Until you are bigger than him and have a job, right now all you can do is wait. No I'm not saying hit your dad, because even though my dad was a prick when I was younger unless he tries to hit me first, I'd never lay a hand on him. Now that I am older, bigger, smarter (better educated), when he decides to make fun of me about something, I destroy him with jokes.

Okay you've already lost me. Your dad is wrong already. But I will keep reading anyways.

Okay, I finished. Your dad is a jerk, and you shouldn't listen to him. HOWEVER, you shouldn't tell him off, that will only make things worse. Just leave him and it be. It will get better, I promise. If you need anything, just send me a message and I'll do what I can..

Sounds to me like your father is insane, even just using the word "******" towards his son is absurd.

Good luck man, and while it may be a hard concept, know that parents aren't always right, in fact in modern America I feel like they're usually wrong. I know that I've known more than my mother since I was about 13, and she only recently started to admit it (the whole going to college thing is what I think sold her).

I'm HIGHLY inclined to take this story with a big helping of salt (c'mon, did we all forget what we thought of our parents at 14?), but if the facts are as presented, then yes, the dad is wrong.

The question I would ask is why you are asking random strangers on the Internet about a family issue, but that's not important.

This sounds like simple family banter and nothing else. He's having a laugh with you and that is about it.

Pfff, my dad would have told me to grab it.

With my face.

While covered in petrol.
Pffft. Back in my day my Dad would have made me eat the boiling foil, we didn't have proper food back then what with the rations and whatnot.

I don't know if you're a pansy, homosexual, or ANY of those other insults he might have slung at you. Because I don't know you. And even if I did, I probably wouldn't ask you about your being a wuss, sexual orientation, or anything involving aluminum foil.

There's only one thing I want to know.

How good is your lasagna, and did you make enough for me?

(Addendum)

Also, my father too would have called me a wuss.

The only difference is, he'd have stuck his hand in there... GRILLED IT ON BOTH SIDES... pulled out the foil... and EATEN it. Right out of the oven.

He's just like that.

Tongs. Use Tongs. Tongs anyone?
I am so glad that I'm not the first person to consider this. Really, what is wrong with some people? How can they not understand the power of tongs?

OT- your dad sounds borderline abusive. Try having a long talk with him about how messed up he is for talking about you like that and telling you to burn your hands. If he acts like a douche about this request, then my first sentence still stands, just ignore the word borderline.

Have you counted your dad's brain cells recently? I imagine it's a countable number.

Anyways, you may not be the macho insecure douche that he was at your age, but you're probably a lot smarter than he is. Use an oven mitt, or tongs. He can keep his burned hands.

Actually foil doesn't get that hot in ovens/grills. Your father was correct in the fact that you could indeed go and get it. Perhaps your smaller arms would be able to squeeze past the actual hot parts of the oven while his larger, manlier arms would touch the searing parts.

I wouldn't go as to say your father was wrong. Perhaps his names were a bit harsh, but it's to persuade you into toughening up probably. Dads don't want to see their sons become wimps. Parents like bragging about their kids. Fathers like to brag about their son's toughness and physical accomplishments usually. If there is nothing to brag about, then the father may become frustrated with his offspring as well as himself.

As a man who can cook, i cant tell you how many times thats happened to me and how many times ive simply picked the aluminum foil up. But yeah Tongs if your a pansy works just as well. Remember aluminum is used for disbursement of infrared convective heat. Maybe dad knew that.

as for the name calling, as someone who raised a boy, I get it.Not to the point of homophobic slurs, but I get the desire to toughen a kid up and prepare them for the harsh realities of the world and being a man instead of raising an inept man child through the all too common process of unjustified reassurance, inflating self esteem and outright coddling.

I recommend running away from home and then questing for a mighty [Insert Object].
It's what I would do.

Failing that, there are number of ways to murder people without getting caught, it's easier than you would imagine.

And if even that repulses you, you could leave the, presumably, aluminum foil in the oven, and remind your dad that it does not retain heat.

A real man is brave enough to use his tongue.

OT: your dad is an asshole, not sure what I would do in your situation, but I hope you can get away from that shit.

I'm pretty sure trying to enforce sexist gender roles with homophobic slurs makes him wrong, and a rather poor parent.
Eh. It's all opinionated. Homosexual/sexist slurs are used A LOT as encouraging methods. Heck, a lot of people use those slurs in every day life. Just because his father doesn't necessarily branch himself away from the common usage of those slurs doesn't mean he is a poor parent. So he uses slurs, so what? It's not like he forced his son's arm into the hot oven or beat his son for his lack of action.

You don't think there's the possibility of psychological damage when the kid is 14 years old and is probably confused as fuck due to being a little ball of hormones at this period in life?

Sorry but the "meh everyone says it" defense falls flat when he steps outside of the common slur usage like fag and specifically mentions multiple ones, all having to do with homophobia.

The dad is a twat. If he needs to try and shape his son in the image he sees fit rather than let him develop into the individual he should become, then there's probably some serious insecurity/shortcomings in his life. And to make himself feel better, he's taking it out on his own kid.

This does not a good parent make.

Just bear with it for four more years and avoid as much conflict as possible and it should all be good. If it starts to become a problem, deal with it in a way that you won't regret.

If I learned anything from the movie Hot Rod, its that in order to earn your dad's respect, you gotta kick his ass.

Your dad's a bloody wanker. None of the stuff he natters about seems relevant to how "manly" a fellow is....
