is "playing with freinds in the same room" completley dead?

Epic Games have gone out of their way to add 4 person Co-op to Gears Of War 3 so I'd say it's alive for some and is for me myself... and I look forward to playing Mass Effect 3 with friends!
Mass effect 3 is going to have multi now?

gaaaahhh WHY??????

Hear me out, besides being a checklist box filled think of it... Gears Of War with biotics, couldn't if done right make for an awesome unique multiplayer experience?

No, it's not dead. That said, console FPSs are NOT good for that type of thing (or much of anything else, they are all absolutely awful, NO exception, including Golden Eye and Perfect Dark btw), so if you are talking about, like, playing FPS on the same screen with friends - yeah, that's probably near death. But other multiplayer game types - Smash Brothers, party games, fighting games - are still played excellently on a single screen with friends.

For anyone wondering I am not trolling or certain of ME3 multiplayer but I feel it is something that if actually pondered could be awesome.

I wouldn't say it's dead... yet. I mean, me and my friends occasionally play SSB: Brawl if we got a LAN party going.

I see your point though, and I got to agree. Gaming does seem to be leaning more and more towards the "each person has their own console and/or TV while sitting at home to play together" as of lately... Or maybe it's just me buying singleplayer games only since I don't have any friends who live in the area and would be interrested in playing anything on the PS3/PSP with me. And split screen on a PC doesn't work all that well.

I can't believe I did not read any Guitar Hero in here... Okay, I Ctrl+F and someone did mention it... And Rock Band, Singstar etc are party games too.

I don't care if you people have something against party games (I'm not fond of them either) but internet will never replace "same-room-multiplayer".

A lot of games could have splitscreen? Yes they could/should. But playing with friends is not dead.

I wouldn't say it's strong, but it's still alive and well.

Younger gamers who have brothers and sisters to game with will play co-op play in the same location. As would roommates and people in relationships.

Games like Rock Band are among the few that highly encourage this type of gameplay.

Lets not forget the Nintendo Wii either. A huge chunk of it's gaming library is devoted to this kind of gaming for optimum enjoyment.

I would go as far to say as gaming in the same room is more alive this generation than it was last generation.

I supose...I just feel that it gets shoved into games where it isnt needed, I have no doubts (well hopefully) that ME3 single player would be amazing regardless...but it just doesnt feel like a goon sign and It just feels refreshing to have a agme coming out that has NO multi what so ever

Aye true, but maybe just maybe it could actually be a worthy addition, I am apparently rare in thinking it would be awesome to play against a friend with ME game play. Shooting an opponent's shields down then lifting them into the air to blast the crap out of them.

I played Gears of War 1 and 2 split screen with two different friends (at their places, as I don't own an Xbox), and it was pretty fun. Other than that though, I haven't played anything split-screen since Golden Eye and Perfect Dark on N64. Glorious days. Oh, and Lylat Wars!

I still get together with a few friends for a small LAN-party. Just four or five people, it's usually good fun, at least if we have a new game everyone is interested in.
....What?! Don't you tell me I'm getting too old! I'll never grow up!

I always play with people in the same room. Only games I don't are Lotro and Warcraft III. Otherwise: Fifa, NHL, CoD, DBZ, Old school Mario games, Rock band, Mario Kart.... all of these I always play in the same room as my mates. Often also we (me and my friends) bring our computers to the same room at someones place and hook up an LAN and play computer online games in the same room except it isn't online (Warcraft III)

It's dying, but games like Gears Of War 3 are doing their best to keep it alive. I've heard great things about the two-player on it...

Few games these days do co-op splitscreen i reckon since multiplayer online has become more focused to a point where they don't see the need of including splitscreen since most gamers have their own console and the internet.

Me on the other hand i just played all the co-op missions on Rage and we had a great time playing through all of them and i think it was well worth the money,

I play plenty of games in the same room as my friends. I just finished Gears of War on split screen co-op with one of my buddies. I also did portal a few months ago, and playing halo online with guests.

Also, sports games, I play Fifa split screen all the time, also tiger wood's.

Maybe its just that your friends don't like you and don't wanna come over.

My friend usually comes round mine with his xbox and we play side-by-side. Not on multiplayer, but just so we can talk and play Obilivon simultaneously.

We're planning to do the same when Skyrim comes out.

Here in europe we still play a lot of PES and FIFA, we usually play it in our house or in some bars that have it, so it's not dead but I can't find many other examples of it
