Is anyone here going to get an Xbox Series X?

I've talked with my brother earlier i on Saturday, and he does not want a Series X either. He has his One X and he got a gaming laptop 3 months ago. I don't blame him.
As gaming PCs become easier and easier to get i wonder how much the decision to put all exclusives on pc will affect people actually buying a console.

I have a friend who barely games who got himself a pretty nice gaming computer. And all he wanted to do was play fps games.

In an example of the disconnect between the cynical attitude of these forums and the real world...I tried to pre-order one today and they're totally sold out. Most wouldn't comment on when the second shipment would be available, one retailer even suggested we wouldn't see a second round this year in my region.

That's entirely unsurprising considering there's parts and production shortages for basically all electronics right now.

I plan to get... well... almost everything! But Xbox Series X is at the top of my list. Microsoft looks to be intent on creating a great ecosphere on which you can game on a number of devices. They're buying up a ton of developers. I think Gen 9 will be very different than 8.

I've got a PC that should be perfectly capable of playing most next gen games just fine, so no.

I keep thinking that I might want a VR headset, but I just can't justify the cost for something I'll probably use for a few weeks and then put it on my desk to gather dust.

Honestly, if in maybe one or two years, if the series X proves itself, I may consider getting it over the PS5, despite being a SonyPony4Lyfe.

In one or two years, I'm supposed to have be employed, so the Game Pass or whatever its called is very appealing. I will miss though all the excellent exclusives Sony has. The only Xbox exclusive that has ever even slightly appealed to me was Halo, and when I actually got to play it, it wasn't very fun. Even the Bethesda acquisition doesn't mean much to me personally. The last game of theirs I touched was I think the Wolfenstein reboot.

Although I suppose it would really depend on how well my future job pays, because if I'm lucky enough I'm planning to go straight for a PC.

Get the PC and later on the PS5 will be cheaper and with a bunch of discounted games. Best of both worlds.

I am currently saving up for a PC, but Jesus I greatly underestimated how much more the initial investment for a PC is than a console. A console feels like the kind of thing you could just pick up on a whim, but a PC you need to plan for.

Is the Game Pass for PC also? That would immediately erase any interest I have in an Xbox.

Yeah, the entry cost is pretty steep, but on the plus side buying games can be a good deal cheaper, so in the longer term it evens out, if you play your cards right. I would describe pc gaming as requiring much more involvement than consoles in general (tho it's become far, far more user friendly than it used to be), but when you know what you're doing, the pay-off is worth it.

But you can buy a console and normal PC for the price of a gaming PC. A Ryzen APU will do everything 99.9% of people need their computers to do and even play games somewhat decently. I bought a laptop with a Ryzen 5 mobile APU in it for $400 this year (I also upgraded my desktop to a Ryzen 5 APU), that does everything most people need and it even has a screen obviously.

You can sell games on console though. I really don't get the price argument that PC games are cheaper. My current eBay auction for Ghost of Tsushima is at $37 and it ends tonight.

This is true. Is it supposed to be a gotcha moment or something? Because this is not a revelation to anyone with a basic grasp of the technology or mathematics.

Some people use the argument that a gaming PC is more than a luxury expensive because it does other things. I wasn't sure if you were going for that or not. It's just like the games are cheaper on PC argument when I just sold Ghost of Tsushima for $50 tonight.

This is because for some reason the notion persists that a gaming PC must cost a lot of money. They don't. They're still expensive compared to a console and require some additional expertise yes, but the trade offs are worth it.

I'd say that were true for probably every generation prior to this coming gen. But now, you just can't get an equivalent gaming PC in performance specs near the price of the next-gen consoles. Budget video cards are basically $200 by themselves. Heck, I'd just need a video card and new power supply to get my desktop up to the performance of PS5/XboX and it'll probably cost more than the console itself to get there and I got all the other parts obviously. And with like every traditional PC-only game making their way to consoles and console games being on PC (shared architecture), the actual platform matters less than it's ever mattered. A game like say Wasteland 3 would never be on a console prior to PS4/Xbone gen and now it's like I'll probably get it on PS4 just cuz I can sell it when I'm done with it.
