Actual (as in, psychologist-administered) IQ tests do tend to predict academic performance, but are not correlated with lifetime career success.

138, but I was like 5 at the time, so it doesn't really count (Weschler Intelligence Scale for Children, if you're interested).
Yeah I was tested when I was 8. I'd been distrupting class, quite a lot, and my school organized for a whole bunch of tests for me, IQ, hearing, psychological, and some I have forgotten. The test I did was seriously skewed to reading comprehension, I remember that. Quite a bit of it had to do with language and I had been reading at an advanced level since pre-school because my E.S.L. grandmother who looked after me a lot had trouble reading my stories to me. I just learned to read early instead. My hearing was fine, I didn't want to set cats on fire, turns out I was disruptive because I was bored, so I ended up tutoring some of my classmates. I got 147 on the IQ test, but I doubt I'd get that now.

IQ tests are pretty much bunkum IMHO.

There is no true method to measure overall 'intelligence', as there are too many 'x' factors to consider, it remains practically impossible. There is too much variety in what could be constituted as a form of intelligence, that testing for all of them and not neglecting any single form would immensely difficult. Each person may be a genius in one way, their own way, or completely deficient in another. In the end, which form is considered more or most important will always depend on the person and their opinion.

As it stands now, IQ tests seem to be little more than another method for people to earn personal status, rather than giving a clear indication of how powerful one's mind is.

Most of the ones you find on the internet aren't very trustworthy. If you want a good one, you end up paying for it.

I had to take one, because I was being tested if I was dyslectic, wich I turned out to be.
and my iq is 146.
and since this was not on the internet, but in a real (sorry for a better word,) rechearch centre, I think it would be fairly trustworthy.

There are so many types of ways to be intelligent..

Some are artistically intelligent, some are mathematically enclined, some know everything there is to know bout cars.. One test can never cover all that unless it is extremely flocking large..

So imo IQ test are in most cases just bullshit.. Its like putting a score on a persons brain when you have only tested 2% of it..

national average is 101, but they are not genarally considered and accurate measure of intelligence, people like picasso and van gogh would have a very low IQ.

God I hope this doesn't turn into another IQ pissing match.
This is the escapist, every thread turns into an 'I'm better than you' pissing match. You don't need a high IQ to work that out!

Yes, I took one during Junior High School and I took one that was administered by a neropsychologist at her office. I scored in the mid-120s on the test but I have taken less offical tests where I scored mid-130s.

Really, IQ tests just measure your ability to take tests. Intelligence cannot be Reified. (How do you spell the past tense of Reification exactly?)

Believing in a random IQ test's result from the internet automatically reduces your actual IQ value by 50%

I only did one test , I got about 156 . I think they're overrated, but still, they do say at least something about ourselves.

There used to be national IQ tests on TV (in the UK and the Netherlands at least). I got in the high 120s on the English one and low 130s on the Dutch, which is strange as English is my first language.

I took an IQ test when I was about 6, and got 147. I took one a few years back, but I didn't get the results back. Also, the first one was done by a qualified professional (from MENSA, I think) and the other one was just done in school, so I'm not sure about the reliability of that one.

Obviously I'm not going to say IQ tests are crap, because I'm rather proud of my score.

For any that are interested in what their score means:

IQ tests are meant to be designed so that a score of 100 is always average, with a standard deviation of 15 (I think). What this essentially means is if you have an IQ of 115 or more you are in the top 17.5%, 130 or more you're in the top 2.5% and 145 or more you're in the top 0.5% (roughly, at any rate). This is the same for below the average as well, so 85 and you're in the bottom 17.5% etc etc etc.

However, I'm not sure if internet IQ tests will be configured to these results - it's probably unlikely.

OT: I've never taken an IQ test, as I have never really seen the point - it tells you your intelligence in relation to everyone else, but this is something that (in a school environment, at any rate) is fairly easy to work out :p

I've never taken one myself, though it seems the 2% smartest people on earth are concentrated where ever there is a thread asking for IQ's.
Those tests have a practical usage though - apparently, if you have one that qualifies you as 'gifted' e.g 130+, and pester your teachers enough, they let you skip years of school in Germany (or so my boyfriend claims, anyway)

I remember doing the tv ones years ago here in britain. The 2nd made me realise it was all a bunch of crap. Why? Because one section asked you to look at a series of distorted pictures of celebrities and work out which celebrities they were. This meant you had to recognise who these people were, which is not testing your intelligence at all if you simply don't know who these people are.

Also the last question was a series of upsidedown faces, with one of the mouths on one face turned upsidedown again. You were supposed to look at the faces and figure out which face had something wrong with it. I immediately knew what it was they were trying to get at and simply turned my head to the side so I could pick it out. Literally anyone could get that question right, it's not testing intelligence at all, anyone who has seen that illusion before knows what it's about and figure it out.

I still somehow scored higher on this one than the "easier" one from the previous year though.

Apperantly I have an IQ of 142.

Which apperantly counts as gifted.

Go figure.
142 in a real iq test is above average not gifted. 160+ is gifted

Yep, I've taken several (4 or 5), all of them yielding different results (varying from 98 to 130-something). I do believe they are bullshit.

IQ tests arent great at telling you your maximum degree of intelligence, but they work better if you take a real one other than one on the internet.I took one at a learning assessment centre when I was yougner because I have ADHD (and the entire world thinks that's something you "suffer" from and needs to be fixed). Tere was a different scale that was used a long time ago, but on th scale wher 140 points is genius, I got 132. My brother got 136.

This is 100% true. IQ tests certainly do not measure intelligence and since you can get very different results off many different tests, they are also extremely unreliable.

There are also tricks that can gain you more marks, proving again that IQ tests are unreliable.
