So what is it like? I know where all sick of hearing about mw2, but I?m more interested in how successful the thing that caused all the arguments is? PC gamers was it the worst thing to happen ever? I myself played it safe and bought it for the Xbox, after cancelling my pc pre-ordered copy on the grounds that major pc titles to use such a console-ish system never caught on in the multiplayer aspect, for example Far Cry 2 and Medal of Honor Airborne (yes I know it now has dedi support but the community shunned it)
Well, Borderlands was worse, but thats because they made the stupid, stupid decision to use GameSpy.
With MW2 and IWNet, its not unplayable, it just makes really bad matches 50%+ of the time and is frequently unreliable. Maybe it'll improve with time and patches, but if they can't be bothered to install a dedicated server system, I doubt they'll devout much or any effort to making IWnet work.
The real problem, as I see it, is IW offers less than even their previous game, and every other online shooter for the PC ... well, ever. And then the console people have just gone "Huh-huh, stupid PC people, now we'll get more effort on our stuff", which isn't true. Its not that they've devouted more effort to the XBox/PS3 versions, its that they've switched the time they would have taken making dedicated service support and put it into IWnet instead. ITs probably cheaper, but that just means bigger profits for IW/Activison, because they haven't spent anymore on the XBox/PS3 versions that they already would have.
What really cheeses me off is the way console games just act like the PC gamers 'deserved it'. And how they are acting like we are making a fuss over nothing. But what really gets me is a company has
taken away features from a game, and the console gamers are happy about it. I just don't get why they aren't demanding their own improvements instead. Why no dedicated servers for XBox/PS3? Why no option for manual matchmaking on the consoles?
