Is China Building a Warcraft and Starcraft Theme Park?

Uh...if the park-opening date is correct, or even remotely so, shouldn't someone be able to get some actual photos from the construction site? That's next month! There should be more than concept art available out there. How is it we can find leaked pics of tiny things like the 3DS or the supposed PSP2 but an entire theme park can't be found? That just seems a bit off.

China? Really?

I find it hard to believe that China of all countries would build a shrine to consumerism based on a videogame. Seriously, they would rank just after North Korea on my list of countries most likely to make something like this.

Why not USA or South Korea?

My initial thoughts here is that if this is real it would have been under construction for a while, and I find it hard to believe that Blizzard itself wouldn't have been saying anything about having theme parks under construction. Also given the somewhat touchy relationship between Blizzard and China over things like how much money they can make... I find this questionable.

Of course then again China *IS* a robber economy, and seems to pretty much steal almost everything from someone else, so it's possible that they robbed Blizzard's IPs and Blizzard doesn't want to give them free press by complaining.

I mean, let's be honest, we had that whole thing with China's knockoff Gundam (why they didn't thumb their nose at the Japanese I have no idea), and this whole "Joyland" name seems like a knockoff of Japan's "Joyopolis", including all the video game themed attractions.

This is not to say that it doesn't look like fun, because it does, it's just that it has to be taken with a grain of salt. If it is real, there are probably reasons why we haven't heard about it before now, and those reasons are liable to not be positive ones.

I mean I could be totally wrong, for all I know Blizzard is going to be screaming about this from the rooftops any day now, promoting "OMG, we have our own theme park attractions" and perhaps running contests with vacations to the park in China as the prize or whatever.

Honestly though, I will be very disappointed if it's real and there isn't a Murloc themed attraction. :)

Blizzard shouldn't do anything about this. It's major free advertisement on their part.
Are you kidding me? James Cameron earned $4 million last year from past franchises alone, while Johny Depp got $5 million, Spielberg got $10 million, Burton got $3 million [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/107571-Find-Out-Who-Earned-the-Most-Money-in-Hollywood-in-2010]... you get the idea. And this the StarCraft (biggest RTS) and WarCraft (biggest MMO) themepark we're talking about! I can't even get my head around the potential revenues Blizzard will be funneled. Forget Blizzard, you're asking Activision to pass over this money-grabbing shenanigan!

I predict that this will the player population of Azeroth will drop off by about 90% because once this place opens the Chinese are gunna have to build another Great Wall just to manage the zerg rush of South Koreans.
Fix'd. Though I think the park structures can always lift off to refuse them access (while having tea with the Overlords). More economical than engaging all your SCVs on base building by erecting a huge wall. They wouldn't want their mineral industry to go bust now, would they?

Well, it's funny in a sense how China actually has policies to put a cap on how long a long a person is allowed to play MMOs (last I heard, the Chinese FFXIV had that). But not really surprised though: they're socialist, not communist. And as consumerism has served their socio-economic policies so well so far, why not?

You should visit China sometime. They love their Warcraft, Starcraft, and Counter-Strike over there. I remember a few years ago when I went to visit relatives, I found a channel that broadcasted live Starcraft matches.

Make all the cars Zergling shaped and have one big one shaped like a command center be the target!

In all seriousness if this is fake I highly doubt it will be for long, Blizzard already has enough money to design and build a real life THOR so why not give a theme park a shot?

I can only condone this.

Amazing. That would be awesome. They need to do this! DO EET! NOW!
I am surprised Korea hasn't yet. Slap that sucker in the demilitarized zone, and everyone will forget their problems if only for a day.
