OT: After reading a few of the insults, it seems like people are just jumping on the bandwagon that the first reply obviously started... I know for a fact that none of you saints stay completely level headed in 100% of your league games.

I know ALL OF YOU have had at least one game where you get pissed off and flame others. There's no question in it, the only ones of you who probably haven't are those who have only played about 5 games. Now you should stop jumping down the OPs throat, stop pretending that you've never been there and stop pretending as if he's in the wrong when he said that he only came out with one comment.

Like...seriously, holy shit. It's a video game. The people you talk to in League of Legends are nothing more than text on a screen. Responding to their inept dribble is what they want. Half the time when I play LoL, I don't even pay attention to the chat log. Like I give a flying fuck what some random person on the internet thinks about how I play a video game.

I'm there (and you should be too) to have fun. You shouldn't let them get to you like that.

I don't generally get LOL hate comments anymore... I got them a decent amount when I just started and now I'm mid-level. When I start playing Ranked matches I'll probably start seeing them again. But to be honest, I can understand where of these comments come from. In a game like LOL, if one teammate is doing bad it could very well cause the team to lose. Lol is a very competitive game; I won't lie, I play to win and it becomes frustrating when a teammate prevents you from winning. But still, frustration doesn't mean you can call people out with hate-speak. Some people can control their frustration, others cannot... you get the latter teammates sometimes...

Like...seriously, holy shit. It's a video game. The people you talk to in League of Legends are nothing more than text on a screen. Responding to their inept dribble is what they want. I don't know what to call them) I had some anger built up as a result of going to school with quasi-cod kiddies, and likewise, I know that comments shouldn't get to me, but sometimes you snap and become contempt of a barrage of insults to such a point that you can't help but respond.

I DO remember rainbow six vegas being particulary unfriendly - where i got the game a year or so after it came out. So pretty much everyone was level 50. Most hosts booted me for being level 1. Gave up quite quickly with that games multi :/

Also, it appears that there's a "right" way to play the matches, and little room to improvise or try a different approach. Is this true? I don't see how it would be fun if I had to "do it right" and strictly adhere to my role. If I'm wrong about this, I would love for someone to enlighten me. I'd be willing to give it a shot if stories of the hellishness have been greatly exaggerated.

So let's sum up today's lesson.
Your attitude should always be: "Oh look, here comes Ragey Mc. bilespew and his friends hissy and fit. He's trying to start a flamewar? How quaint."
After that, ignore or block. And by ignore I mean don't even read his stuff or you'll get all hot and bothered after all.
If you're feeling particularly confident in your ability to stay in a good mood, feel free to poke fun like I did in the example above.

WoW. First dungeon with a guild. Got to a chest and i automatically click on it. I guess its an automatic reaction to me from rpgs. So i end up collecting a thing i didnt want by accident and quickly wrote, that i picked it up and others are welcome to it. But no, this one guy playing a dwarf just bitched and tried to get me kicked out the guild, bad mouthed me. This other guild guy said his like that and they accept it. I really think he believes his a dwarf the loser. The guild also wanted me to have a meeting with the guild leaders about it at a certain place and time in the game world. I thought this was bullshit and ignored them.

I still dont get why people react like that. Its a game. Its meant to be fun.

There's a meta in place, you can try to improvise but really if you don't know what you're doing you'll just end up feeding the other team then they will proceed to slaughter your team. There are 5 roles and you can't really go out of them. Top who plays the top lane, Mid you plays the mid lane, Jungle who kills the monsters in the jungle area and ganks other lanes, ADC who usually carries the game and support who baby sits the adc and gets them fed. The community can be bad at times but it's gotten better with the new honor system.

I was playing bot, purple team (where I always do worse), and I died once. The jungler told people to report me for feeding. I don't get how other players think that will make anything better, will inspire confidence or get a better result. Whenever I'm heckled, I always do worse, up to the point where I play my best but hope we lose just so my buttmunch teammate doesn't win. Anyway,I died two more times after arguing with him on the nature of feeding, he said, "And that's trike three!," and I disconnected. I'll bet they lost suddenly having to 4v5.

Oh, the classic "Mid of I feed" attitude was all to common. But best game ever was when there was a particularly obnoxious Lulu who at the start of the game went "WTF no jungler, I'm going to alt tab and surrender at 20". That's what they did, put up a surrender vote at 20. When we already all but annihilated the other team, 4v5. Incidentally it was one of my best Gangplank games ever. We proceeded to actually win while the Lulu was still raging and threatening to report us all for...I don't know what. Being retards who can't jungle or something. All I know is that they got 9 reports in the end.

