anyone else having this issue with the site, where every single page has a chunk that kinda lags behind as you scroll, or kinda gets off kilter, making you have to read sort of diagonally? It appears to be caused by something in the background of every page, what appears to be pictures of some furries named Bethany and Gary. It just popped up recently and has been bugging me, anyone else seeing this or is it just me?

I couldn't find another topic about this, or where exactly I should put a "why did things go haywire?" thread. so if it's in the wrong spot my apologies.

Maybe it's your browser, I haven't noticed this myself but I am running Firefox on Linux...so I can't really say with certainty.

I've just started getting this exact problem recently myself and haven't changed my browser or any settings so it's not just you.

This is happening with Chrome for me, the top buttons don't load, or the forum pages don't finish loading. Also links like "so and so was suspended for this post" don't open the post for me.

Happens to me from time to time but nothing major. It only does it once.
And that poster thing on the side is an ad for a new Escapist show, I believe.

Yeah, it's that game dogs ad. I noticed it when it started. I'm not code-savvy or anything, so I've been living with it.

The H&R Block Ad is what's causing the slow webpage loads an alot of the lag. Surprisingly, those mucinex and carpet cleaner ads aren't affecting website performance as bad.

well it's nice to know I'm not just crazy. And yeah, I didn't mess with any settings or anything, I'd been reading the escapist on my good ol firefox for months and then suddenly there were creepy pictures in the background only appearing for an instant as the page first loads, and then dissappearing, but I know they're still there, the not so subtle splitting effect on every sentence as I scroll tells me they're still there, looking at me...mocking me...

You got the ad block+ extension running? Maybe try it (or any other advert blocker) out if you havn't, as it might auto-block some element of the site that's messing up your display. Or perhaps try using google chrome and see if it's any better, as it works fine for me on win 7 here.

no advert blocker running. And I think I'd rather limit my interaction with the Escapist to things that interest me immensely (Zero Punctuation) rather than pull up chrome to look at it. Not just because The Escapist is the only site I've found with this problem, but also (and primarily) because chrome seems to have a tendency of choking to death on it's own tongue.

i've noticed that exact thing, i was hoping that i wasnt going crazy.

But really the only thing is that i see those Something and Gary things, and the pages take like 2 extra seconds to load. I dont know why its happening.

Its because my responce was so GOD damn awesome that you cannot open it. Your monitor would spontaneously combust if you even saw one letter of what I typed there. It was really that good.
I've seen it. It was an annoying response by a closed-minded lazy person (the "lazy" part comes from my assumption that you didn't even read the thing).

My main problem is that I can only post in forums, recieve and send messages, add a picture and update my profile from the desktop at home. I can't do any of it on my laptop. Has anyone had this problem?

That felt uneccessary at best. Get a cheap shot off someone making a joke.
To me, it sounded like you were taking pride in what you wrote.
I didn't mean to insult you, just bring you down a notch.

What's wrong in taking pride in something you wrote? You don't think Oscar Wilde finished the Picture of Dorian Gray and then said, "Fuck it, this is shit." No, he got it published as a novel.

Nah I suspected you thought as much. Its no problem it was a bit of an arsehole responce to the thread but there is so much uneccesssary JRPG hate I just assumed the same was with that thread.
Yeah I know what you mean. :)
I love JRPG's and I'm getting sick of people complaining about them, but I've decided to just start ignoring them, rather than calling them up on it.
