I might be flamed at, but what exactly is this game and what was so special about it people are humping it for the sake of nostalgia?

No offense intended, if anyone can inform me, quote and reply please.
Well, the whole game was an attempt to tell an epic (In the classic sense of the term) martial arts tale in the modern era. For the most part it suceeded, it was engrossing, sweeping (eventually) and altogether reallt good, but only came up with about 5 of it's 23 or so chapters before the sequel just didn't come. It was also hugely unique, even now, in that every NPC was an individual with their own habits and things they do. It's tricky to explain, really, why it's still so popular, but theres some reasons: Combination of "Holy fuck, this is awesome!" and "What the hell happens, you bastards?!"

Throw in Shenmue 1, release on XBLA and PSN, use profits to go towards the Shenmue 3 fund. I can dream.

Sweet sassy sunshine, I hope this is true.
Maybe... maybe... someday I can get closure.

...I dare not even open my heart to dream it.

Good God do I want this to be true. My brother has my dreamcast at his house, and I am way too lazy to go get it from him. If it comes out, I'll be able to have it in the comfort of my own home without going to my brothers to get it, AND I'll be able to support SEGA on this one and show that people want to see the conclusion to their epic martial arts tale.

I'd probably be willing to pay more to download this game (or both of them preferably) that I would on a lot of brand new games. It's worth well more than the usual rate for an old game download. I loved both of them! Until my dickhead brother decided to just throw out the Dreamcast along with all of our games for it without consulting me. I really hope at some stage they develop the remaining chapters for the series.

I really, really hope they put it on XBLA. Oh, the hours I spent perfecting my forklift skills...

I hope they release all of them in time. One of the most innovative games ever made. Way ahead of its time just like the Dreamcast. First day buy for me. Have you guys seen any sailors around here? I'm looking for some sailors.
How about a game of lucky hit?

I remember this being great. One of my favourite games at the time. I hope it isn't in English though because the English voice acting is bloody awful. So woodena and unspontanious.

I bought the Xbox version of Shenmue II last month and was shocked at how bad the voices were. I think on the dreamcast it was in Japanese though so it a lot better. Had so much more emotion

OT: I'd get this if it was for XBLA despite that rant.

I seriously doubt Shenmue is coming out for XBLA simply because of the file size. I realize that most people have bigger HDDs now but let's not forget that Shenmue came out on 3 GD-Roms, which is about 3 Gigabytes. Still, the name "Project Berkeley" was the development name of Shenmue, and given that whole XBox games can be downloaded now via XBLA maybe this does have legs. Still, I would be quite surprised to see Shenmue come out for this.

I'm not suprised and at the same time, I'm very excited. Lately, there have been lots of rumors surrounding older Dreamcast games, like Sonic Adventure, Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio coming to XBLA.

The first thing that came to my mind was "they only have to include something about Shenmue and we can call it a day", I guess SEGA was reading my mind... >.>'...

I don't think it's gonna be as heavy as the original, with today's compression technology can allow to cram the entire game to maybe a full blown GB, maybe 1.5, but not more than 2 GB.

And god forbids me if they actually do it, but they can release it as an episodic adventure game, an episode from each disk, in this case three episodes, or "chapters" a la Fable 2 if they release Shenmue II.

3GB doesn't seem too bad to me, no?

Hopefully this is true but it will only make me sad as i don't think Shenmue 3 will ever happen and i will be left with half a story.

Sad times indeed.

Less than half, actually. :l
Shenmue II covered chapters 2, 3, 4, and 5 out of the 16 part saga.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to weep.

The hottest trend in online-only videogame remakes is to give players the option of playing in either "classic" or "updated" mode. Cave Story had this. So did the XBLA remake of R-Type.

I wonder if Sega will continue this trend with Shenmue, allowing players to switch between "original Shenmue" and "updated Shenmue." Except in this case, the only thing that would be different between the two versions of the game would be the load times. Thus, if you choose to play in "original mode" you'll get to relive the glory that was listening to the buzzing/scanning sound that would (loudly) let us know whenever a Dreamcast game was loading.

Sorry but I won't consider this a "true" version of Shenmue if it doesn't force you to endure that buzzing sound for 10 minutes everytime you try to score a cheap in-game Sonic souvenir from a random gum-ball machine. Ahh those gum-ball machines...

But really, the game I want them to re-release is Segagaga. Now there's a worthwhile game that virtually no one has played. (Good article about that game here: http://www.edge-online.com/magazine/the-story-sega%E2%80%99s-oddest-game-ever )

More people deserve to experience the magic that was Shenmue [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=376aU2U42U0].
/\ This.
I am one of those who need to experiance that.

I first heard of Shenmue through Happy Videogame Nerd just recently, and have since found the game very interesting. It was certainly ahead of it's time.
Wait, the HVGN covered Shenmue?!
To the internet!
