Seeing how there's been a rise in nation centered threads lately I decided to jump on the bandwagon too.

So, write any comments or things you think about when you think of Italy and if you have any particular question about the country, the language, the culture or anything related to this topic I'll be happy to answer.

Italy .. Well. From what I've heard it seems like a almost poor country. But this probably has something to do with [a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/jump/18.104501.1654592]Spawn_of_Kyuss' post[/a] to do. It's probably underrated. And .. Stereotypical mafia .. ish =P

I've heard that people drive like maniacs, like in France and Spain.

Also, people talk with uncomfortably loud voice and far too much, but that may be just me since I'm from a country where no one ever speaks. At all. And its ok.

I read a book about the works of Michelangelo Buonarroti, it was a really interesting book written as if it were a novel. I really want to go to Florence and Rome to witness these works of art with my own eyes. Plus I want to taste your Espresso, and pizza, and ice cream!

I love italy, I have been there a few times and have never met anyone other than polite, friendly welcoming people.

My in laws retired to france some 10 years ago and so in recent years (since knowing my hubby) I've made an effort to learn as much of the language as is feasible and I've never felt encouraged by native french speakers.

But on holiday in italy, grasping my little phrase books and a few pat sentances the locals I encountered helped with my pronounciation, politely corrected my grammar and seemed genuinely pleased I'd made the effort, what a beautifel bunch of people!

Italy, life loving people who for some reason drive like maniacs. Oh and fyi people, they have this sick way of speeding up and blowing through cross walks without looking, crossing the street is a contact sport there.
Wow, that's one stereotype I wasnt aware of, although you do have to be extra carefull when crossing the road.

I f'ing love Italy!!! I was in Rome two summers ago and all I want to do is go back! I'm thinking about becoming an art critic so I hope I can study there for a year/semester or something. If I can afford it >_<

Might I know where you heard such things?
First of all. No offence if any was taken.
I don't know .. It's jsut .. From every picture I've seen it's just those stone-buildings and dirty roads and those kids with dirty clothes running around. Now I'm sure this is all totally wrong. But it's just my impression. WHat I think of when I see the word "Italy" =P

Fair enough, although that is just the poorer regions. Most of it is on par with any other important European nation and we are part of the G8 so...

I was in Italy a few years backwards and the thing that stuck in my mind was the food.
