I would like too see your opinion.

So you wake up one morning, or not, if you are unlucky, and you find yourself wondering about your days. You have been sitting around playing games since you could first hold a controller. But should you find something new to do? Barrack Obama says you should.
If you're this wrong this early on, it can't be good for the rest of your argument. He simply said to get some exercise once in a while, onoez?

Who says can't we be gamers who live normal lives, btw? I socialize all the time, have a wife, a steady job and a circle of friends who're a mix of gamers and nongamers, hetero and homo, male and female, etc... It's fine to be a gamer, as long as you don't let it rule your entire life.

Its all very well for them to criticize but you might as well tell them to remain indoors and avoid contact with other humans for years on end playing cheap steam games. They would go mad!
... Wow ... Thats me down to the games i play.

And i totally agree.
I get alot of stick for being inside most of the time, i would like to be out there, honest. But my area has nothing but a large grass field and a small kids playground. The rest is all farmer fields and cow crap. I have much more fun being a mass genocidal bastard :D

To OP: Diversiry your life a little more. Join and try things you otherwise would have thought were stupid. That's all. Any ONE thing taken to extreme is problemtic, whatever it is.

Also, for every jar there is a lid.

It's alright so long as you don't spend your entire life in front of the Xbox. And confidence definitely seems to be an issue on this forum. No one should be allowed to say anything bad to anyone else for being a gamer, but we shouldn't sit here forever. Go out, have fun, then return to your Xbox and play some more.

But I thought about it, and I came to realise that society is uncertain of the effects that role reversal would bring. I mean, naturally the attractive children should procreate, go out, have wild parties, and eventually take a lethal amount of drugs and die at the ripe old age of twenty.
While the unattractive people, like, say for example, ME. Should, for the sake of decency, remain indoors and practice their profession or pass time in the cool dark of a bedroom full of game consoles. This is good. Each side gets what they want. But why is it that the bedroom people must be ridiculed for not socialising? If you think about it, why do the outside people want great hordes of zombie-like bedroom people cluttering up the clean streets? If I were them I would encourage them to remain out of sight and out of mind. And by "them" I mean me and people very much like me.

I mean, hypathetically, If I were a spunky hunk with balloons for muscular tissue I would take every opportunity to court ladies (that's flirt, if you are not familiar with that phrase) and embrace the wonders of the natural world, such as drugs. But I am not. I am sixteen, pale, skinny, and have spent my time up till now in an alternative reality where I am a mass genocidal bastard. Its all very well for them to criticize but you might as well tell them to remain indoors and avoid contact with other humans for years on end playing cheap steam games. They would go mad!

Thoughts please? Just so you know I do talk to people fairly regularly. This is not a freak show thread where you see my steady collapse into insanity. But your opinions would be appreciated.
Oh dude. Stop self-pittying yourself. If you treat yourself like some fuckin' ugly zombie scum, then others will do too. And do NOT listen to Obama, he's a douche. You need to find some good balance. Go out(that means go have a good drink with your friends) from time to time, but NEVER abandon gaming as your favorite hobby. There's nothing wrong with a party after which you lie on the ground fucked up, but not too often. And please stop with the "attractive people should procreate, I#m not attractive so I shall not procreate" - shit. Never exlude yourself from that. You have to make yourself no thing clear: "I am the best! And everyone else except my friend and beloved one are my bitches!" Be confident and even overconfident, if you are confident, then life will become way better for you.

You can be just what you want, as long as you don't violate the Human rights.

-Being a mass genocidal bastard in a game = Ok
-Being a mass genocidal bastard = Not ok

And there certainly are more archetypes of the young than just the party animal and teh nerd.

Alright, here we go.

Short version? Yes. Absolutely so, and I am personally offended if anyone thinks it IS wrong.

Long version? We paying attention? Right.
Yes, of course it's alright, because we gamers produce things. We don't just sit around our parents' basement, eating cheetos and drinking mountain dew - or what have you in your particular part of the world, me I like my chips (sourcream and onion of course) and sprite/coke - and play violent computer/console games. No, to actually afford this, we have to get money somewhere. That means we have to work. Working means the government gets money through taxes, because we need to pay those even if we don't want to. We provide a service, we're smart and withou us the world would not be the way it is right now.
There are a lot of stuff out there that have come out thanks to us gamers, inventions and knowledge. At least 80% of us gamers know our way around a computer, and that's a low estimate. That means that we're the geeks that people go to when they're having trouble with their computer. We're the technical support here in the world, more or less. You find me one IT technician who has never played a game before and I will NEVER play a game again. Ever.

We're gamers. We're geeks. And we're here to stay. It would be a sad, sad world without us around here.
Also? Ever heard the phrase, "Geeks: The ones you bully in school, the ones you end up working for after school"? Yeah, there's a point in there. Because we're smart. We're smart, we're good at what we do and we LOVE to learn new things. If there weren't computer geeks, there'd be some other kind of geek. There will ALWAYS be geeks. Always.

I'm getting a little too long winded right now, and I think I'm starting to ramble as well, so I'm going to finish here.
Basically, my answer is yes.

EDIT: Oh, right, nearly forgot. As for us being unsocial? What do you call LAN parties? They're there for us to get together with fellow gamers, and be social.
Me personally, I'm a social kind of guy. If I'm not with people, I'm bored as hell, unless I'm playing a game. I've had girlfriends, I have a number of friends (where I live as well as worldwide, obviously) and I will one day settle down, get a family and everything. But you know what? I'm still going to be a gamer, because that's who I am.

lol of course im kidding, im already insane btw..
Eurgh, I hate it when people say this. You are not insane, and it isn't cool to be insane. If you've ever met an insane person, or even read about the effects and whatnot enough you'd know that.

I'm sorry if I sound rude, but it really tics me off.

OT: Yes, it is okay. It's also okay to play games on occasion, and it's also okay to not sit in your basement eating cheetos while doing it. Also, don't do drugs you attractive idiots. >:|
Yeah people who go around saying how crazy they are tend to be really quiet and reserved people in an actual conversation. Glad it's not just me who's bugged by this.

No idea what the OP's on about tho, some imaginary 2 tiered society with people and gamers or something? It's just a freaking hobby...

I think the OP is onto something. Here's one of those repulsive "gamers" - actually, even worse, "pro gamers" - who should stay indoors and not bother the attractive people IRL.

You know a lot of people who are gamers are also normal people who party and get girls etc.

So I really don't understand where this idea that being a gamer means your anti-social and to beomce social you must give up games?

Let's just say if I lived my life without a single videogame I'd be a smoking drunk with six children not from the same mother who struggles with keeping a job and likely to end up in prison or dead from drug overdose.

People never look at the opposite end of the spectrum which has a lack of videogames.

Ooooh RA!!

OT: Of course its ok to be a gamer. I play games about 14 hours a day. About the other 6 is socializing. The last 4 are a toss up between eating, sleeping, showering, brushing my teeth, more socializing or more gaming. Just cause YOUR socially awkward doesn't mean the rest of the gaming community is.
