Well lets get the half credit answer out of the way first. I love me some ponies. Lots of ponies; Twilight sparkle, Fluttershy, Lyra, I love them all. I also seem to partake in enjoying the fanworks rather than the actual show nowadays, but its still good fun.

I love Dark Souls quite a lot. There are a decent number of escapees here that like it as well, but there seems to be a large number of people here who have not tried it too. I suggest giving it a try; it certainly is something to experience.

I just started listening to more music, and I figured out that I like Symphonic Metal as well as power metal. The genres just hits a special place in my brain and makes my blood flow with adrenaline.

Dislikes: Playing the first Mass effect kind of killed my interest in the series. I hear it has a great world, and interesting characters and locals, but god the combat in that game just killed it for me. I might have to trudge through it one of these days. I am not a huge fan of bioshock either. I am unsure how to explain it, but while the world was interesting, after I was told to go on another fetch quest in some area with plants, I just couldn't find the will to continue playing(this is coming from the guy who has played WoW since the original game was released, till about 7 or so months ago). The shooting also felt...off. Unsure how. Then again I played the PC port so...eh.

I Like: Call of Duty. Yes, they aren't the greatest games in the world and can be a tad samey, but in the end they are genuenly well put together games (excluding MW3) that are very fun to play. Plus, when it comes to online FPSs these days, it's one of the only franchises I like that I can depend on actually finding other people to play with. And besides, as bad as Activision can be, at least they aren't EA...

I Dislike: Listening to loud music/having the volume in my games or on my TV uber-loud. I like actually being able to not only hear the other people in the car or room, but also my own self. If I cannot do either of these, the volume is too damn loud!!

Well apparently black coffee, whenever I order it people insist I have milk with it. Then when I tell them I don't like it with milk in they look at me like I have two heads.
you have!
But all of us black coffee lovers have two heads, so your ok!

Me? I like super noodles (Ramen) on toast!
I also love classical music and opera, Madam Butterfly currenly resiseds on my Ipod, next to the Mass Effect 3: Citadel soundtrack and Danko Jones!

For something I dislike, I'll have to go with... TV.
Agrees, avoid it if I can, the most recent thing I watched on the box is a 20 year old episode of Morse.

It's when people's only argument against it is "It's fake, therefore it's dumb."
Next time remind them that so is the entirety of fiction. Firefly? Check. Huck finn? Check. Deus ex? Check. The Matrix? Check... The list goes on XD
there are peopel who argue that CGI is fake therefore its dumb and animatronics are not fake (its physically there) therefore its not. i think those people are mentally challenged, but they seem to be a great many bunch.

im one of those rare people that are almsot exterminated now that actually prefers cgi to animatronics.

So Escapists, what do you enjoy that other people don't and vice versa.
Erm, the answer would be the same for everybody - every single thing. That's the whole reason to have opinions. If you asked for an in-depth biography of people, that would be sort of the same magnitude of an answer as that question there.
It was just meant to simplify what I was asking. What do you like that others don't and what do others like that you don't?
That's it - every single thing I (or anybody, for that matter) like, somebody else wouldn't. Same with the things I dislike. There isn't anything that's universally liked or not

I know you said "ponies" is only a half answer, so for me it is specific ponies. I adore Rarity, who is probably the least popular of the mane six, and dislike Rainbow Dash, despite her being the most widely liked. Even background ponies, I tend (not deliberately!) to like the ones that aren't liked as much as another, associated pony. I like Sweetie Belle rather than Scootaloo, I like Bonbon rather than Lyra, and I like Octavia but not Scratch. Also, Luna may be interesting but Celestia is definitely Best Princess.

You are not alone. I like a rather broad range of body types, but pale plump girls tend to be what I really prefer.

I knew this would come up. I really struggle to enjoy it. There are a few djent tracks with some screamed vocals that my friends have shown me that I enjoy, but for the most part I can't fucking stand it.
That's how it starts. First maybe a band you like does it a bit, so you don't have a problem with it. Then as you listen to those songs more you start to get used to it. Then you hear some new bands that do it more and you think "this actually isn't half bad, in fact I kind of dig it", even though it still turns you off in most cases. Then slowly you get more familiar with it and find more bands that seem to be an exception to the rule. Then it turns in to you liking some forms, but not others. Then you find a band or two that do it in a way you thought you didn't like, but you somehow manage to enjoy it. Then suddenly you are completely okay with it in all forms, and you even enjoy it.

Or well, that's how it happens if you are so inclined. It's not really a conscious thing. It just happens. I guess that's the definition of an acquired taste.

How is that even possible? Wouldn't it just fall apart or disintegrate?

Sure I like Jpop like Ayumi Hamasaki and Hikaru and other Jpop with squeaky like voice but Girl Generation never appeal to me, I guess I could be on the fence and the fact I'm no longer up to date with the lastest music trend.
Hold on a sec, Girl generation is K-Pop.
But yeah, I think they are in the same general squeaky voice genre.

