My whole life is a lie so if I couldn't lie then I would be stuck in a paradox of lies on the fact I couldn't lie but life is lie *Head Explodes*........ouch, my brain.
It's a quotation from the movie itself. It's difficult to recreate the humor if you've not seen itEvilbunny said:There's no way I could do it. I'm not a compulsive liar or anything, it's just if you want to function in social situations you're going to have to lie at least a little bit. It's sad but true.

You have to because repressing that thought is essentially lying.Seldon2639 said:Hell, if it was just "have to answer every question honestly" I could probably pull it off. But, if I had to tell people exactly what I thought about every second, I'd be screwed.
Maybe, but omission isn't the same as lying. The latter is an active statement of something which is untrue. The former is leaving out something which is true. Since the wish in the movie was just that the father wouldn't be able to "lie", there's a little wiggle room. I'd need a specific enumeration of the restrictions in said wish.Frank_Sinatra_ said:You have to because repressing that thought is essentially lying.Seldon2639 said:Hell, if it was just "have to answer every question honestly" I could probably pull it off. o__o oh sh!t, i'd be screwed if i had to always speak my mindFrank_Sinatra_ said:You have to because repressing that thought is essentially lying.Seldon2639 said:Hell, if it was just "have to answer every question honestly" I could probably pull it off. Easy. I gave up lying a long time ago since I figured it just means more trouble when it was uncovered and means trouble to uphold the given tale.Frank_Sinatra_ said:So I am wondering how you would handle a (I'm upping the ante) full week without lying?
Me. It makes life easy. When everyone around you has bad expactations it can only get betterSeldon2639 said:If everyone already thinks I'm a jerk, it won't do me any harm to be perfectly honest. But who in the world would want to be House?
yes, because an exagerating would essentially be lieing,joystickjunki3 said:Do exaggerated stories count as lies?
Well in the case of the movie omission is considered a lie so you would have to tell them if they asked you though.Seldon2639 said:Maybe, but omission isn't the same as lying. If omission is treated the same as lying, it'd be far too complicated. Would it be that I have to say everything that comes into my mind, or that I have to say everything I've ever thought (for instance, having to call everyone I know up and tell them what I think of them)?
But Man Law says it's ok. Observe:tthor said:yes, because an exagerating would essentially be lieing,joystickjunki3 said:Do exaggerated stories count as lies?
even if u didn't say anything that wasnt true, u would still know that maybe "it wasnt as bad as i'm making it sound" or something along those lines, so you would essentually be lieing
So it's less "truth" and "lie" and more "ability to filter what goes through your head." I guess it makes sense. Every lie we tell is crafted, and usually after we've thought about what the truth is. If there's no filter between brain and mouth, then we'd both tell the truth if asked a question (no way to lie if you say what pops into your head) and would have to do things like he does in the courtroom, where he finally badgers his own witness.Frank_Sinatra_ said:Well in the case of the movie omission is considered a lie so you would have to tell them if they asked you though.Seldon2639 said:Maybe, but omission isn't the same as lying. Example: In one part Fletcher gets into a elevator with a woman who is very well endowed. When she says that everyone has been very nice to her he says "Well thats because you have big jugs", where he would have probably said nothing or "Thats because your so cute".
Only on the spot do you have to tell the truth, you do not have to call everyone and tell them what you think of them.
