IQ Tests

Have you ever taken an IQ test? If so where do you go to take one usually and what is your IQ?

I have never taken one but I really would like to just to know. However I have no idea where one would go to do this.

I figure they're all bullcrap, testing a very specific skill set. Not having this skill set (non-verbal reasoning/mathematical ability, for the most part) doesn't make you stupid!

Apperantly I have an IQ of 142.

Which apperantly counts as gifted.

Go figure.

142 in a real iq test is above average not gifted. 160+ is gifted

Gifted in the sense that it's above average, not gifted in the way your refering too.

I propose we create a series of tests to determine a person's (arbitrarily quantified) Validation Quotient and then people who take their VQ seriously can be beaten to death with bricks. Okay, so we don't tell them about the bricks part. It would spoil the surprise, anyway.

I took one once, it was meant to be for people over 18, I was 14, but it was the best I could find.

I got 120-something.

I've taken a few of the random Internet IQ tests and have always come out slightly above average. Of course they were all internet tests so I doubt their credibility on the whole.

All they do is tell you how good you are at taking IQ tests. That's it.

So true. On various ones I've recieved scores of 146, 134 and 129 - substantially above average. While I am in top maths, chemistry and history classes (still in school) I am hopeless at languages and physics constantly has me in a muddle. I have a friend with a supposed IQ of 89, and yet he's in top of all but biology and history. Taking IQ tests is just another skill, and (in my experience at least) doesn't really reflect your aptitude at other skills.

I took the Stanford-Binet once, in fifth grade. They were trying to put me in a special needs class. I scored a 142. Take from that what you will.

I think that the "special needs" class you were put into doesn't mean retarded kids, but like gifted kids.

No, they were trying to put me in a special needs class. I was doing below average in most of my classes, although that was more because my parents were in the middle of a divorce, my grandmother was physichally and emotionally abusing me, my teachers treated me like crap (My P.E. teacher punched me more than once), my schoolmates treated me like crap, too, and the meds the school was making me take were seriously fucking me up.

And no one but my father believed it. They wanted to make me take it again, buy father called bullshit and told them to fuck themselves. I'm told that he said it quite literally.

Long story short, if I meant "Gifted", I would have said "Gifted". My childhood was not a happy one.

...I'm sorry if I come off as beligerent. I do apreciate your optimism, but I always say what I mean.

I got 147 on an official mensa one ... I was about 8 at the time ...

Apparently that puts me in the top 1% of the population. Go figure.

I ended up somewhere around 130 on the test, but I personally don't buy them; too unreliable in my honest opinion.
