Okay, so I might not be totally clued in to the hive mind on this one, but as I see it, the reason everyone is hyped about Cyberpunk 2077 this E3 is because, and I say this as a long time detractor of the Witcher series, the trailer they showed was really, really good..
I'm also hearing that the gameplay demonstration that they showed to the press was also really, really good.
Yeah, YongYea went bananas for it, saying "If they can actually deliver on what I saw, this makes Deux Ex look like Amateur hour".

I'm cautiously optimistic myself. :)
Deus Ex was amateur hour. It's part of a genre I like to call "Stealth stealth games". Games which pretend to be another genre, but make you too squishy to survive open combat, (Even with the durability upgrades, which got you to where an un-upgraded character should be) and punish you with less rewards and the bad story paths if you don't go stealth. Other notable examples include Dishonored.

So I take you were asleep during the No Man's Sky announcements, weren't you?
Not to mention Aliens: Colonial Marines.
Now that you mention it, Gearbox probably would be who I'd give the nod too.

I was gonna say Rockstar, but thats a little unfair given I've only played GTAs and the first Max Payne way back when.

I'd tentatively throw FROM in the pile too. The Souls series is fine, and they've done well milking the success of it, but most of their other titles are just janky half-playable messes. I kind of eye Shadows Die Twice with some skepticism, because they had to dial back to a very barebones structure for Souls combat to finally churn out something that wasn't a mess control wise (and still had nonsense like the jumping).

Sounds like a bit of a pretentious assumption there, seeing as how even the press hasn't played it yet, and we've only heard a few details about what the gameplay mechanics will involve. The Souls series had very deliberate and methodical controls tied to the physics system, and weren't meant to feel like an action game. I will agree though that the aiming mechanics were akwardly stiff and far less fluid than they should've been, considering how the game encouraged builds around it via hunter bow usage and spells.

Not sure what the "nonsense like the jumping" is getting at either...if they're designing the action to feel more organic this time then jumping would seem to be an essential part of it.

Souls, physics system. LOL. The game where impact is simply an animation cancel (At best, usually its literally no reaction other then their silly crumpled paper stock noise for hits), arrows turn in midair, attacks go through walls, and you literally dodge through physical objects, a physics system. LOL.

The jumping bit was referring to the nonsensical controls for jumping. The Hold sprint, let go of sprint, tap sprint again thing . It only got vaguely better when they made it press L3 while running. Any sense of traction being another physics system they didn't have as you went sliding merrily around and off things.

They're fineish action games, but they're also the barest bones of action games. Whenever they have done more complex stuff (including magic or bows in Souls), From has struggled with janky design, so a healthy skepticism of a game where you're seemingly going to whip around the place on a grapple arm is fairly warranted.

lets discuss
Is it possible that you just don't like western RPGs?

I mean, combat mechanicswise Witcher 3 is not great (no open world game is) but it is still one of the most atmospheric*, well-written and beautiful games ever made.

* -Edit- or "immersive," is that a better word?

It's all a matter of opinion, really.
I really like the Witcher series, and Cyberpunk looks awesome, whereas I can't stand any of Bungie's works, so to me Bungie are the most overrated AAA devs.

RPG in my opinion is gaming worst genre. sure it has 100 hours of quests and such.

but core gameplay mechanics suck especially compare to FPS games. be it fallout, be it mass effect, be it elder scrol or witcher. they all lack good gameplay.

See now, I lost interest in most FPS games a decade ago. Aside from the Far Cry games that actually let my take my time and plan my approach, most shooters, military ones in particular, just feel like bad action films and repetitive gun-porn.

Ah yes, the fun and satisfying combat systems of Kingdom Hearts, Nioh, Batman Arkham, God of War, Dragon's Dogma, Sleeping Dogs, Kingdoms of Amalur, and various Tales of games all pale in comparison to the glorified point and click adventure that is the first person shooter.

only few of these games are RPGs. Im talking about Role playing games which have terrible combat and gamelay mechanics.

and there are only few non FPS games in years that i liked. military shooters do suck. like COD and Battlefield. i agree.

and after E3 3 games excited me most are RAGE2, Doom eternal and Metro Exodus.

but my friend there are many 20 year old witcher kids dont know how legendary original Deus Ex was as they were disappointed by cyberpunk going first person.

cyberpunk 2077 can be best CDPR game ever but it will be extremely overrated because critics and journalist will hype anything CDPR.

Every game is overrated, even OG Deus Ex. Go to RottenTomatoes and look at the best movies of all-time and they aren't even rated nearly as high as Deus Ex (or Witcher 3 or Zelda or GTA) and games have more to excel and fail at than movies. For example, Shawshank's average score is 8.2 vs Deus Ex at a 90/91 (depending on what site you look at).

You should also try more games like how Shadow Tactics is the better stealth game over Hitman.
