@Emperor. It's the best out of the whole Myst series (I still have to play Uru), but in terms of the core 5 single player games, Riven was indeed the best. It had a solid storyline that didn't feel like fan fiction. The pre-rendered graphics were wonderful, captivating, and best of all, REAL. Even when I play it again today, it astounds me at how much effort Cyan put into the game. The sounds and visuals really made the world like it was on the verge of collapse. And the end of the game really showed a great example of the idea of cataclysm.

Agreed. I love all the details of the world like the bacteria that make water move away from heat, I love Gehn as a villain, I love the way all the puzzles make sense in the world unlike in most adventure games, I love how immersive it is (maglev rides, whee!), and I hate-love the ending for making me cry.

(Uru was fun though. Not spectacular, but fun. You can download and play it for free, and I recommend it for the puzzles and exploration. The graphics and controls are weak and the multiplayer really feels shoehorned in, though.)

I always have a terrible time with this. Even though nobody reads it, I always get antsy about putting a definite list in writing.

Pokemon Gold
Shantae
LoZ: Link's Awakening
No More Heroes
Team Fortress 2
Cave Story
Mega Man 2
Saints Row 2
Kirby and The Chrystal Shards
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door

I'd like to talk about some of them, the first being Paper Mario, which is a game that I enjoy a lot, but fate always conspires against me to beat. Such as a sudden power outage, a fried laser reader or an inexplicably corrupt data file. I'm sure I'll try again some day, and maybe some day I'll finally beat it.

Saints Row two is on there not because it's a game that I would really play and enjoy again, but because I chose the games based on a felling of fulfillment after playing them. I would probably rather play SR Three over Two, it Three didn't leave me with the sense of success and longing that Two did.

Similarly, Pokemon Gold is on there because it was the first game I ever owned, and I count it the single most important influence on my life. I wouldn't be who I am today without that game.

That the last one is Shantae, for Game Boy Color. It's banaynays out the whizow and everyone should play it.

Ah, the ole' "Top X games" thread. The thread wherein a hundred or more posters will list their favorite games...and never take the time to read anyone else's list. Good times. Good times.

Anyway, on to my pointless contribution...

Half-Life (series)
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time
Homeworld
Metroid Prime
MechWarrior 2 (and series, really)
Banjo-Kazooie
Conker's Bad Fur Day
Torchlight 2
Donkey Kong County

For the record, there are at least thirty other games I could have listed here; just off the top of my head.

I've been gaming since the 80's. Needless to say, I've seen a LOT of amazing games come and go. So a Top 10 list is rather difficult for me.

I read it, Vigor.

Cannot believe I forgot the Donkey Kong Country series. Second was my favorite, just that little bit of graphical polish, and hunting for DK coins kept me busy for hours! Actually beat the real ending once. Very entertaining game.

6. Call of Duty: Black Ops
7. The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall

Someone else on this planet that thinks Warrior Within is superior to the original in all ways that count? There is hope.
I'm told the combat in the orginal is terrible, so I never bothered to play it.
The combat is not badly designed, it's just really repetitive, The story and chemistry between the leads seems to make up for it for most people but quite frankly their banter made me want to vomit.

In no particular order.

1. MGS3
2. Hitman Contracts
3. Shadow Of The Colossus
4. Silent Hill 2
5. Kingdom Hearts 2
6. Batman Arkham City
7. Dino Crisis 2
8. Dead Rising 2
9. Devil May Cry 3
10. Grand Theft Auto San Andreas.
