Is it wrong to let your dog sleep in your bed?

My dogs have no issue understanding the order of the pack as it were, they eat at the time they allowed which is after me always. They sleep with me because they do, they don't have an issue sleeping elsewhere when required. For example when I'm sick I don't like them being near me so I relegate them to the baskets, they haven't once complained or disagreed. I have three dogs and they ALL sleep with me, it can be a little crowded but I think packs should sleep together. And for anyone who is unaware, they do. You're a family, what's wrong with it?

The should understand their position, and remember they're dogs not humans. This being said, my position on the issue varies from dog to dog. Each human is different, so is each dog.

Cooking for your dog is a little weird, unless its special dog food. I know one of my friends is a husky breeder and she does a lot of racing competitions. They eat some kind of disgusting substance, it's made for them but it's not the same food as her.

It really depends on how the dog is. If it's a loyal, friendly and obedient dog then by all means let it sleep on your bed. However, if it's a badly behaved dog, then you should put it in it's place and make it sleep in a basket or something.

No.

There is a difference between "treating your dog like a person", and "treating your dog well". A more complex version of this goes into animal rights (no successful argument for it, unless you want to start bringing animals into court to answer the charges of them murdering fellow animals) Vs animal welfare (Basically: It's ok to kill animals for food and use them for research, but not okay to kill and torture animals for no practical purpose), but that's not so important in this specific case.

The only reason for being disgusted at the idea of allowing your dog to sleep on your bed is purely cultural. Some ppl allow their dogs to live in their homes, but don't allow them on any furniture (sofas, beds, chairs etc.). Some ppl don't understand why you would want to let the dog in your house, and think it's normal to keep them as pets that remain outdoors at all times. Some ppl don't even understand why you would want to go near a dog, as they think they are dirty, filthy animals that should be kept away from humans (Through out the Middle-East and many parts of Africa, they are treated more or less like rats).

Personally, I grew up with a dog that was little more than a nanny for me and my siblings. She watched over us, played with us, slept with us, and was allowed to sleep in our parents bed. I think it's perfectly ok, and I don't understand why people would think any other way (But I do understand that there are ppl who think that)

Yeah, that is a little weird. Not the bed thing by itself (although that's... "disgusting" is too harsh, but basically that), but with the cooking as well?

That is treating it like a person.

There isn't really anything weird about it, I let my dog sleep in my bed. -points at avatar-

Although my dog is small and doesn't shed(he's like a living Teddy bear). If it were a big dog I would make it sleep on the floor, simply due to shedding and taking up too much room. It can cause some behavioral issues though, so it might not be the best of ideas.

Lots of people let their dogs sleep on their beds, whenever I visit my dad one of his sleeps on mine. I don't see how that could be considered weird.

My dog will sleep on my bed, but won't share it with me. He likes to take the entire thing up, which is impressive as I have a double bed. It's handy in winter though, my bed is nice and warm when I hop in! ^.^

I think some of the people here get the cooking wrong, cooking for your animal isn't the same as giving them your meal - it is special self-made animal food

No, not at all. It might not be the best idea, but there's nothing inherently wrong with it.

My dog is lying on my bed right now behind my back. I never had a problem with him lying there as long as he doesn't take too much space and I can sleep despite that.

As for cooking your dogs food people do that mostly cause they want to take greater care of their dogs "diet" and make sure their healthy.

For one, it's disgusting.

You wouldn't sleep in a dog's basket, so why turn your own bed into one?

I always let my dogs sleep in my bed... I wasn't aware it was a social issue...

Do you own a dog? Because if you do I would be genuinely surprised. No one thinks their dogs are "dirty" and "disgusting" most people I know, myself included, treat their dogs like children.

I don't think it's wrong at all.
But don't mention it to your friends, or they might laugh at you.
It happened to me once.
I'm not exactly a good person.

When you say 'in your bed' do you mean on your bed over the covers? Cos that's fine.

I don't see a problem with it. My dog (Jack Russel so he's not that big) sometimes makes his way into my bed and sleeps at the foot with his head poking out of the bottom. He has his own bed and most of the time he sleeps there, but sometimes he's able to get my door open and I'm usually too damn tired to even care.

He doesn't sleep there all the time, but he does usually get a few hours with me before I go to work. I can't say I blame him, it must be cold downstairs so coming up into a bed warmed by a human body would be what I'd do in his situation, too.
