Here's what I want to know. Is Prototype any good? I've seen a few clips and stuff but they don't really compell me all that much even though I've read some good reviews on it. All I need to know is if it is worth buying or not.

I give it a 9/10.
The only thing is that it might get a bit frustrating in some parts.
But that can be fixed by doing some side missions.
So all in all, it's a great game.

Well, don't expect a story that will blow your mind, but the action flows nicely. You feel powerful without the game being too easy.

Also, you can jump over a car, grab it, and throw it at a helicopter, all in the same jump. What more could you want?

I suggest watching this:
That pretty much sums up the gameplay.

it's a really good game, i spent hours jumping to the highest buildings and seeing all i can in Manhattan, plus the side-missions are really fun, and the over-all story-line isn't bad once you can figure it all out. i would prefer it over any other recent game that has come out.

Do you like:
-Hack & Slash style gameplay?
-Repetitive gameplay?
-Fucked up difficulty curve?
-Clichéd plot?
-Embarrassingly bad voice acting?

If you answered Yes to any of these questions, then you will like Prototype.

Before anyone asks: no! Fun gimmicks and pretty graphics do not make up for a piss-poor game!

Sounds like someone can't beat the specialist....

Trolling aside, it is not jesus reincarnated, but it is a fun game and well worth the money.

Nah, I just don't like cut/paste hack & slash games where you're the ultimate badass who destroys everything.
I prefer strategy and actual difficulty that requires skill to beat (see: Age of Empires, Starcraft). I'm tired of all these games boasting difficult gameplay, but instead deliver controller-smashing frustration.

These gimmicks I speak of are merely all the fancy ways to dispatch an enemy. If you look at that video a few posts up entitled Top 10 Reasons Why You Must Have Prototype, you'll see that almost all of them are based on the same concept. As I understand it, the only thing Prototype has going for it are the fancy ways to kill people.

A bit rough around the edges, but yes, it's good.

go into it expecting very fun gameplay, not much of a story
I've actually found the story to be decent. However, it's not served up to you, but rather you have to go out and piece it together yourself. If you just play story missions the story will seem atrocious. If you take time to collect the Web of Intrigue targets, the plot starts to make sense, you get a decent amount of backstory and some depth to the main characters.

it looks like hella fun, but the story gets swallowed by the fun shit you get to do (like the whole "im gonna eat your mass" part). I suggest renting it. or waiting for zero punctuation to review it so you will know everything wrong with it.

Ya thats totally ok. I like strategy games too. I understand how you feel about the hole "I'M A TOTAL BADASS! FEAR ME! RAWR!!!!!!!!" But since this character has a reason for being a badass to everyone (because I THINK he was mutated from a human or something) I can kinda forgive him. I do like the fancy ways to kill people though. Gives you a choice on how you want to make them die (thats horrible!). You are right, there is nothing else I would play this game for other then killing. Fancy killing but killing non-the-less.

Well, people have been crying how it is too hard... and don't even get me started. If you want an RTS where you spam units, take resources, spam MOAR units, to take more resources etc. etc, play an RTS! It's only button smashing if you can't remember the moves. It could fall under the sub category of Stylized fighter I suppose. Oh, and if you don't like games like this, you won't like it anyway, so stop flaming!

After the tutorial and first few bits of gameplay following my impression of the game dropped a bit from expectation. Although it didnt make a full comeback in all areas it kept me interested to the end, which is a lot more than some recent games have done. If you like this type of game it will probably be fun to play and worth the money to buy or rent, whichever you do.

Prototype has nothing but a cool factor going for it and it will have a great first impression, but that's about it.

It's got "rent me" written all over it.

-and even though shapeshifting is probably one of the coolest powers I've seen in a game, I still feel like I'm playing either Hulk or Spiderman with copious amounts of blood.

It's all style and little substance, though, the style is the selling point.

The story isn't really that great, rather bland and cliche. It looks like something where they spent 95% of their time with just the gameplay and game mechanics, and then just threw a story onto there very quickly.
The gameplay is rather linear as well. The idea of freedom is BS when the entire time you have a single object to get to, and that's all they're going to give you. It's just mindless killing, almost as bad as GTA4. There's no real strategy involved (the only real strategy i came across was trying not to get shot by the 4 RPGs aimed my way), and so the only real game mechanic is how many combonations you can pull off. Of course more than half of these require actual thought to pull off, and so when people are mindlessly button-jabbing, you'd be using a handful of maybe 6-8 moves.
This is something that I could see that would appeal to younger audiences who just like blind mass killing. For an actual game though, I'd say it's rather bad.
