My whole life is a lie so if I couldn't lie then I would be stuck in a paradox of lies on the fact I couldn't lie but life is lie *Head Explodes*........ouch, my brain.

There's no way I could do it. I'm not a compulsive liar or anything, it's just if you want to function in social situations you're going to have to lie at least a little bit. It's sad but true.

.....what?
It's a quotation from the movie itself. It's difficult to recreate the humor if you've not seen it

I couldnt, I lie simple things just to please others such as if they asked if I had a good time in class or if the girl in the bar was as pretty as they said she was.....

It's not what you say, it's how you say it.
I barely ever lie, I don't remember the last time I lied to decieve someone.
I do make stuff up for comic affect all the time though, like jokingly say something that's obviously not true (usually something mean or offensive).

Once you start being completely honest for a while you just get used to it and you see lies are never really needed.

Hell, if it was just "have to answer every question honestly" I could probably pull it off. But, if I had to tell people exactly what I thought about every second, I'd be screwed.
You have to because repressing that thought is essentially lying.

Maybe, but omission isn't the same as lying. The latter is an active statement of something which is untrue. The former is leaving out something which is true. Since the wish in the movie was just that the father wouldn't be able to "lie", there's a little wiggle room. I'd need a specific enumeration of the restrictions in said wish.

If omission is treated the same as lying, it'd be far too complicated. Would it be that I have to say everything that comes into my mind, or that I have to say everything I've ever thought (for instance, having to call everyone I know up and tell them what I think of them)?

it's my understanding that the rules of the wish are as follows:

one must answer any and all questions directed at them and do so truthfully without omission.

so yeh I'm screwed because i can't lie about why i haven't done my homework, or what I'm doing on my laptop in my room with the doors closed(posting on the escapist of course, wink wink). Though nothing major would happen, it would lead to very awkward moments.

So I am wondering how you would handle a (I'm upping the ante) full week without lying?
Easy. I gave up lying a long time ago since I figured it just means more trouble when it was uncovered and means trouble to uphold the given tale.

So while a lot of people can not stand my honesty, I simply no longer care.

If everyone already thinks I'm a jerk, it won't do me any harm to be perfectly honest. But who in the world would want to be House?
Me. It makes life easy. When everyone around you has bad expactations it can only get better ;)

Do exaggerated stories count as lies?
yes, because an exagerating would essentially be lieing,
even if u didn't say anything that wasnt true, u would still know that maybe "it wasnt as bad as i'm making it sound" or something along those lines, so you would essentually be lieing

Well in the case of the movie omission is considered a lie so you would have to tell them if they asked you though.
Example: In one part Fletcher gets into a elevator with a woman who is very well endowed. When she says that everyone has been very nice to her he says "Well thats because you have big jugs", where he would have probably said nothing or "Thats because your so cute".
Only on the spot do you have to tell the truth, you do not have to call everyone and tell them what you think of them.

But Man Law says it's ok. Observe:
"97. You may exaggerate any anecdote told to your friends by 50% without recrimination, beyond that anyone within earshot is allowed to yell out "bullshit!" (exception: when trying to pick up a girl, the allowable exaggeration is 400%)"

So it's less "truth" and "lie" and more "ability to filter what goes through your head." I guess it makes sense. Every lie we tell is crafted, and usually after we've thought about what the truth is. If there's no filter between brain and mouth, then we'd both tell the truth if asked a question (no way to lie if you say what pops into your head) and would have to do things like he does in the courtroom, where he finally badgers his own witness.
