Did you expected Avatar to be better or worse? I thought that it would be total shit but it was not bad at all. Also i think there will be a sequel, I mean they have all the data , all character models etc, it should be very cheap to produce.

Seriously, can we please get off the whole Avatar thing?

There's already about a million threads just like this.

I haven't seen it yet, but everyone keeps saying how good it is so at this point I've got fairly high expectations.

"meh" was pretty much my thoughts in a nutshell.

The original took like, 300 million dollars or something ridiculous like that to make, the sequel won't cost less...

It looks terrible. I heard its basically the same old Evil White People Destroying Natives story, except with crappy CGI aliens in place of the Natives. But everyone says how good it is, so I'm seeing it on Tuesday. I have high expectations.

I went in thinking it would be an "ok" movie that wouldnt live up to it's hype, and it turned out to be a fantastic movie that Ive now seen 3 times. The only other movies Ive ever seen multiple times in theaters were all the the Lord of the Rings movies and District 9.

That's basically the story. If you go into the movie and don't know exactly how the entire story will unfold within the first 45 minutes, you better have been living in a cave for your entire life.

That said, it's remarkably well done. I love the movie, even as cliche as it is, because the characterization is damn good, the acting is well done, and it managed to keep me interested for the full ~2.5 hours, which is a mighty feat.

It's decent. The story isn't great, and it falls into the action blockbuster plot template, but the visuals are utterly fantastic and well worth the $10 to see on the big screen.

I thought it was often hokey and predictable, but then again, the first three Star Wars movies were hokey and predictable too, and that didn't stop them from being awesome.

Oh, quick question for other people who've seen the movie, by the way: Was it made clear what happened to the non-protagonist avatar drivers? You know, the ones we saw playing basketball and stuff in the beginning? Did they get to stay on Pandora too, and if so, wouldn't they have to do the permanent body-swap as well? Because, you know, eventually the psychic tanning beds will break down with no one to maintain them, and the power and human food and gasmask air filters will run out...

I liked it a lot actually. Sure the plot was predicable, but it was good enough where you could still go DAMN THAT LOOKS AWESOME while watching the movie and not be put off by the plot (this is why 2012 was significantly worse by the way).

I didn't really know much about it going in, only that the plot was easy to figure out. But after I saw it, I'd say it is now one of my favourite movies, if not my top movie. I saw it for the second time today. The graphics and acting were all done brilliantly, and I enjoyed the plot, and despite it being predictable, it was told very well. So yeah, I bloody loved it!

I thought the movie would be decent, and ended up enjoying it alot. The story is nothing special, but man watching it in 3d on the big screen was ridiculous. Did not even feel like I was at a movie!

I've heard alot of mixed opinions of it, because of this I am just going to wait until I have a chance to see it myself.

Also, being new and all there are alot of posters that will slam you for making a repeat thread. Just giving you a heads up.

Actually, it would. They no longer have to create the technology to make the movie, it's already been made.

My opinion on the movie: It was good. Not spectacular, and I wish I didn't need to pay extra for relatively unneeded 3D(though I could actually TELL it was 3D, not like Monsters Vs. Aliens....there was nothing 3D about it). Plot was basic, visuals were great, sequel forthcoming.

well you've pretty much got the right idea, except replace 'crappy CGI aliens' with 'beautiful mo-cap aliens'. for such a familiar story, they made it really compelling by making the visual experience absolutely awesome. if you've got high expectations, make sure you see it in 3D so you can see what people are really talking about. i saw it with someone who had already seen it in 2D and he says the difference is jaw dropping
