Okay, so basically I got a job about a month ago, and seeing as though I've been working public holidays, I've raked in quite a bit of money, and I was thinking about buying myself a PS3, because a number of my friends have them, and say that they're fantastic.
Now, I have an Xbox 360, and I was wondering whether it would actually be worth buying another console, or whether it would just be a waste, and would complicate my gaming patterns. That said, I'd rather that this didn't turn into some kind of console wars flame thread.
So if any of you guys have any advice, or experience on the sort of thing I'm talking about, I'd love to hear what you think.
I own both, and honestly, the only reason you'd want two is so you can play any game. I only use my PS3 for blu-ray and exclusives, I have something like 5 games for it. Compared to the 35+ for my 360.
Either console is awesome, so if you already own a 360, consider the PS3 for
-Blu ray
-No more exclusive BS as you now own both consoles
-You can play with other PS3 friends

I totally agree with Furioso, there is a good amount of exclusives for the PS3, plus there's Resistance, I liked it but most of my friends didn't. I was having this problem a while back. I thought that I should try and balance out which games I get on which console. I ended up getting only exclusives on PS3 and everything else on 360 because the controller is so much more comfortable
There is a third party controller for the PS3 that's built like the X360 controller. Just for your information :D

The PS3 may be worth it just for the exclusives, depending on your taste in games. I have 9 games for the PS3 (not counting download games); none of them are multiplatform. If you were asking about buying an X360 when you've already got a PS3, then my answer would be no (almost every game can be found on either PS3 or PC), but in the reverse case then I think you should take a long look at the list of exclusives and ask yourself if you want to play those games.

Not really. If all your friends have ps3 you can just mooch off them for the 2 exclusives still roaming this earth.

If i had the cash i would get the PS3, there are plenty of good exclusives out for it and hey its always nice to have a blu-ray player.
Plus if any exclusives come out for either console that take your fancy, you're covered!

I have neither! WII ALL THE WAY! Im joking.. i dont even have that... cry.

Seriously though, if i had an xbox, does it really matter if you cant play a few games that are ps3 exculsive? if yes, sure. if no, then well, just use your money to buy something else... like a new fridge.

Comes out on Feb. 23, according to Game Informer!

I can seem to handle my PS3 and Xbox just fine, so I'd say if you want to, go for it. Not trying to flame here, but for some reason I actually prefer my PS3, despite my 360 game collection being almost 4 times larger.

So if you wan't one, go for it, I'd say it's worth it.

I say get it.I only own a PS3 and a gaming PC,but i have played on an Xbox.

The PS3 is great. And your patterns probably wouldn't change all that much.It all depends on what game you get and all that.

Do you want a blu-ray player and do you like the exclusives, answer these two questions and you have your answer

There is only 1 reason to get a console you weren't planning on buying before:

You want to play a PS3 exclusive game. So if that game is worth $300 + the price of the game(s), then enjoy spending your money.

Umm.. if you want another console - get a PS3. It has everything the Xbox has (maybe apart from a the biggest online-store, even though PSN has quite much). It has an integrated wireless card, more storage-space and OpenGL support - meaning you'll be supporting more open standards.

However, if you want something even better - get a new PC. Battlefield Bad Company 2 is coming soon - reason alone to upgrade.

As long as you have a Wii, as well as one of these (PS3/Xbox 360/good PC) you are set.
I'm sorry but please give me one GOOD reason that any gamer should own a wii
Please give me one GOOD reason that any gamer should prefer any console over a PC

I own a Wii and love it, but there is no console in the world that can substitute for a good PC.

There's probably a better way to spend your money.

Donate to Haiti, or, as someone else said, buy lots of pie.

I have all 3 consoles & a gaming PC, with about 20 titles for each. So, well, I guess that makes my opinion on the matter clear. If you're a serious gamer, and you can afford it, I'd say definitely get a PS3 as well. It has some great exclusives and if you split your multiplatform games over both systems, you'll increase the lifespan of both - it's win win!
This. You don't get to call yourself a serious gamer until you have all major platforms (and that includes the Wii).

I agree that there is no substitute for a good PC. What I meant was that I haven't seen a genuinely good game come out on the Wii, ever. SSBB was fun for a while and I enjoyed Metroid Prime 3, but both of those games lost points with me because of the controller. For SSBB I was able to use my gamecube controller but Metroid Prime had some uncomfortable motion sensor movements, that drew away from the result.

Oh and no serious gamer can call things like Wii Sports or Wii fit a game with a straight face.
Plus the Graphics suck when compared to Pc and the other consoles.

I'm with this guy. I love the ps3 for movies and the xbox and pc for games. On ps3 I have hot shots golf and ratchet and clank games and precious little else that I like.

I'm going to say none of the current consoles are worth owning. If you already have a 360, then your best bet is a Wii. I only say that because if you have to get another console, then that is the only one that is going to complement the 360. The PS3 is only going to be as good as a Blu-ray player for you, and you can get those for $100 these days.

I'm not trying to come off as a PC elitist, but I would consider putting that money into a PC, assuming that the one you are posting from doesn't have some gaming capabilities. I've been putting my time into a lot of decade old games lately, and I've been having more fun with them than any game from this generation (except maybe Bioshock). My video card is 2 years old already, and I can run all games at max settings at 1080p. 2 year old video cards are cheap, so I'd be willing to bet you could make a decent PC for the cost of a PS3. The only hitch is how well you maintain it, but you can find lots of help on that if you need it.