Anyhow, I dont understand Gundam.
I like Eva, Macross, Aquarion, and 0048, but not Gundam.
I keep trying to watch it but never really liked it.

don't worry man; it gets more tolerable over time. My roommate doesn't like growl/scream in his metal and neither did I for a long time. It's really an acquired taste; the more you listen to it, the better it sounds. Personally, I think Opeth is a great band for getting into growl/scream, as the songs are mostly instrumental and the lead singer also does lots of beautiful clean vocals with growls or just purely cleans vocals on some tracks.

Like: Live theater, both watching it and acting in it. It's not gay, nor do I find it boring. Who cares if there aren't flashy special effects and tons of action scenes (for the most part)

Dislikes: Smoking, drinking, partying. Typical young-adult stuff. Most of the people I know my age do that kind of stuff. I have no interest in it myself. And, no. I'm not antisocial.

I unashamedly like U2. Also I have a big appreciation for DC's Vertigo line of comics. I can't seem to find anyone to discuss the latter with : /

I can't get into D&D because of the math. I know it's simple math but I can't do simple math. 2+2?!? I dunno what this is! What's 2?!? Can I eat it?!? If D&D got rid of math and replaced with story analysis or journalism (...Somehow) I'd be the be pretty unbeatable. Because that's pretty much all I got.

You described everything I love about stealth! But it's not for everybody... Ha ha! I referenced the title.

I don't get the fascination with MLP, though. I just don't... get it.

EDIT: I also get a lot of stick for liking RHCP. A lot of people don't get why I like the band.

I like both of those things. The latter more than the former.

You can say "It's not for everyone" about absolutely anything anyone enjoys that isn't on like the first two levels of Maslow's hierarchy of needs. And even then there's literally people who don't like eating food, and will starve themselves because eating is not for them.

Even some of the most popular things around like football and sex are not things that everyone enjoys. "So Escapists, what do you enjoy that other people don't and vice versa." Silly thread topic is silly.

I have numerous sexual fetishes: to name a few, transgendered girls, flat-chested girls, and female bodybuilders. If I was to mention any of that to my mates, they?d call me gay for sure. And I still love to play my GBA from time-to-time (I recently bought Sonic Advance 2 at a market two weekends ago, because my old copy broke and I had such good memories, but now I have no time to play it because of my goddamn A-Levels getting in the way!). I?ve been a fan of Dragon Ball for, like, nine years.

I dislike Call of Duty because I?m abysmal at it (as well as most other shooters popular nowadays), and I generally don?t like the presentation. And because I have neither an iPod nor a strong interest in any kind of music, I don?t listen to it much or go to concerts like my friends do. On average, I can?t stand babies or any children under the age of 13, with some exceptions (like my friend?s one-year-old son because he?s genuinely adorable to watch). And Eragon is merely a shittier version of the already boring-to-read Lord of the Rings (although I understand Paolini was, like, 17 when he wrote it, so it?s a decent effort if I rank him by the standards of an amateur writer).

I like oldschool tank control survival horror. I picked up the controls no problem and can run circles around any beastie you throw at me, "bad" controls be damned. I think it may have something to do with RE having been my first real experience with controls in 3d.

This alone wouldn't exactly put me out of place on a website full o gamers, but one of my favorite survival horror titles was damn near universally panned by the crits: Rule of Rose. I will defend the story as one of the most poignant and under appreciated tails in gaming, and the world design as absolutely gorgeous... The gameplay? Yeah, I can't really defend that with a straight face. Bad even for survival horror standards, I guess my years of playing survival horror games inoculated me?

I will also always forever love punk rock. It was the music and culture that made me realize as a kid I could actually get excited about music and culture. It's a surprisingly varied genre too. You've got pop punk, ramonescore pop punk (punk bands who are stuck in a Ramones time capsule, who were in turn stuck in a sixties bubblegum pop rock time capsule, and goddamnit I still love it), 80's hardcore, d-beat, J-punk (not really anything that makes it its own genre, but when the Japanese do punk they do it stupidly well), dance punk, faux Irish street punk (seriously, fuck that shit though), thrash punk, crust, power violence, 80's new wave, no wave noise, ska punk (again though UGH can't stand it), cow punk, I could go on. If it sounds like I'm pulling this out of my ass they're all legit subgenres with distinct sounds. No one really gives much of a shit about punk these days since the late nineties to early aughts. Punk scenes can still be pretty vibrant all around the country though, and even moreso outside of the US!

Pro wrestling. I don't think I've ever had a real life friend who watched it much at all and it's never bothered me. Still I never bring up my fandom with people and that's never bothered me, because I know the weirdness and absurdity can be too much. But my friends and family have always known and it's no well kept secret or anything, but I've always gotten by just fine.

Like others have said, however, if I ever do feel like freely talking about it, sadly there's almost always someone who literally scoffs or just stares at you and blinks. Then they'll kindly point out that it's fake, as if they were breaking it to me that Santa doesn't exist. I just give them the short answer: "Fantasy is actually the ENTIRE APPEAL and fake isn't the appropriate word, but anyway..."
