Perhaps they're capitalizing on some already recognized image. Or, as others have suggested, that probably isn't Iron Man (though it does look Stark-ish (hah)) and is in fact this character named Whiplash attempting to look like an icon.

I don't think so because those two markets aren't in the same ballpark. The second part I'm going to go with.

I don't care just as long as Iron Man 2 is good, if not then I hate them for copying Prince of Persia.

Le gasp! That must mean Assassins Creed 2 is ripping them off too!

and God of War!

It's a generic badass-with-weapons pose. It's been done a million times and I doubt they copied any exact example purposefully.

Who is this scraggly, long-haired man, and what is his connection to businessman superhero Tony Stark? (Answer: It's Mickey Rourke as Whiplash, the film's antagonist

Comic Book Fail. That's not Iron Man.

That's Mickey Rourke, playing Whiplash. And looking very awesome.
I don't think you actually read the post.

I don't think it's any coincidence that two generic shots look quite similar. I think the fault lies with a very generic "badass" sensibility (I use the term loosely).

You're kidding, right?

Dramatic use of lightning, high saturation colours in a high contrast composition with a full body composition. Choice of weapons and background suggesting a futurist setting (newspaper stories I've not read yet, weapons I've never seen demonstrated).

And the other hand you have flat outdoor lighting, low saturation colours ("muddy") in a waist up composition that does nothing to either blend or juxtapose the logos and media graphics with the cover art. Choice of weapons suggests primative, handmade, improvised even. Background suggests the old, the barren, and the desolate.

Even the pose is different, and lifting a pose from a character is entirely acceptable (unless you've got it in for everyone who has ever sketched statues or studied life drawing. Plagiarists! Plagiarists the lot of them! Of course...).

Whiplash - wrists reversed, entire arms tense and straight
Prince - wrists forward and relaxed, elbows bent.

The words "ripping off" here have a tabloid sensationalism about them that I do not expect to come from someone who is a Game Editor on this site. I don't like it. I expect better.

I unexpectedly loved Iron Man (1)!
And PoP is good, so if they steal from it, not too blatantly, it shouldn't be too bad.

Overall a "who cares?" response on my end.
