Ironically (and in a dark way) it's more expensive to taxpayers for someone to die via the death penalty (due to legal matters, mostly), than for someone to off themselves.

As I said in my post that you quoted, the UK was more able to make progress on social issues like this in the '60s because there wasn't a great evangelical movement then. Of course if organisations like 'Care Not Killing' (the most ironic name ever) had their way then suicide on its own would still be illegal, as would abortion, homosexuality, etc...

Moral arguments aside. Why waste money on prosecuting people who already want to die?

More importantly, what are the chances I'm gonna get 10% of what the government saves if they take this law off the books?
