Yeah it's true. It's also true that all black people are either pimps, gangsters or jazz musicians.
And most of the Spanish people swam there from Mexico.
Think about what you just said.

That's crazy. Maybe you meant Latino?

Let me just say, Americans invented the internet. Can we REALLY be that stupid?
Wikipedia: "Sir Timothy John "Tim" Berners-Lee, OM, KBE, FRS, FREng, FRSA (born 8 June 1955,[1] also known as "TimBL"), is a British engineer and computer scientist and MIT professor credited with inventing the World Wide Web"

*shrug*

OT: Yeah, there probably are more stupid and ignorant Americans than there are in countries like England. But that's partly to do with the fact there is hell of a lot more people. More people = more stupid.

A lot of people are ignorant about world geography. It's not something we have to review on a day-by-day basis.

I'm sure one third of Americans CAN find america on a map.

hint Edit your title hint

no, that being said. I think thats abit extreme. America is a single country. They probably mean they cant find certain states (and lets be honest, there are some forgettable states out there) on an unlabeled map and just say "America" to point out the glaring weakness of this country's education system.

Like (and no offense is meant), if they said find... I dont know... Kansas, on a map, sure some people would get it. But others would be like, "Kansas? The fuck do i care where Kansas is?" (thats an actual quote from a kid I sat next to in 8th grade geography, needless to say he's pumping gas, in Kansas of all places) Or if they said find Rhode Island (again no offense is meant), people might ask is that even a state? i thought that was a growth growing off Massachusettes" (again, another quote and i'm well aware I spelled that wrong, but i usually just say Mass.).

Unless its continental plus Canada plus hawaii, if you want to include alaska and hawaii in this. plus all the island territories we "own"

Considering America is a village in the south east of the Netherlands with about 2200 inhabitants, it's pretty amazing 66% of the Americans from the USA are able to find it at all.

The sad thing is that these sorts of myths are largely perpetuated by a)bigoted foreigners who want to believe-or already do-Americans really are that stupid, and b)Americans who want to believe they're smarter than the rest of the ignorant Red White and Blue masses.

We call this "sarcasm" where I come from. Try to keep up, 'kay?
The interwebs have the best of the best and the worst of the worst. You gotta check.

And don't forget Poe. Someone might take you seriously.

Well, actually, we're both right. Berners-Lee created the World Wide Web, but the actual internet itself was created decades beforehand by America. Willing to meet you halfway on this one.

I also agree with your other comments. The USA is the size of several European countries, so of course, there's a greater volume of stupid people.

While I partly agree with the "Geography isn't used day-to-day" argument, that video had some simply inexcuseable examples of stupidity. I mean, come on, Korea is an island? Seriously? That's just embarrassing, not just for themselves, but for all Americans.

you mean 6th grade right? theres no such thing as geography in high school or college. Unless of course you have that confused with history, which is NOT geography.
They teach Human Geography in college now and in high school it's treated as an AP class. It's a pretty useful class I think.
so you just point out countries on a map? thats not a class and serves no use.

I will seek your reply on this, and if you reply what what I think you are going to say, you mean history, currently, where I live, in the united states, there is no class you can take in high school or college that is human geography or other wise. There's humanities, modern US history, World History, and some other related government classes that are put into the history category plus some continent specific history, like histories that deal with parts of asia(note these are not in order). Geography was a class taken in elementary school, and LIKE ITS NAME SUGGESTS we learned where countries and states were.

Isn't that spot on the map with the big letter going across it that read "U.S.A" I'm pretty sure thats where it is, below the other spot of land that reads "CANADA".

Though I hate geography, I can read a map thanks to my years in the cadets. Damn cadets and their tedious map classes. Thank god I paid attention though, my squad was the only ones to reach the first fucking check point, everyone else got lost. We were so skilled that we managed to get to the food point before the fucking food got there!
lol! That's pretty funny! When I went to Cadet camp in 08 we hap to map out where to go, and then simply take a compass and follow our bearings until we completed the course (about 3-4km). I got a 98%, while some people either hit a road and stopped (at the beginning), or crossed the roads they weren't supposed to cross (walking several kilometres too far. Apparently one year a kid ended up in a farmers field and ate steak dinner that night, and the closest farm to the training site was a few dozen kilometres away.

Just comes to show you how ignorant most people are of their surroundings. Or in the case of the topic at hand, their own country. Most people don't realize just how important it is to know where your land starts and ends. That and people don't really care for the outside world. They know where they stand in their own towns, and keep it that way.
