Back everything up on a portable hard drive, then reformat and put everything back on, I had to do the same.
Perhaps show him where he can learn to do such.

Okay guys, thanks for all the help.

One more thing before I reformat - will Windows XP and the Internet still work fine afterward?

Do you have any idea how you got the virus?

Out of curiosity.
Let's just say I don't pay for half of my DS games.
I'm not a computer expert, but this sort of thing (the virus bit, not the other bit) has happened to me before. I'd recommend backing up all your important files on some sort of portable flash drive, to make sure everything's secure.

If you don't have an antivirus program, you should probably try to get one, and cleanse the system. If the virus still won't go away, salvage all your important files, stick them on said flash drive in case the computer can't be fixed, and take the computer to some kind of expert. That's pretty much all I can recommend. Good luck!

First off, go to another computer and GET THOSE DRIVERS, do that before your reformat.

I'd suggest not taking the irreplaceable, if it's a word file, try to retype, if it's a picture file, go upload it online to tinypic.com They MAY be infected, and frankly you don't want that on the new computer.

Secondly, some virus' plug them selves onto USB drives.

Frankly just nuke it, and move on. From the sounds of it there's no going back.

____________

Side note, can someone reccomend me a good firewall/antivirus something? Just something to PREVENT them coming in.

Thanks.
NOD32 or Comodo. i use them on both my rigs.

OP: could i please know what OS you are running?.

The best advice so far is the hijack this log file and moving your backside to the techguy or hijack this forums for advice, a lot of the advice here is... well it's bull in a china shop stuff, it's going after a fly with a bazooka stuff.

Here's some info for you though, if you download something in the future, most torrents will open with your torrent program, most images with your image program, music your music program etc. DO NOT DOUBLE CLICK the file to open it as you and most folk would do.

Open the program you would use to access the file and open it from within that program. If it's something doggy then the program will return an error and when you close the program the dodgy file will be deleted from your memory and won't do any damage to your computer. Where as a simple double click and you've given that dodgy file the freedom to do what the hell it wants with your computer.

I worked for an Anti-Virus company once, most of this crap only took us a few hours to figure out how to break. It was all the testing any fixes had to undergo before anything could be integrated into the scanner that lead to the few day window between detection and it being integrated. Usually we had a fix out as an executable the person could download and run by the end of the day.

Hai guise. Looks like I've got a computer virus. I'd post a screenshot, but like with most other programs the virus refuses to let me open Paint. "Windows Security Alert"s and porn keep popping up. My computer is slow. My anti-virus and anti-malware programs won't open, and though I frequently used both, neither detected this. What do you guys think I should do? Should I just nuke the whole thing, and completely wipe all data (I've put the irreplaceable stuff I want to keep on USB drives)? I want to take it in to my uncle's friend, who's a computer technician, but at the moment I have no idea how to get to him.

Also, if I wipe my computer, will I have to re-install something to make my Internet and router work from a disc? They both came with disks if I remember correctly, but like with most things my mom threw them both out.

Anybody help a commie out? Not sure what to do.
Wow, that's a pretty massive fuckup, but yeah, I go with the common idea.
NUKE THAT SUCKER!
Make sure you can hide the evidence afterwards. The aftermath usually tends to make people embark in pointless quests to find one's father.
And back up your stuff. It works.
