Is an Apocalypse Now Game in the Works?

I just don't see how a game of the film could happen. Not at one point of the film did I think "This would make a great game!"

Maybe they could turn it into a surfing simulator? Avoid bullets and mortar fire while you rack up a crazy combo? WHEN I SAY IT'S SAFE TO SURF. IT'S SAFE TO SURF!

Oh please no. Apocalypse Now is my Star Wars. I just know if turned into a game the developer will cock it up and make it into some gung ho shooter. That being said the Heavy Rain idea of an earlier poster might be interesting. How else could you include stuff like the USO show, or the conversations with Kurtz, or most of the trip up the river!

Do not make it[/HEADING]

That is all. Please do not ruin a classic, 100% brilliant film with this bullcrap

Well, the Platoon game was bloody atrocious, but you never know, there might be a tiny chance that this could work. Perhaps, as you said, a RPG type game. Still, I actually think a Heart Of Darkness game would work much better, I'd love to see a game set in darkest Africa during the 19th century, it could be brilliant.

I'll keep an eye out for this, but I won't be holding out much hope. Apocalypse Now! just doesn't seem like a 'game movie' if you know what I mean. It's too cerebral.

[sub]Now, to register that Heart Of Darkness idea...[/sub]
I'd love to see a Heart of Darkness game :D

Is it bad that my first thought was "original or redux"?
Yes. Redux is clearly superior, except for that weird scene on the French plantation... :p
I have to disagree. The original is a well paced psychological war movie. The redux added in nothing that really improved the film, with the exception of the later scene with the Playboy bunnies. The part where they're hiding from the helicopter just made Kilgore's character seem incompetent, and the French plantation completely killed the pacing of the second half.

My joke's over there... dying... :(

There is another critical flaw with the Redux cut. It's longer, by half an hour (IIRC). This might seem like a nitpick, but given that the original running time was over three hours, it becomes a serious issue.

The Redux does give the characters more material and lets them flesh out a bit more, but that's about the only thing the film has going for it.

I watched a snail crawl along the edge of a straight razor.
That's my dream; that's my nightmare.
Crawling, slithering, along the edge of a straight razor... and surviving.
