I think it's okay if you're sniping.

Really there's nothing wrong with it at all, but it just gets annoying.

If I'm watching someones back then yes. If I'm getting hunted down by numbers that are superior to my own and I want to get the jump on them yes. Also if I see someone heading my way but my weapon is less powerful then sure why not. Its not being a coward to get the advantage over your opponent its called having a brain.

i dont mind camping in certain situations. the obvious one is if you would be at a major disadvantage in a direct fight (like sniper rifle versus shot gun) but if you were camping a very loooooooong corridor with no cover and people had no choice but to go down it and be picked off with a sniper rifle from just one guy staying there then camping wouldnt be acceptable.
thats how i got my first nuke in MW2, long corridor in skidrow holographic FAL claymores behind me. i know its bad but i wanted a nuke so badly

Sometimes you have to hold ground because theres nowhere else to go.

But I dont like camping when an entire "Attacking team" in BFBC2 rush sits around camping with recon and does nothing but snipe and call mortar and not even doing it properly. Thus leading to the few that do attack are outnumbered and outgunned.

It really depends on the game tbh.
The worst is when they get into tanks and snipe... with a tank... I've seen plenty of tanks just sitting there long range camping on the attack team.

like anything in BC2 its situational, if youve managed to steal a tank from the attackers then you should be allowed to take it and do what the F*** you want with it you deserve it. Same with helos, if you can succesfully steal an enemy helo they deserve to be spawn raped with it

Come on you cant blame a sniper for being too good at shooting from a fixed position, you must see through the diferent possibilities to atttack him, either a riot shield, backstab, tossing a grenade, you cant just run torwards him and expect him to miss so you can kill him

It's NOT okay to camp when it both handicaps your team, and makes the game less fun for both sides. Even then, its not so much, "Not Okay" as it is, "A bad idea". A good rule of thumb is that you should only ever listen to people who are complaining about your camping if they are on YOUR team, and they are making the point that your camping is making the obtaining of objectives for your team more difficult. If your opponent is complaining, congratulations, making the game more difficult for them is your job.

In Real Life? Yes.
In Games? No.
In MW2, Whenever I See A Camper, I Riot Shield Them To Death XD
Why no? It is a legitimate strategy whether it is in games or not. Just read Newfoundsky's post.

It's totally a legitimate strategy. It just makes those not camping have to alter their tactics a bit. I think it's fun catching campers and killing them. But, it's also fun to sit in one place and watch inattentive people run into the same area again and again.

But they didn't steal it from us. It spawned in their base. And they sat on the hill and camped from a mile away. They were in their territory, too, so it's not like I could have C4'd it to death. It's just really annoying.

When gaurding something or sniping I find its an okay stratagy. But when you camp in a deathmatch type game or an enemeys spawn point (I find this most annoying in TF2. It sucks so much to walk out and get rockets shoved up your ass from a sentry.) Also hate turret camping in Kill em Kindly on BioShock 2. Luckily those people usually fail at it.

Camping's a legitimate strategy. It's just games like Call of Duty unbalance it and make it harder to kill them.

For example: Sniper in slot one, shotgun in slot two.
I definitely agree with this, seeing TF2 where snipers can be killed as easily (if not easier) if they camp over just sniping normally.

If you're defending an objective, it's not camping. It's 'defending the objective'.

I think that generally if you camp a spot you're just doing it wrong. Not because it makes you 'too good' at the game, that's a pretty piss weak excuse. "You're not moving or performing any sort of evasive maneouvres and that means you keep killing me!" Uh... what? Sorry, if some guy keeps picking you off because you keep coming round the same route, and despite the fact he's not moving you can't put a bullet in him, that's not him being good, that's you being awful.

The best 'snipers' move around all the time, to make sure they're always catching the enemy off guard.
Yes yes yes yes yes.

I love it when people ***** that I watch the sites in Search and Destroy. What am I supposed to do? I'm on the defending team. Should I be running to the attackers spawn? No.

I don't know where people got the idea that sniping means you're supposed to camp. Bad snipers camp. One of the first rules of sniping is; Shoot once, then move. Obviously your first shot won't always kill, so you can go by the "Kill one, then move" tactic.

Thankfully, now days we can shoot through walls. Campers sit in corners. That's 2 walls I can shoot them through, and they never figure it out.

for ppl just hiding in corners and picking ppl off as they run by or riding out the clock, not ok.

i have to admit ive used that tactic before by any chance was it on isla innocents, ive sat on that hill with the tank and rained down some hell into the village but then again thats not too far away and its the second base so you should be able to get behind me by the second base

Crysis 2 has an interesting way to make camping a little less worthwhile with their dog-tag system.
