So what is it like? I know where all sick of hearing about mw2, but I?m more interested in how successful the thing that caused all the arguments is? PC gamers was it the worst thing to happen ever? I myself played it safe and bought it for the Xbox, after cancelling my pc pre-ordered copy on the grounds that major pc titles to use such a console-ish system never caught on in the multiplayer aspect, for example Far Cry 2 and Medal of Honor Airborne (yes I know it now has dedi support but the community shunned it)

Its pretty lame, no choice of choosing maps, limited choice of games ( I want hardcore ground war dammit!.

Poor hosts create lagfests becouse the fact of the matter is the majority of peoples connections are not designed to host p2p games. If you do have a decent connection then expect to use up your upload limit pretty fast.

Theres torrents of problems, -no host migration see blah blah blah- -lobby closed- -could not connect to host- -5-10minute waits with people entering and leaving the lobby forcing a restart of the search-

Party system is horribly bugged.

Yeah I miss dedis :S

Yeah... on top of all this : if you cant connect to the IWNet server you're fucked. No chance that you can just choose another server...

Well I like it. Never had a single problem with it and personally don't get why it gets so much hate. I also don't get why you didn't get it for PC and got it for console when the matchmaking is exactly the same.

Can't pick maps.

Lag.

Host advantage.

Broken party system.

Friends knocked out of lobbies even when not in parties.

Up to 4/5 minutes looking for games.

Ugh.

I've had no problems with playing PC multiplayer. It's designed for quick rounds, you won't spend hours on one server.

I've experianced no lag.

No host advantage.

5 minutes tops before i'm in a game.

What is everyone bitching about?

Like i said, other games to use a similiar system like far cry 2 and moh airborne, the multiplayer died quickly and its hard to get a game on them... now i know cod6 is more popular then them, but i didnt want the same problem in a few months time....

Really? Another MW2 thread?
I did apologise, and its not really about the game, its more to do with the problem that has caused a lot of the mw2 threads on here... i was only interested in what people thought to it since it caused such an outcry of anger, and nothing was said about it once people started using it...

Gamers are a fickle bunch. They'll rage till they're red in their face, but never actually stand by their convictions. I'm one of the few people that I know that still have not touched MW2 (nor do I really want to. Dual P90s? Really? As if one wasn't on COD1 PPSH levels already).

Well, Borderlands was worse, but thats because they made the stupid, stupid decision to use GameSpy.

With MW2 and IWNet, its not unplayable, it just makes really bad matches 50%+ of the time and is frequently unreliable. Maybe it'll improve with time and patches, but if they can't be bothered to install a dedicated server system, I doubt they'll devout much or any effort to making IWnet work.

The real problem, as I see it, is IW offers less than even their previous game, and every other online shooter for the PC ... well, ever. And then the console people have just gone "Huh-huh, stupid PC people, now we'll get more effort on our stuff", which isn't true. Its not that they've devouted more effort to the XBox/PS3 versions, its that they've switched the time they would have taken making dedicated service support and put it into IWnet instead. ITs probably cheaper, but that just means bigger profits for IW/Activison, because they haven't spent anymore on the XBox/PS3 versions that they already would have.

What really cheeses me off is the way console games just act like the PC gamers 'deserved it'. And how they are acting like we are making a fuss over nothing. But what really gets me is a company has taken away features from a game, and the console gamers are happy about it. I just don't get why they aren't demanding their own improvements instead. Why no dedicated servers for XBox/PS3? Why no option for manual matchmaking on the consoles?

well suprisingly borderlands has been the only pc game ive not had a problem playing with my friends on lol... but cod3 on the xbox has a server list? just like the pc and at the time when it was one of my first xbox games i thought it was pretty good and have always woundered why other games have never done it like that.

It's fairly terrible actually.

I can play on a CoD 4 server with 64 players and my ping is 130-150.

I'd guess 50% of my MW 2 MP games consist of between 6-8 players and the ping would be I estimate between 200-350

Anything over 8 players and the ping gets worse and worse.
I am in Australia and yet on 5 occasions I have ended up playing with Japanese and Korean players. The lag is jittery and quite noticeable even on a good day.

Bottom line, MW 2 MP is PLAYABLE, but it doesn't justify the lack of ded servers.

It's like drinking OJ out of a plastic bag, sure it WORKS, but it's not the BEST way.
I don't care about the small amount of players per game, it actually balances out quite well, but the ping is sooo up and down, all over the place, terrible matchmaking etc.

Really guys. It's not that bad. There's a few times I get pissed off about wait times, retarded host lag (If IW.net chooses the worst available host, and host wont leave to save us the agony) and the like, but it's really not as terrible as everyone is making it out to be.

I'm honestly playing more now than I was with MW1. I had maybe ten servers in my favourites list and 99% of the time it was just TDM non-fucking-stop. At least now I can choose what game-mode I like and hopefully there's other out there who want to play it to, rather than praying that there's a dedicated that does sabotage and praying that there's people on it at the time I am.

Whuu?

OP: Yep, it's pretty bad. One of the worse ones in my opinion.

Bad lag, bad choice of locations, bad for not including mods and filled with hackers.
What kind of hackers? Only ones I've seen are ones who edit their level and are maxed already (max prestige). They still suck at the game though.

I only played it over at my friends house 4 days after it came out so maybe they fixed the hacking, but what I saw was people using aimbots all over the place. I kept getting camped by this guy with a TAR-21 from across the map, every time a headshot. Loads of them, on almost every server.
Haxz are still real...Had a guy ac130'ing me on Wasteland whilst ghilli'd up coldblooded motionless in a bush, and specing during KC/when I was dead on his team it was blatant.

VAC is Cack.

OT: IWNet works better than I thought it would to a degree, it pisses me off though when it boots a person out of the party so we can fit into a game - Or when people join leave join leave join then half your party gets sent to another game.

Host migration always seems to happen when I am in a critical part of a fire fight or first encounter -.-

Well, thats what I don't get, especially on the XBox - you pay for the live service, and all they really provide is the matchmaking lists - as far as I'm aware, the actual games are hosted on one of the boxes in use.

It doesn't even have to be a loss maker; if microsoft rented out a load of dedicated servers for XBox, they could probably make cash off of that too. And they still could have included the matchmaking, p2p service to act as either a backup or for people who don't want to play dedicated servers.
