I offensively and aggressively push an unfounded hatred of Apple Computers.

There, I changed it to be a bit more forum friendly. Always love seeing new questionable people emerge into the forums. Really puts my faith in the belief we are not a bunch of degenerate apes.

On topic, it does seem like a pretty hefty flaw. However, I can't really see a difference between a Mac running Windows software and a normal PC as far as use is considered. Must be the way it handles data. Doesn't seem like much will be done unless they get a stronger foothold in the market.

Why do Mac haters always jump at the opportunity to point out that Mac's aren't invincible?

It's really no different than the trolls promoting the console wars. Just more examples of people wallowing in their own insecure and imbecilic nature.

Why Apple is constantly having to prove itself to the rest of the world is beyond me ridiculous. If you PC nerds were comfortable enough with your own OS to not bash OS X every chance you got I might be more sympathetic. I don't hate Windows I just prefer Mac and there are a lot of people who feel the same way, yet you don't see us going into every PC forum we can find pointing out the countless problems Windows machines have.

I have to agree with your statement. Also, that makes what 2 issues to Mac products vs the what 500k + out there for PC? I'm not seeing this as a worry to most Mac users.

Edit: I love how they say that Mac's are not advancing rapidly enough to keep up to date. How many years was it between XP before Vista came out? What about that fact that Vista was a lame attempt to copy the looks of Macs OS? Oh, and what about the fact that Mac's update almost every week not every 9 months. The Leopard OS hasn't been out long at all and there's another coming out this September. It'll be at least another 3 years plus before PC has one out. Not trying to start an argument or sound biased but just merely pointing out those facts.

Okay, first off, way to fall into the marketing ploy of PC vs Mac. They're all Personal Computers. Plus, new Macs are Intel based. You can run OSX, Windows, or Gnu Linux/Unix, whatever.

Secondly, Three years? Windows 7 is coming out October 22nd of this year. Hell, I'm using the 7100 Evaluation build as I type. Got rid of XP and everything. Works great, no issues. Then you have different flavours of Open Source OSs coming out all the time. In the last couple of years, Ubuntu, the one most say is like Windows or OSX, has two releases a year. Windows may not make releases just as quickly, but at least they release Service Packs for no charge, and please, don't go on about how Win7 is just Vista with a service pack. They've changed a fair bit under the hood.

If you think I'm ragging on Apple, I'm not. They're not my cup of tea, but I don't hate it. I just felt I had to offer a counter point to your statements. I cannot completely hate an OS that one of my favorite musicians does all his demos and some finished work on.

I run a virus scanner on my Mac every week. It's not that they can't get infected, its just no body's bothered until now.

Public dissemination of information about flaws in operating systems and software is our best defense against being hacked.

Especially for companies like microsoft and apple. These companies do not have a large patching/fix department compared to open source operating systems. In order for them to fix exploits, they must be public knowledge, and users of the operating system have to either complain about the exploit, or disable the component that is found to be flawed until it is fixed.

The most dangerous exploit is one that only a few know about.

Defcon and blackhat are hacker conferences in which information about vulnerabilities are openly talked about and proof of concept is demoed. These conferences aren't inherently bad, they are very good in fact. Most of conference attendees are security professionals who are there to learn about new vulnerabilities and how to fix or circumvent them from a purely professional standpoint.

I assume you're not counting Windows 7. I don't know exactly why of course, but you clearly aren't. It's true that Windows updates less frequently Apple does, but what's the benefit of getting those weekly updates? Has anything been radically redesigned since the original release of the OS that was patched? I personally don't use Vista (until my new home computer arrives and only until October) but at this point I understand that it's been pretty much "fixed"

But I'm willing to jump on this troll-grenade. Apple needs to prove itself because it markets an overpriced product with underpowered hardware and glazes over that little issue by selling it's product to people who are more willing to purchase a brand than a computer with any type of power. I could build a PC with the same specs as your Mac for considerably less money, it would be compatible with far more software and peripheral devices and unless you're a professional video-editor, it will probably perform better for the basic functions I assume you use (word processing and internet). There are two kinds of mac users, there are computer literate users who use it because they want support from native mac OS software and who would most likely have the sense to protect themselves from any obvious flaw in the system security. And there are the illiterate users who use macs because they think they are cool. The second type probably wouldn't notice, much less care if they were hacked, and the first group would be able to undo any damage in hours (if not minutes). So, I ask, who cares?

yea, i mean the systems are really the same. I'm pretty even on the debate, i use macs for writing papers and stuff, and pcs for gaming.

I've got an iMac and it loads in 10 times quicker than my dad's PC, it's never crashed, I've never had to re-install it about 8 times a year (at least) to reinstall the OS and it doesn't come to a grinding halt if I try and, god forbid, multi-task.

It's each to their own. Some people hate Macs some people hate PCs. I don't like PCs myself, but I don't understand why people get all worked up over it and seemingly ready to kill someone!

No computer is un-hackable. If people can hack into Government computers (as I saw not long ago on the news) then of course they'll eventually get into a home computer. Mac's are just made differently so the viruses designed for windows can't get in, but it's pretty obvious that some smart-arse hacker will be able to get through one of these days. It's inevitable.

Yeah the Pc was terrible, he's aaaaalways having to reinstall it - I even bought a Windows laptop to begin with but nope, that was riddled with viruses in under 12 months and I had Norton and the usual Windows firewall running at full pelt.

I think my dads has 2GB memory but I think it's the processors that are crappy because it just makes this horrible crunching noise when you try and do anything!
