I'd lean against insinuating that other cultures are intellectually challenged until I could form a grammatically correct and properly punctuated sentence. That being said;

God. Damn. It. Uuuggggh. I really wish I hadn't spent the last 5-6 minutes of my life watching that. It's crap like that that perpetuates this "all Americans are stupid" bullshit.

Are there stupid people in America? Yes. Can't deny that fact. But really, there are stupid people EVERYWHERE. No matter where you live, you know someone, or have heard of someone from your country who's a fucking moron. Don't lie to me and say otherwise.

What I am willing to agree with is that the stupid people in America do seem to be relatively stupider than those of other countries.

But, for the record, that "1/3 of Americans can't find America on a map" thing rings false to me. I'm not saying people like that don't exist, but I refuse to believe it's truely that many.

I will say that I now offically hate everyone in that video, dispite the fact I've never met them. Damn stupid bastards.

Let me just say, Americans invented the internet. Can we REALLY be that stupid?

I heard one third of Americans write "thrid" instead of "third" and are too lazy to proof read their topic titles. Read that on the Escapist, can anyone confirm?

It's not even like it's a small country like the UK. Although the UK is pretty distinct in it's shape. Even still, it's fucking massive and even says United States of America on it. It's got to be either a rubbish statistic, or they've perverted it in some way by included small children who you would not expect to be able to point out America on a map.

I read this article that 3/4 of English people spend their entire day complaining about America. Is this true?
Sounds about right

I have got to congratulate you, I didn't even notice that. The fact that the title went from one third can to one third can't obscured the flaw from me. That and my subconcious probably corrected it.

Well, yes, those surveyed were under eighteen.

It's quite possible six year olds were surveyed.

Or, y'know, the Beauty Queen.

I highly doubt one third of adult Americans can't locate their own country on a map.
Exactly. They probably can't find Iraq or Afghanistan, but America should be easy enough.

I read on this website (news.com) that recent studies showed that the majority of Americans are heavily ignorant of basic geography and that one third of Americans can't find America on a map. When i read this i thought that has to be dodgy. Is it?
I'd like to see some reputable source about these...inflammatory findings. It is a bit of a rash generalisation to say the least. I know that some nations outside of the UK assume that us in the British Isles are part of mainland Europe, forgetting that we're an "island" nation that provided one of the last lines of defence in WWII seventy years ago.

I don't believe that. I simply don't. We all get geography when we're young. this must have been a very selective group of bums that has been wuestioned. If anyone's been questioned at all.

I'm a freaking idiot when it comes to geography, it's unbelievable how bad I am.

But still, I can at least point out the continents, major countries, and most states (sometimes I choose the state next to it, but at least I get close)

So not being able to point out the USA at ALL......god, I can't imagine how bad someone would need to be at geography

I had a teacher in 5th grade who had us memorize all of the 50 states and their capitals in the US.

And I was able to name most countries in the world when I was 13...
Though that was mostly because of me playing Hearts of Iron.
Huh, what do you know? A computer game that taught me something.

And I have met Americans who are under the impression that most of http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.242401-Is-it-true-that-one-thrid-of-americans-can-find-america-on-a-map?page=3#comment_formEurope lives in villages without any technology after 1900...
You could name nearly all the countries in the world?
You have to be shitting me. There are roughly 200 recognised countries in the world (it goes up and down depending on whether you count independent states etc.)
I'll be impressed if you can name 50 off the top of your head.
My Junior year I took a final for geography that consisted of nothing else but filling in every country in the world, yeah. Made a 100 on it, but I doubt I could do it right now, would have to restudy.

As for naming 50 though... take it Yakko!

I'm not sure. It's possible it's true, but statistics are easily to screw with if you ask the right people. Did they just ask random people in one area at one time? Were they nervous about some strange people shoving a globe in their face demanding to know where the United States was located? There are a lot of possibilities. All I know is that I can find the US, and most other countries with my only trouble being in getting the -Stans of Central Asia straight and all of the tiny nations in Africa.

Does anyone subscribe to Kassem G?

Watch this, its rather shocking.

To be fair I definitely wouldn't have gotten all of those, like, I don't know all four people on Mt. Rushmore.

But JESUS! That one girls laugh, the "who won the civil war" question, "when will we pull out of N. Korea" ugh, absolutely awful.

Are we talking about a political map? Because if that's the case the word "AMERICA" should make it quite clear.

I thought it was that they couldn't find Iran or Afghanistan on a map. America's kind of hard to miss.