Best part was? That player seemed to actually take offense when we won the game without them!

Rising summed it up pretty well. There are some champions who can fit multiple roles (Dr. Mundo, Sion, Kayle, and so forth) depending on what items you buy and how you play, but in general each champion has a well-defined role on the team.

Try not to think of it as "there is a right way to play a character" so much as "everyone can't be good at everything". For example, if you play a mid lane mage character (Ryze, Swain, LeBlanc, etc.) it makes the most sense to focus on buying items that increase your Ability Power (more damage), max mana or mana regeneration (cast more spells before running dry), or spell penetration (ignore enemy magic resistance). You could opt to build for attack damage or attack speed instead, but then you wind up with a character who cannot get very much damage on their spells but also cannot do enough damage by attacking to be helpful to the team.

You want to first match your playstyle to a role, then find a few characters within that role that you like and try to get familiar with their abilities. I highly recommend bot games for this step. Next you can check out some build guides for your favorite champions and try them out a few times. When you do this, try to understand why each item is there and what benefit(s) your character gets from it. This lets you start to really determine what your champion needs, and once you know that you can start trying out different items to fill those needs.

I remember one game I did with a couple of my friends, we ran one mid, one bot, three junglers. And we completely demolished the other team because we pulled it off well and before they realized what was going on, their confusion as to what we're actually doing cost them like 12 kills and a few thousand gold deficit.

So yeah, agreed. Improvization can be really fun, but you do need to know what you're doing, and make sure the other team doesn't figure it out too soon. Unconventional approaches are unconventional for a reason - were they always successful, they wouldn't be unconventional...

Today, I decided to try out Kennen, I wasn't entirely sure about him, after all, I absolutely suck as Akali and Shen, and I was convinced that the "ninja squadron" characters weren't for me.

Nonetheless, I thought It'd be fun to try him out, as I have a preference for all lightning-oriented characters in video-games, suffice to say, the match did not go well: I was up against ziggs, and my MS was painfully slow, I got poked a lot & died often during the mid game.

At around the 12:00 mark, Pantheon started projecting via chat, with the usual selection of CoD kiddie comments, when I called him out on it(I inquired if he's 12, I shouldn't have gotten myself involved, but anger took over), he barraged me with continuous insults, but it didn't affect me, due to the reason that I quite clearly had intelligence superiority.

I'm not hurt, or pissed or anything, I just wanted to know when was your first encounter with the douches of a gaming community(this was my first time), and how do you deal with it ingame, ie, what are your favourite comebacks(yes, I know, don't feed the troll, but we sometimes want to indulge in an attempt to beat the stupid out of cod kiddies)

-Kennen wins against Ziggs. Ziggs lives on midgame poke and Kennen has everything he needs to counter that.
-Against a skillshot oriented champion you start with boots. Kennen + boots doesn't have a painfully slow ms.

So PLEASE play at least a few games vs bots before you go out and just try a new champ in a normal game without knowing anything about how it handles.

and yes, you can actually have fun even while losing - if you have nice company and a good time; you know, do your best, crack jokes, stuff like that

that includes not asking for a major eff-up, for example by playing a new char, or one you don't play well, during a ranked match, of course - no need to provoke shit

i am also fully aware that we're talking about a competetive game here - but that's what it is (or, at least supposed to be): a GAME
like, playing football at school when you were younger - sometimes you lost, but you could still have good time
(come to think about it, it's quite fascinating that the traditional game-logic doesn't work for a lot of video games. weird)

But is your fun more important than my fun? I know guys who think it is fun to play AD Annie and AD Gragas, but that just ruins fun for the others who want to win. You might find playing AP Olaf fun, but I can guarantee the other 9 players will not find it very amusing, as they are stuck clowning around for at least 20 minutes.

You can have fun while losing, but you can't have fun when not trying. Too often people can't tell the difference between playing outside the meta/ trying something new and being a troll.

I feel some clarifying statements need to be put into my original post(at time of writing, I have added the necessary details I missed out, pardon me, rage did that to me).

Ill admit that I wasn't doing too well, but at most, my K:A was around 2:3:5, not good, but I don't think that it is awful, yet I had never encountered pantheon(in a fight) until the 17:00 mark; the reason for as to why I responded was that after two kills in a row, he and his team joined in on taking the piss out of my team: use of homophobic comments was immature, in my opinion, so I called him out on it, wherein he responded with MORE homophobic comments, and that's around the part where I got angry.
