
The crew rooms are kept just behind the bridge, though only accessible through the maintenance tunnels. These rooms are reinforced with plate titanium, making them the sturdiest part of the ship.
Cryo-chambers are kept within the medical bay. Featured in groups of 10, most are kept to specific details of the crew and are on cycle, waking crewman as they are needed. The Cry-wake process is disorientating. The brain is technically dead, frozen and shut down to prevent the electrical pulse from keeping you concious. This means you don not dream in cryo-sleep. Waking up is especially painful, as your body is checking all the vital functions. Side-effects of Cryo-sleep are vomiting, temporary blindness and problems with balance.

You are a member of the HMS Interpids crew. One of the few survivors. oblivious to the horrors, safe in the confines of your Cryo unit.
You have a choice of roles: from security guard, to engineer to anything your mind can think of. I'll let you be creative with it. Aslong as you can justify it. The same goes for weapons. I'm not going to restrict you, but I'd like a description of it and for it to be logical for your role. Think dead space, engineers might have close range bolt cutters ( Gauss pistol anyone? )
You are human. You cannont be an alien or any other form of life. Just wanted to get that set down now.
As you can see, this is going to be a survival horror RP. As such, I'm looking for a good level of writing skills and very descriptive posts. I'm not saying a gazzilion paragraphs. Just that when needed you can write well.
