Compare the number of people who bought a PS1 to those who bought an N64, the number of people who bought a PS2 compared to Dreamcast, GameCube and Xbox and you'll see that there isn't much support for your idea of a majority. Now maybe the majority of 360 owners prefer the 360 controller, and that would make some sense as they'd likely go for it because of that, but the majority of gamers in total - I don't think so. A crappy controller is a major point against a console, and no amount of good games could overcome that. If the majority of gamers didn't like the DualShock and preferred the GameCube or S Controller there would have been far fewer PS2 sales.
This argument isn't valid. Correlation does not imply causation, or vice versa. Controller preference may factor in to what system is purchased, but a wide variety of other things also come into play. Saying that a controller layout resulted in more or less system sales is bordering on ridiculous.
You're not taking into account what I was responding to. The argument was that the majority of people prefer the 360 controller, based apparentl on the responses in this thread. Console success as well as the desire of PlayStation 2 owners for the controller to stay the same for the PlayStation 3 says a lot more.

Still an absolutely shit d-pad though.
That's the only Gripe I have with the 360's controller. That D-Pad is disgusting. Scrolled down bottomed out saw MadCats logo and it made no impact on purchase choice.

Ugh, while I enjoy the idea, I dislike the company.

Madcatz has a hilarious/maddening failure rate.

If MS made a controller like this, I might actually be interested. But then again, probably not, as I love the 360 sticks. Most comfortable controller, since the NES, to me.

Everyone whining at OP he does have a point. Some games benefit from the DS3 controller setup, like Soccer games (360 movement), Fighting games (Easier combos), or driving games (well placed analog). There's a reason these games' genres sell better on the PS3 than X360, which is contrary to popular sales trends (which are mostly populated with Shooters).

In fact, the movable setup is perfect, since you can swap the position of the dpad/analog depending on the game you are playing.

It shows how sad the state of Xbox 360 controllers is when the only pad with symmetrical analog sticks is one where the left stick and d-pad are reversible.

I'm happy though, my left wrist is starting to really hurt from dealing with the 360 pads, and it's nice to finally find a controller that solves the issue.
Its not that big of a deal, Microsoft just did it so playing on the PS3 would be more annoying and not worth it, I mean seriously there wasn't much point at all. Basiclly, it was just another excuse to make another difference despite the fact that the two were the same thing and another attempt at getting xbox players to not buy both systems. In essence it was a step towards a monopoly.

MADCATS!?!?! I pass thanks. Don't need this for my dust collector.
Is there any good custom controller brand? I had a SW3 wireless controller for the original Xbox and it didn't even work unless it was next to the box it sends signals too. Piece of shit that will probably sell alot on ebay if I wait enough for the xbox to get old.

The Hori controller. Good for shooters(The joysticks are comfy) Excellent for fighting games. The Dpad is amazing. It wired and the cable is long. It's price is fair $34.99

Meh, DEFINATLY prefer the 360. The Joystick is far better positioned. When I hold a controller, the thumbs automatically rest further up. So putting the joystick there is a big plus. The d-pad isn't much of a deal to me, I hardly use it. Even for Street Fighter, I still use the joystick. Investing in a Fightstick for that though.

Uhh that looks awful. I HATE the Play Station analog sticks. The 360 sticks are perfectly placed. I don't know what "sad state" the OP is talking about.

Personally prefer the 360 controller to the PS3. The stick layout feels more natural to me so that controller doesn't impress me.

I am much more interested in this controller.

It has an improved d-pad (although still not perfect but it may be even better in the final product), two mappable buttons, adjustable control-stick sensitivity, it looks fucking sick and it being designed by Razer, so I won't have to worry about it falling apart in two months.

I'm just waiting on a release date.

I have no problems with the 360 controller, my fingers never miss their mark. I've been comfortable with it since day one. The Ps3 controllers however are a pain in the ass for me to use, my hands are too huge for them. I can use them without extreme difficulty, but I always find myself feeling uncomfortable with them.

However, not everyone's hands are the same, and I believe that there should be multiple controller choices for every platform. Just remember, it isn't bad placement, it's just that you're more comfortable with different designs than some people are.

You see, I'm the opposite; I play my PS3 for too long, and my left wrist (right beneath my thumb) starts to ache, because the stick on the button makes my hands sits funny. The stick up top is more natural for me. Of course, I also play most games using "The Claw" position for my right hand, which is where I have my right thumb on the right stick, and my pointer finger is pushing the buttons (I use the side of the finger to press several at once), while either my middle and/or ring fingers are pressing the right shoulder buttons so... yeah.

Edit: Should probably mentione that the PS2 controller didn't cause me any problems beacue it was both larger and heavier, and my hands sat in a more natural position.

The 360 controller is fine as it is. It fits in your hand well, and the left stick, the most used one normally, is placed in a great resting place for your thumb.

I don't use the 360 much cause its my bro's console. So I can't say much. but from what I have used it I think its quite comfortable. Though i believe its a matter of opinion. My favorite controller so far has to be Game Cube.

That looks painfull. My left hand would cramp like that.
All I wish was padding where the triggers are.

I love the way the xbox controller is. It doesn't make my hands hurt like the PS3 game pads do. It just fits nicer. :)
