Is the Heavy Rain Mall Scene Uncanny-Valley-Tastic?

Considering I've seen real actors that fall into the Uncanny Valley (Data from Next Generation, but that was the point with that character) I don't think games are going to get rid of that little niggling "this isn't quite normal" feel. At least not for a long time.

Did these guys play Half-Life 2? How old is that game and all of the characters seem to move more realistically in that.

The graphics are good, but the movements and dialogue just seem... off. It doesn't look right.

EDIT: One more gripe - right from the beginning, the way the guy walks into people walking towards him - and they all do that "I'm walking into a wall but I'm going to keep moving my legs like I'm walking" thing... I liked in Assassin's Creed (haven't played #2 yet) where when you walk into someone, you gently push them out of the way.

Is it just me, or did anyone laugh at how implausible something like this is.
So losing your child in a busy mall because the little fucker won't stay in one place for too long without their curiosity killing overtaking them and then getting run over by a car is implausible?

My boy, you give children too much credit.

To be serious, I don't think it's implausible at all. Hell, one time when I was probably 5 or so, I was on a cruse with my parents and I wandered off to the play section without my parents knowing. They were going crazy looking for me everywhere.

Like I said, you give kids too much credit ;P

It was alright. I like the idea of this game, and maybe you're more attached to the characters playing through the game to that scene. But that kid is just retarded. Seriously. But I find the premise of this game more and more intriguing. If I wasn't worried that the various "porn" scenes would make me feel dirty I'd probably play it... But I also see the need for them. So maybe if I didn't live with my mum lol.

Just watched the trailer. Was the kid supposed to be mentally handicapped/autistic? If not, his movements and dialog were absolutely dreadful. There's no real excuse for the mom, though... She's got really dozy eyes, like she's sleep-deprived(or maybe she's just high), and the way her head bobbles around creeps me out a bit.

I like it, I could really understand how this could be moving

However, the only problem with this video is that I already hate Jason, and I'm glad he gets hit by the car

What little feckless brat goes running off, demands a baloon, runs off again, then runs into traffic?

There's a thing called Natural Seletion which Jason failed to pass

If I were his dad and he survived all of that, it wouldn't be one of those mistakes that was so severe I wouldn't be angry but relieved. OH NO! I would be LIVID. What a little brainless f*ckwad!

Heavy rain isn't supposed to be funny? Well it will be. Especially if they keep the stupid dialogue and poor synchronization of the mouthes.

also "No you can't have a clown!"

Kids will walk off to something that's immediately interesting if they think they can get back. Jason just did a runner as far as he could for no reason since there was nothing on the other side of the street.

It looked like he was looking at whatever a store was showing or something like that, and keep in mind that the video was trimmed down from the actual level. From the time Ethan lost his son to when he found him, there would be plenty of time for Jason to get to the other side of the street just by walking.

And like I said two times before, you're giving kids too much credit ;P

I remember being on a cruse at 5 years old or so, I was bored with my mother sleeping and I wasn't allowed outside (we were watching icebergs fall in Alaska), so I just decided to walk around the boat and found the play area. Obviously, my parents panicked, and looked everywhere for me. If I could get around a cruse ship in about 30 minutes, I'm sure Jason could get across the street in 5.

Hmm.. must be really hot in that mall with how sweaty everyone looked.

Overall, I suppose it wasn't a bad scene, but it's not something I had any interest in playing before seeing this and it's definitely still something I'm not interested in.

Oh, and wow I haven't seen camera angle cuts that quick and annoying since RE1. I suppose it plays into the confusion of the scene, but this is a game we're supposed to be playing.. right?

I didn't mind the graphics too much. They're actually pretty good. It looked a little odd at first, but about a minute in I actually got used to them and was able to focus on the scene itself. And looking at it, if that's what we can expect to see from the finished product, I'm even more psyched for Heavy Rain than I was before. And that's saying something :D

OMFG it's the mall from Dead Rising!!! Look out, that clown has a fucking CHAINSAW!

For real though, I'd ***** slap my kid if he kept walking away from me like that.

The fact that so many people seem to be upset with the faces probably means that it's so deep in the Uncanny Valley that people will have a hard time finding thier way out to enjoy the game. It's probably because gametrailers was skipping all over the scene for me, not sure why, (hd and sd) but I wasn't really messed with.

The dialogue isn't the best but I've heard much worse. The kid isn't very good, maybe I'll let him die so I don't have to listen to him :p. This seems like an interesting "interactive movie" that I'll enjoy. The only thing that was life like enough for me to be in the uncanny valley was the clown. And I'm not afraid of clowns, so thats wierd.

However, I daydream all the time and I've got a vivid imagination so I daydream as I see things. So maybe the uncanny valley doesn't apply to me, as I've never been really unsettled or thought of things as zombies in any videogame or animated film. The Spirits Within was just animated dolls, and those fancy Japanese robots don't freak me out. Maybe I'm just wierd.

There was a moment when the kids face looked alot off but most of the time I was thinking "What the hell is this childs problem??"

Seriously, he needs one of those kid leashes if he insists on taking long strolls every two minutes.
