Is a PS2 good now?

I never had the chance to play my own PS2 and can get one for around £37(with controller and leads) I was wondering,do they still produce good games for the ps2?Is there a range of good games for the console? Also are the games cheap because of its "oldness" or because they suck. I ask you all because i am an absolute noob plus i dont have much money to buy a 360/ps3. thanks.

I think they are cheap now, but I'm not sure on the price. Also, yes, there is a huge range of good games to play on the PS2, but I'm too tired at the moment to name them.

And I guess because they are old..but that doesn't guarantee that you will like them there is always shit.

There's nothing wrong with getting a PS2 even now. The games are cheap not because they suck, but because they don't have shiny glittering graphics compared to 360 and PS3. As far as I'm concerned there are hardly any games still being made (if any) for the PS2, but the range of good games is in my opinion unmatched to this date. No matter what genre you're into, you'll get many good games.

So yeah, I'd go buy it, if I didn't have one already.

The ps2 has heaps of games that are great for it, there only cheap because its old.

37 is an awsome if its in good condition, and there arent many new ps2 games but the PS2 has the best catalogue of the previous generations, tons and tons and tons of great games for lovers of any genre.

And this is coming from a PC games btw, so Im not baised.

I stand by my opinion that the PS2 is one of the best consoles ever made.

Plenty of games to be had, and all at a grossly cheap price, considering the console's age.

EH.... this is a tough one....

There aren't many possibilities for new games on the PS2... when new consoles are released, that's pretty much the reality of things.

If you can get a cheap PS2... there are some good game you can play.... I haven't experienced a LOT... but the titles I've played that you may want to check out:

- Devil May Cry
- Devil May Cry 3 (#2 was garbage, and not a worthy sequel at all... you can skip that)
- Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain/ Soul Reaver (PS1 games, but still worthy of playing on a PS2.. great story)
- Blood Omen 2/ Soul Reaver 2/ Legacy of Kain: Defiance (all great PS2 games, and great sequels)
- The Onimusha Series
- The Resident Evil Series (except 5 of course, for which you will need a new console.. and 0/the REmake, for which you will need a Gamecube or a Wii)
- Contra: Shattered Soldier

.... wow, I hadn't realized how rarely I had used my PS2.... still, these are good titles, and I enjoyed owning my PS2 for getting to play them.

£37 is a great price for a PS2, if only because the PS2 was such a great console and, while there's not really going to be new games for it, the superb back catalogue of games for it should more than make up for it, no matter what type of games you like.

Buy it, start working through the PS2's enormous back catalogue.

There's (arguably) more great titles on that console than any other in history, the new games coming out for it now are mostly JRPG's and sports games but there's enough already there to keep you going for years.

The only genre I'd say it's a bit short on are FPS's, but then it does have Timesplitters so all is forgiven.

I only own a PS2 and still play it until now. With the MASSIVE library of games already available and the occasionally produced games(jak 4 and atlus games), yea it's still good. Besides I find most of the next gen games uninteresting anyway. Some games to check out

At that price, it's almost a steal for access to one of the greatest, if not the greatest, game library still available. TimeSplitters, Kingdom Hearts (if you're into that kind of thing), Shadow of the Colossus, Dark Cloud, GTA 3/San Andrea/Vice City, God of War, Jak and Daxter, the original Guitar Heros, Arc the Lad, not to mention the fact that the PS1 library is available to you, as well, since the PS2 was actually backwards compatible.

great games are a plenty for the ps2 , and since ps3 has limited backwards compatibility keep your ps2 when ya get a ps3

The PS2 has some fun games on it, I don't use mine much anymore though aside from playing old Spyro games and Persona 4, though.

Shadow of the Colossus
Iko
God of War
God of War 2
GTA San Andreas, Vice City, and 3
Resident Evil 4
Bully

SO yes, get one.

Our doctor has a PS2 in his waiting room and while I think it's a fantastic passe-temps I wouldn't get one myself personally, I'd rather go for a handheld. But as many people stated before: there are plenty of great games for it and they're pretty cheap see feel free.
