Whenever I insert a game disc in my xbox(not the 360) it makes a strange grunting/screeching noise before the game starts....is this normal?? has anyone else experienced this? Its almost as if my console is possessed >_<. My games do play fine 99.99999998% of the time since i got the laser replaced a while back. I have examined the discs afterward and they don't look damaged and they do play fine.

From what I've heard... your going to red ring.

But I'm inexperienced, so I don't know.

I can assure you it is not normal.
Well, the possession part is. My 360 has a very temperamental machine spirit...

OK now I'm worried...... Though i do remember contacting the xbox support several years ago regarding similar noises with a different xbox(that i replaced) and he said that the xbox does make a lot of noises. So i didn't think much of it...

I imagine that if your console could speak it'd be saying something along the lines of...

but I dunno.

Get it checked, my first 360 died due to something similar, it was the "grip" that holds the disk, it was a weak and eventually gave way sending a fully spinning disk into the insides of my console, certainly has all the hallmarks of what happened with me

I'm no techy, but if a machine makes a sound like a pig in pain, it's often time to start waving farewell to your games.

It's most likely something to do with the actual disk-drive. If it's been dropped, something might be shaken loose in the Xbox.

Either way, if the warranty's dead, I think you take a screwdriver to it before it shits itself inside-out.

EDIT - Also, put the "Not 360" part in bold red letter, in size 26 font. I think people may be giving some useless advice due to confusion. (Unlike myself, why gives useless advice in full comprehension)

Microsoft's way of gently nudging you towards the current gen XBOX.

this seems like the most likely solution. I don't own an x-box so I wouldn't be an expert on it, but it seems you got yourself a problem there.

Thank you Machine-Sprit, for a safe loading. Blessed be in the name of the Omnissiah

My guess: something is going to go bust, soon. That kind of sound just isn't normal. Play the games while you can and take the chance of a disc breaking/getting scratched once something does go bust or take the console pre-emptively to maintenance.

Not sure which option is cheaper, if you got some kind of guarantee left etc.

But think about it and decide what seems like the better option.

When I had a 360 it always made a scary rubbing sound when the disc started I was told it was normal as long as the discs where not getting scratched. If they where getting gouges taken out of them a tech said I would have to replace the drive.

My old old old old PC used to do that and then I was installing Fifa 2001(shows how long ago this was) there was a load bang and the computer started shaking, i turned it off, unscrewed the dvd drive and opened it up and lots of small bits of cd fell out.. shards went everywhere lol. It was bye bye disk drive lol.

So to cut a long story short, i wouldn't trust it. we aren't all lucky enough to have a Fifa game trashed for us, it could be something decent for you

That's weird as it's not a 360. But my brothers 360 does this when a game is loading. It makes an awful loud noise that sounds like a drill.

Sounds like what mine starting doing that just before it started freezing after 1-3 hours of playing (depending on the game).

If it does die, tell me where you went looking for a new one. My Xbox overheated and *something* must have melted cause it is now dead.

Advice: Get it checked out by an expert. If it gets worse, stop playing IMMEDIATELY.
