What careers or jobs do you consider beneath you and why? Is it because of your intelligence, education, physical abilities or something else? Do you consider the people who work these jobs to be beneath you as well?

What jobs would you never do, no matter how desperate you were or how much money they were offering you? Is there any way to make the jobs you consider beneath you worthy of your labour?

I'd never be a prostitute, jigalo maybe, but I am never going to stand outside a truck stop giving blow jobs out to fat guys named 'Big Jerry'.

Working in fast food. I have 3 years of retail management experience, there's no way i'm going to give food to a bunch of fat idiots while making minimum wage.

Working at any fast food restaurants and some good ones too ever since I've seen how people turn into dicks once they walk through the front doors of a restaurant. One time i saw a guy screaming at the cashier to make him a free new burger because he left the pickles on.....JUST PEEL THEM OFF.

Well I wouldn't want to be a lawyer because there will come the time when you might have to defend someone that is guilty but other than that i don't feel that I'm above any job

Mmm, I can understand illegal activities, drug couriering, prostitution (the bad kind) and the like. But...I'll have to disagree. Despite your protestations: You are -never- too good for any job even if you think so. There is no shame in working in a fast food restaurant, or menial labor, or sanitation or whatever. And like it or not, these are all services that -have- to be performed by someone.

If you can find a job you like, awesome, go with that. Just be aware that that may not always be the case, and you may be missing opportunities, that while not ideal in your mind, are still opportunities nonetheless.

Well I plan to travel the world, so I don't consider any jobs to be beneath me as I'll probably end up doing all of them to get around

This... eugh *shudders* (I also wouldn't be a jigalo - completely impossible as well)

Apart from that, if I really needed money, I do anything legal, like working in a fast food place. When I was younger I worked on a market stall, and, even though I didn't have time to do homework and stuff on a Saturday, I had way more money than my friends :D.

I wouldnt like to scoff at any job, just in case I end up doing it. Ive worked in a supermarket where I was the lowest form of life, and in a kitchen as a potwasher so I've seen a bit of what shitty jobs have to offer :D

And I'll probably be an unemployed Uni graduate in 3 years time, so I'm not gonna say an job is beneath me, 'cos I'll be desperate for one :p

A job is a job and a lot of people are damn lucky to have them. That said, I don't ever plan on going back into the fast food industry. I worked at Arby's during high school and it sucked. But at least it was a job, paid my truck insurance, and still gave me enough money to waste on every CD and game that came out.

I agree with others above me about prostitution also. The only two people I could see getting in that job market are either people who just love sex way too much or are giving up on life. Suicide of sorts.

I always imagined that I would never work in fast food... but that was before I became cripplingly poor. If McDonalds has a job going, I'll take it.

Oh, the shame.

Garbage men picking up your smelly trashbags, plumbers fixing your shit-clogged toilet, cleaners cleaning your toilets at works every other day, Janitors cleaning up your puke, fast food cooks flipping your burgers. These people deserve respect for that.

I don't think any job is beneath me or rather, I should say, I don't think anyone who does those jobs is beneath me. To the OP, I hope you aren't saying you are better than a janitor. I have a lot of respect for them. They do a job that most people wouldn't want to do. Imagine what public places would be like if we didn't have them. Disgusting. Plus, many janitors not only clean, but do maintenance work as well. If you were making a joke that went over my head, I apologize. The only thing I wouldn't do is work for minimum wage, but that is only because I wouldn't be able to support myself on that income.

One job I would do is trash collection. I hear garbage men make a lot of money, and rightfully so.

I've worked both in Fast Food (lasted 2 nights), a grocery store bake shop, and a couple of differant gigs as a Janitor before going into Security. Actually being a Janitor isn't that bad, and can pay better than you think at the right places. The problem is that a lot of places aren't willing to pay Janitorial staff fair wages, but some places do. You'd be surprised at what some people get paid to wash floors and do odd jobs.

As far as prostitution goes, well I would never be a Gigalo simply because most of their clients aren't women, and the women who uses them are usually pretty beastly. It's not like the fantasy.

*IF* I was a girl I probably wouldn't mind being a Call Girl, the ones I've run into (and yes I've met more than a few) service a higher class of clients than "Big Jerry" and typically the dudes (or girls) they wind up with wash themselves well before a "date" and as often or not are using them for some kind of kink. To put it into perspective (as it was explained). You would go "OMG I'd never do that" over being whipped, having someone pee in your face, or put plastic wrap over your face and then taking a dump on it. But really it's no worse than an episode of "Jackass" and she's making better money than Steve-O with less overall risk. It occurs to me that there are far, far, worse ways to make a living. But then again I keep being diagnosed with severe depression and self esteem issues.

The "Big Jerry" type girls are Stret Walkers, and no... I wouldn't do that. Those ladies are typically drug addicts and such, or what happens when a pimp gets their hooks into a runaway. That is plain nasty for the most part, and where most of the horror stories about prostitution come from.

Of course then again most of the girls *I* talked to were "dating" guys at a Hotel/Resort/Casino. Despite the various "busts" of prostitution rackets it goes on constantly and use your imagination on who some of them ultimatly work for. ;)

I won't comment on Sex Club workers since I currently have no real experience with that.

Please keep the peanut gallery to a minimum (given what I've said in some other threads I can already anticipate what some people are likely to want to type in return).

Girls do not pay men to sleep with them. Guys pay guys to sleep with them. The image of a jigalo sleeping with beautiful women and being paid for it is a myth.

Leaving the worlds oldest profession out of it, and other things illegal in this country (aside from a few things), nothing would be beneath me. Should times get so rough that I cannot find a job in the field I wish to work in, well I would do anything it took to support my self, and any others that might be along for the ride at the time. The concept any person being to good for honest work is foreign to me.

I did a security gig for a short time after returning to the states. I got $35 an hour which includes the bonus for having my own pistol and carry permit. Not that I wanted to but the money was to good to pass up after scraping by on a government disability check each month (remarkably easy when you are in Southeast Asia, and the pacific islands).

There are some jobs that I wouldn't do, but not because they're "beneath" me. For example I will never work at a clothing store ever, because I have before and it was the worst job ever.

I think it's funny that people actually think that they're too good for certain jobs. No job is beneath anyone. Sure you might not be living up to your full potential with certain jobs, but that doesn't mean it's beneath you.
