I'm writting a report on Jack the ripper for college for my history and I love the subject especially the way no one truely knows who he/she was exactly despite multiple theories, so my question to you guys is who do you think it was? A man, woman, police officer, surgeon, butcher something else?

EDIT: If you can be specific and give details it would be preferred but go nuts even if you don't know much about The ripper

I have a feeling s/he was in a way one of those religous people who ignore one rules of there religon to cleanse the world of sinners, which is why s/he targeted prostitutes.

Did this for GCSE and i would very confidently say he was a doctor or a rich man. In fact one of the accused was a doctor who was known for extreme violent tendencies and was found dead in a river at the time the murders stopped. Having studied the extent of the injuies i would say the man had a range of anatomical knowlage that surpassed your average whitechapler. He knew what he was looking for and there were no random cuts. He was precise. Id say an outsider with a decent education or a doctor iether in whitechapel or nearby as most of the murders are localised.

If you dont want to get banned then dont post it.

OT: Maby the queens surgeon, that seems to be popular opinion. Though i'd like to believe that it was something more interesting!
From what ive been taught this is very unlikely as we know that while this man was educated to a degree in anatomical knowlage he wasnt very smart in other areas. His spelling was terrible and his grammer was also pretty poor. We know this because on the wall of a murder scene the words "The juws are the people who will not be blamed for nothing". Im not sure he spelt jews exactly like that but i know it was spelt wrong. There was lots of antisematism at the time in whitechapel and id like to think that the queens surgeon would write better and wouldnt be so up to date on the mood of whitechapel slums. Also his scentance is entirely ambiguous in meaning. This man was smart but he certainly had nothing to do with royalty.

It was a guy that lost his viginity to a prostitute. He wanted his virginity back, but she wouldnt give it back. He got so upset that he killed every prostitute that he could get.

Man with a time machine who went back in time to find out who Jack the Ripper was.

A man grew up obsessed with the stories of Jack the Ripper. One day he obtained the use of a time machine for the purpose of uncovering the secret. When he got there, at the time and place where the first murder took place, the hour came and went. Then, he realized that HE was Jack the Ripper. In his madness, he used the time machine once more to enact the murders successfully. He performed every murder precisely as the legends dictated, down to the last detail.

And for those of you wondering about the paradox: In the original timeline, this same man had no outlet for his own tendencies (which resulted in his own obsession with his own crimes). Thus, since he existed around the same time that time travel was created (utilized, deemed safe, commercialized, whatever), he picked Victorian England as a target. That wasn't the only target originally; it's just that the other victims were somewhat less publicized due to the circumstances.

The particular form of time travel used has a built-in paradox prevention device, which creates an identical existence in the destination time frame while erasing the existence at the time of departure. In this way, alterations are minimized, and any actions that may prevent the existence of the individual in question do not remove their existence (i.e. the paradox example of killing one's mother (before one was born) via time travel).

I still think it was Johnny Depp...j/k. I've watched a few shows about the Ripper Murders and no matter how much we discover, I don't think we'll ever know who he/she was. I think the most probable was that man who was the member of the Royal Family who had the medical training...can't remember his name, but if I had to pick, it would be him!

I heard a theory that Jack was a dentist. I always thought that was an interesting one.

Has anyone ever taken into consideration the possibility that in the future we may have time machines and someone decided to create quite a comotion in the past? I have, and therefore I believe it was Elroy Jetson.
Best. Theory. Ever.

I've heard that he was a barber (I think) and that he was a suspect in poisoning his wife and fled the country. It's a long time ago since I've read up on it so I could be wrong, but I remember something along those lines...

you're thinking of sweeney todd. jack the ripper is the one who dumped HOs in the river in victorian england. he is famous for having never been caught, making killings with surgical precision, and well, killing HOs.
