Doncaster, which is famous mostly for sporting events and horrific child violence. It's also the AIDS capital of Europe, and I believe it has the highest teenage pregnancy rate too.

On the positive side, it hosts the St. Leger, one of the country's most well-known horse races, and I'm proud to say my team, Doncaster Rovers, are the most successful football team in England since the inception of the Premier League, in terms of success achieved relative to crowd size, money spent and a few other factors. Essentially, they topped a league table of English football's biggest overachievers, which is quite a proud feat.

Doncaster is also responsible for Tony Christie, who penned such classics as this;

For one, my hometown was founded in 1682. It's the home of the worlds largest Naval base, NATO's defense headquarters, the headquarters of Norfolk Southern Railway and a large civilian shipyard.

Narvik, Norway. The first defeat of the nazis in WW2. Joint forces of norwegians, englishmen, french and polish retook the city shortly after its invasion in 1940, however the joy was short lived as these forces soon were needed elsewhere and bewildered german forces driven to the swedish border could march back into town and retake it with little resistance.

So we were conquered just like the rest, but still claim fame as the place of the nazi's first defeat.

has the house of a little guy called... GEORGE STEPHENSON! you may have heard of him, he was a major pioneer in building steam trains?
i dont mean to brag, but a lot of people here are taking about their home city, or have fairly obscure people. then again, i cant talk because i dont appreciate that this guy lived here. half the time i forget that my ex-high school was named after him
