Don't want to sound like a blithering technophobe, but how can you get a song that I downloaded onto my IPod shuffle (A bit archaic, but I can't afford the Touch) to play on my IPod instead of through Windows Media Player? If it helps, I got it from Uploading.com.

So, the song is on your iPod, and you want us to help you make it play... On your iPod.

I are confused.

When the IPod was in the USB port, I saved the song I downloaded into the folder representing the IPod. I can only listen to the song with Media Player, and it doesn't show up on my IPod itself anywhere. And if I could get iTunes, I would, but for whatever reason it will not download to my computer. I have no clue why.

I'd also suggest iTunes, but surely you'd have used that to get the music onto your iPod in the first place? I'm also confused by the fact that the song you want to play on your iPod is already on there...

EDIT: Read your post. Are there subfolders in the iPod folder you copied the song to?

Yes, but I only have Calendars, Recordings, Notes and Alarms.

Apple is a bit anal about their program. If it doesn't work through iTunes, it doesn't work at all (unless you've got profound knowledge of computers).
Even then it needs itunes to authorise it, unless you want to fuck around for an hour in there DRM which is nigh impossible on the touch. Stick it in itunes, then use Winamp with ml_ipod. Sorted.

Sorry I should also answer this. It has to be put into it by iTunes, Well considering you didn't know this advance methods are pointless to explain. And also need iTunes anyway. Install itunes. are you having trouble with the install or the download? If your running vista and it's the install, right click admin run.

Ah, not much help there then. Unfortunately I think iTunes is pretty much your only option, so I'd try to work out how to get that installed first. This is why I hate thrice-cursed iPods, they pretty much rely on iTunes.

Yeah, I think I'd rather crawl around in my computer than my iPod. I could probably get iTunes working given enough time. Thanks.

Well that because your not showing hidden files, but I say it again that is too complicated, and also due to the ipod coding it in some form I doubt you can manually add it. If you want to try it I could help you out if you like.

EDIT: If this thread dies, feel free to PM me and I will help as much as I can. The shuffle should use the same file structure as the classic. And it can't be harder than the touch anyway.

Simply copying the file into the iPod's folders probably won't work. That's just using your iPod as if it was a Flash Drive.

You need iTunes to "synch" the music with your iPod. However, there may be a way to use Media Player instead. Have you tried plugging your iPod in with Media Player open? I'm not sure what that would do, but it may offer to synch to your iPod.

Basically, if you want to use a brand iPod, you really should be using the iTunes software. They're more or less designed to work together and not with anything else.
