The way i see it, its wrong to do in any way apart from pure survival and even thats stretching it. For example, if you're stranded in a boat and your friends or crew have died and you have no food, you'd need to eat them to survive.
If you absolutely need to in order to survive, it's better than dying, and I'm sure your buddy would rather you use him than follow his fate.
The reason it's wrong though is that people couldn't function in a society where cannibalism is considered 'right'. aside from various health issues already stated it would be far too easy to cross the line from eating dead, which is not technically wrong in a moral way, to eating the seemingly dead/ nearly dead/ doomed to die/ person who looks appetizing when you are hungry, things would run amok and it just wouldn't work.

I don't believe cannibalism to be wrong.

Hell, if I ever get the chance to try human, it's going down the hatch.

I'm willing to be the human body has a ton of toxins in it from our unnatural diets. I wouldn't recommend consuming tainted flesh.

If you're in a desperate situation and need to feed on "anything" then fine.

If it's a guys funeral and you're going to eat him for the fuck of it then WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU?!

Cannibalism is just like anything else, depending on the circumstances.

This doesn't really need a thread

@ dathwampeer: Hmm...that leads me to think that ANY species is predisposed not to eat their own dead.

Consider cows. sometimes, companies looking to save on feed will process some of their euthanized cattle into feed for the rest of the cattle. The problem is that this 'recycled' feed, called Meat and Bone Meal, is a breeding ground for the...er...is it an amoeba? Anyway, it causes bovine spongiform encephalopathy, or Mad Cow Disease.

More importantly, look at any other species on the planet. Not only do they avoid eating their dead, they avoid getting anywhere near them instinctively. So my answer is no, this is a bad idea. Not morally (I would never try to argue a moral point on the internet) but just from a biology point of view, it's not smart.

I certain life or death situations there is nothing wrong with it. Other than that I'd say just have some pork instead. "Apparently" they taste the same anyway.

this was inspired by that "incest" thread, wasn't it? (not to imply they are similar, but they are both taboos that people NORMALLY don't like to talk about)

Anyway, yes, it is wrong. Not only health wise (yes, it is VERY unhealthy, this is scientifically proven), but because...I mean how would you live with yourself knowing you ate another human being? You just ate someone who once had thoughts, hopes, dreams, a family, and they are now dead and inside of you. If that thought doesn't disgust you there is something mentally wrong, period.

EDIT- people are okay with this? are you fucking serious? Here, read this, all of you, right now.

bit judgmental, aren't we? lol jk

OT idk I've kinda always wondered what ppl tastes like, but it seems kind of icky. also, if they died naturally you probably wouldn't want to eat them. not to mention the health risks (yeah i clicked the link)

While I'm against it purely because it disgusts me but so long as the deceased had no problems with it and none of their relations have qualms with it either, then from a moral standpoint I see no problem.

I don't think there's anything wrong with actually eating human flesh, but there's a hell of a lot wrong with how people would obtain it.

I get the feeling this is related to the "Are cemeteries a waste of space?" thread...

This is leading up to something, and I predict it's zombie apocalypse.

I wouldn't do it, and honestly I'd probably try to discourage someone against it. But I guess there's not a problem with it.

No. They are not using it, nor is the human body sacred in any way. It is going to decompose anyway; why not provide you with energy as well?
