so this is what i heard that fish isn't considered meat for some god forsaken reason. but you are young and arguing is something you must learn in your mid-late teenage years. the chef most likely knows you weren't at fault but if people there leave because of you, they are losing money. What happened isn't your fault but people see it that way and those people are customers and if they leave the cafe isn't making money.

Umm....You shouldn't have gotten into an argument you knew you couldn't win. Really.

The best response to zealots/extremists like this is to just blow them off as if they're just stupid people who want to feel important. (spoiler warning, most of them ARE)

if you HAD to argue, a simple "humans are animals that are designed to eat meat. I'm just participating in the natural world order like any other animal" and then a passionless "whatever" to all their responses would have been enough.

...Freakin extremists. I hate their guts.
A) This^
and
B) I find it extremely suspect that two adult strangers start talking to a (solitary?) 14 year old at length no matter what the subject. It wasn't just a passing comment, they actually "joined" you at the table etc.

Go complain to the restaurant that they are disturbing you, instead of arguing to the extent that you are liable to blame, if they do nothing about it then they can hardly complain when you do the same to them, and if they do then problem solved.

That's pretty extreme bro.

OT: The reactions you described make your story seem incredibly over the top and possibly fake.

Still, I can't say I wouldn't have done the same as you did, but ignoring them would've been the best way to go.

I wouldnt have argued with her, as soon as she asked you to change your ways you should have order another steak and eaten it whilst looking directly at her. Then I'd order another meat based product to take away

Insane people like that really make me giggle.

Last time a vegie told me I was cruel for eating meat I told them to excuse me it was time to go to my alter and sacrifice a chicken to my lord carnivorous.

I don't care what other people do, eat, drink or believe as long as they keep it to their damn selves.

Really irritating that some people believe they can force their values on on other people. Just mock them and move on, it's the least they deserve.

Always remember, if a cow had a chance it would eat you and everyone you love.

Yeah there's a lot of stupid people, but I never had any faith in humanity to begin with so I can't tell you to "keep your chin up bro".
About you getting banned from the diner, If I owned a restaurant and suddenly three people are yelling at each other, and it starts escalating until a woman starts crying I wouldn't let you back inside either.

The man speaks wisdom. I've had a similar situation with someone who couldn't comprehend that just because you call it fish, it's still meat. People like that can't be reasoned with, so don't try.

And if it was wrong to eat cows, it would of evolved to not be so absurdly delicious.

Crazy, ignorant people who think they are always right and will try argue you into submission will always exist I'm afraid. There's so few people like that it's pointless losing your faith in humanity over it, though. You just get on with it.
I would think the cook took her side because I'm guessing she was older than you, maybe because she was female too. The cook probably thought, "troublesome kid! Ban him!"
You'll get that sort of prejudice until you're about 25. ;-; I still get it and I have a job and my own house.

It was wrong for you to be banned, you were not in the wrong. I respect you for going up and confronting those people, especially given the reason they were being so rude to you. If I was in that situation I probably would have just laughed when they told me I had eaten a living innocent animal and walked away. If they can't even tell the difference between a living animal and one that's been turned in to a steak they probably aren't worth talking to.

You should have lured them into a dark alley and murder them. Just kidding, but anyways, those are some stupid as fuck people by the sounds of it. I hope you made the argument that animals aren't anymore innocent than people because they eat each other as well.

If a person really believes with every fiber of their being what their doing is right then they should not need to yell at someone else for not doing but set themselves as an example, trying to tell people what is right and wrong will make the people bing toold what to do not want to do it and the preaching idiots(both atheists and religous people) angery for not submiting to them.

Also what happened to you was totally unjustified...Sorry

Actually they were harassing you in public. After you established that they were vegetarians you should have told them "Leave me alone, I do not wish to be disturbed by you any further, if you choose to continue harassing me I will call the police." If they said anything else, you should have immediately taken their picture, called 911 and waited for the cops to arrive.

1. I don't believe you.

2. If true, then go into the kitchen and explain the bullshit calmly.

What idiot doesn't know that fish is a living breathing thing?! o_o

I would report them to the police straight away, nut cases should not be allowed to walk freely.

thats damn weird, they sound like trolls, chances are you arnt banned, they just said that to appease a "crying" woman

Assuming your story is true, Im fairly sure they decided to just fuck with you the moment they saw you for some weird reason.
I agree. Those people sound like trolls. They were shocked when they saw a young person eating steak in a cafe? Are they surprised to see people drinking a beer in a bar? Because that seems about as likely.

OT: I'd try going back and asking the talk to the cook/manager. Try to explain what happened and see if they will allow you to continue eating there. Odds are that they saw a "14 year old brat" making a woman cry and decided that the kid was automatically wrong.

As for me. If someone told me that eating a steak was wrong, because it was murder, I'd simply reply by licking my lips and saying, "Man, that was some good murder. I'll having to have more murder later." And then walking away. But, I'm a dick like that.

You have my full sympathies as this is unacceptable and I'm sorry to say your age probably worked against you here. If it happens again or something similar to this looks to occur, get the manager. They are a higher authority because as soon as the cook comes out and sees a teenager and an older woman in tears they immediately blame you. By getting the manager as soon as they sit down beside you, you have taken the high ground and shown you're the one being bothered.

My vote is go to the paper. write or fax in a short summary of this event (Don't go in person, again the age thing) as long as it's well written and such the same as your post here they likely should run it. Write it to the editor or as a short opinion piece if you think that will improve your chances or contact a journalist who often does local pieces. You know your local paper better than I do. As long as it's short and fairly concise (Maybe don't repeat the entire conversation just state they were talking about you and then approached and began berating you for eating meat) you have a decent chance of it being printed. I'd not necessarily suggest including the name of the place as it may seem petty the people involved will recognize themselves. That should be sufficient.

Best of luck.

Oh its perfectedly ALLOWED to happen. the question is should it happen? if thats the case, well, no, not really. you should have been able to present your side.

Though I wouldnt have handled the situation any better. Iw ould have just cut up steak while they were talking and made it look like i was listening and flicking it at them to they stopped talking and left.

Those people sound DUMB. It's ok though, you'll live. And just go back to the café like you always have. Just have a good conversation with the cook / guy in charge about the situation and why you really mind being banned from your favourite restaurant. Just take it easy, don't get angry (understand them; at that time it was the easiest way out for them, it might not have been the RIGHT thing to do, but you can set that straight yourself.

Oh and good job on calling them out on the fish. That's pretty hilarious.
