I find myself wondering where this bile originally started spewing from - what dark, shameful desire for Pac-Man did lead to such awful, guilt ridden transference that this man is clearly displaying?

*Time for a spot of pretentious chin stroking methinks*
*wearing a fake piece of facial hair to stroke* I think he's gay too... just... he seems REALLY anti-gay, and thats often a sign of overcompensation... Or he's just a bigot, but its nicer to think he's just confused rather than mean/evil.

I read that while in court with Janet Reno, he filed for battery because she touched his shoulder. The man really is a nutcase.
She gave him energy for free, and he complains?

At one point, I thought you said Jean Reno.
Ahh.

I wonder how far he's ready to go to harass anyone within the circles of T2's heads.

Doug, you've just proved our point. How could video games possibly have twisted our psyches to the preposterous extent that Thompson claims, when we're just so darn nice, that we even give a disgraceful bigot like him the benefit of the doubt?

I'll be the first to admit it, I understand where Thompson is coming from. I've seen interviews of him and figured that he had a valid argument. However, he seems to have a personal vendetta with Rockstar Games. And I never thought he would go through with something so childish and unprofessional as this. Then again, this is Jack bastard Thompson, the guy that wanted to ban Bully. Oh, and before you track me down for defending Thompson even slightly I'll have you know that I LOVED Bully and am greatly looking forward to GTA IV.

I'm looking forward to spotting a Jack Thompson easter egg somewhere in GTAIV.

Well, lets be fair - its not just Rockstar - I seem to recall him claiming EA were selling porn because the Sims had nipples behind the fizzle out thing they have when they go to the loo or what not. This, despite the fact that it wasn't true (the Sims are like barbie and ken dolls in that regard, apparently). He also went onto claim EA were activity supporting modders trying to 'sneek this pornography into the game' by making a mod to remove the filter. Thats right! He accused EA of supporting the fans and customers! And porno, but the first claim is the maddest ;).

Although yes, 7 year olds shouldn't have access to GTA or Manhunt or whatever. But thats not the game-makers fault. Blame lies with moronic storeholders who don't check age, and parents who don't check age either.

Edit: Oh, and it was depressing to hear that parliment (the UK one) actually talked about Bully because it 'lets the player be a bully, which is a serious issue!' Personally, I loved Bully on the 360 and I was bullied as a kid (I was the fat one who lived in aboard for a few years before joining the UK schools, and nerdy). If anything, the character you play in 'Bully' is the anti-bully, picking on the bullys to makes things better for every one.

Uh oh, Jacko seems to have resorted to the first grade final defense. Telling the offenders MUM! Did Strauss push him off the swings?

Jack Thompsan makes me want to commit violent acts.
Video games don't cause violence, Jack Tompson does!
Man, I'm tempted to write him an email about that.

I don't think Jack understands that there really are games intended for Adults. Someone told me that the average gamer is 30. I never looked into this but I believe it. They're the generation raised on Pong and later Duck Hunt. Just like older people wanting to see mature movies, older gamers will get tired of kid-friendly Yoshi in favor of mature characters and situations. The guy only sees the violence in everything. It's sad, like there's nothing worth liking; he's Daniel Day Lewis in There Will Be Blood.

Oh, who am I kidding. The guy's a just a jerk!

Dirty tactics, that. I think Jack can be a very funny man (sometimes intentionally), but a statement like that? This man is going above and beyond legalities here, into very dangerous waters. Er, again.
Yeah, we're now entering that region where for one brilliant, white-hot moment laws don't apply, as you beat to death a whingy, insignificant attorney for saying those things about your son. Not naming any names here.

When will he learnt that this game is not designed for children. Jack could redeem himself completely if he sued game retailers for selling GTA to children. Thats where the fault lies.

Um, no. Suing retailers is a terrible move, for Jack Thompson or anyone else.

It.
Is.
Not.
The.
Retailers.
Responsibility.
To.
Be.
A.
Parent.

I think retailers SHOULD limit purchasing M-rated games to those people seventeen and up, but that still doesn't mean they are to blame if a clerk ringing hundreds of people up happens to forget to check an ID, or mis-reads an ID and an "underage" person purchases a copy.

PARENTS ARE THE ONES RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR CHILDREN Period.

Jack would not redeem himself, not in my eyes. It is the parents responsibility to know what their children are playing. It is the parents responsibility to govern their children. It is the parents responsibility to allow or disallow the playing of M-rated games (or any games for that matter). Not the retailers.

What exactly would suing best buy do? How much is each underage purchase of GTA4 worth? $50? $100? $1,000? And who would get the money? Jack Thompson?

I don't know whether I am supposed to be angry, or whether I am supposed to laugh. But the fact that Thompson squeals on Zelnick to his mother, just hearing that is sickeningly loathsome. That is one step below asking your dog for advice.

-WHY- do people keep on reporting news on him? Sure, it's funny in the kind of way kicking a retarded puppy is amusing, but, damn, it's just encouraging him to come back more with something even more warranting of a punt. Really, he's going to get knocked off eventually, but he might as well fade from the public eye a bit before such happens.

XD That was my first thought when I read the letter.

Jesus H. Christ.

What in God's name is wrong with this man?

I could pick his argument apart piece by piece but I'll leave that for a braver soul.
