Why would two different reviews done by two different people with about a year between when they were written have the exact same score?
If the scores were objective, they would surely be the same. As I said, reviews are subjective.

That's why they should be the same and why they aren't.
Why should they be the same?

IGN are very biased by money. It keeps them going. Therefore they are going to make it part of their bias to get as much as they can.

Wait, what?

Either I'm slow, or you just contradicted yourself.
Well, I grant you I could use some more sleep, but I don't think I contradicted myself. I just had an opinion on how things should be which is different to the way they are.
So what you meant was that reviews should be objective?

I have a bit of trouble understanding the wording at the end.

honestly i never liked IGN that much they do favor the 360 more than the ps3 but alot of companies do, but IGN makes it point blank that they like the 360 more out of frat boyism

I gave up on IGN when I saw a Killzone series V Halo series article on their site asking people to vote for the "best". Looking at it, even just the title EVERYONE can tell it will turn into fan-boys ranting at each other and only spark more idiotic arguments.

What made it worse?

The author of the article who wrote out the pro's and con's of both games so it could be debated... then added another bit saying how he supported Halo and how it was infinitely better, before the voting was even up.

It just put me right off going on that site or bothering to pay any heed to whatever they say about PS3 related games.

I doubt that the 9.5 (which is still an awesome score) had anything to do with the PS3 version being a little late. It's more likely that there are simply not that many Cons to name, so being late made the list.

Having said that, bias for a reviewer probably has nothing to do with the console the game is played on unless there are technical bugs from a shoddy port or something similar. Bias will probably be more apparent in licensed games and certain genre titles. I mean, the reviewer that only reviews sports games is going to give a JRPG a lower score than a reviewer that cosplays. That's where you find legitimate bias for reviews, not the fanboy console war nonsense.

Because it's still the same game. If my girlfriend came up to me wearing a shirt that I didn't like as much as the one she wore the day before and some different coloured makeup, I wouldn't love her less, I'd just rather see her in the first shirt and the makeup's just abstraction anyway. (the girlfriends mass effect, the shirts the platform, the makeup's the extras, in this case, DLC) its still the same thing. why treat it differently?

Yeah, that's what I was trying to say. I live a life surrounded by chavs. My English skills are subjected weathering every day.

Once again, why would two different people have the exact same opinion on something? And how can you review a piece of entertainment in a way that isn't 100% subjective. There are no chemically reactive strips you hold up to the TV that change color according to how fun the game is or anything.

Once again, because it's the same thing. If it was an ideal world it would work like that, but it's not an ideal world. One twix does not trump another twix just because one came from tesco and one came from my corner shop. Theyre as good as each other.

But it's two different people.

I find IGN much like other big gaming sites to be a joke and ignore their reviews because they aren't critical enough. Any time I listen to them about a game I get it and hate it because it's just more rehash sequel crap like modern warfare.

The very reason I came to escapist was because of ZP because he is super critical of games like me. He isn't a troll he just demands a lot from a game and with the price of them these days (especially for him) why the hell shouldn't you demand something good and original from your purchase.

It's not that I'm some indie game loving person who hates anything mainstream (although most of it is the same crap) I just am highly critical, Indie by the way is no excuse for charging 10$ for a crappy little 8bit game that lasts 5 minutes *glares*

Yes, IGN are biased; as are all sites laying out reviews.
Reviews are personal opinion and sometimes this can creep out a bit too much for some people's liking... IGN is one such site that does this (for me).

I seriously want to know how a game review can be anything other than the personal opinion of the person doing the review, and why is it bad that it is.
