Hey guys, long time since I last started a topic.

I was reading the "Farewell Pokemon" thread and just got mad on Japanese junk again.

I don't want any retarded debates about freedom of speech, discrimination and whatnot, just keep it civilized, please.

Should Japanese ... stuff be allowed to EXIST?

I've got nothing against their culture, their TRUE culture, but everything against almost every single product that comes out of that country.

Garbage like Hello Kitty, manga, Pokemon, hentai, weird sexual fetishes like people shitting on each other and every little thing that makes people even dumber than they already are. I hate role-playing, but at least that's worth SOME social contacts, someone into that sort of thing could find a soul mate, but the rest is just worthless.

I mean, I usually am against ANY form of censorship, even on the most hardcore subjects such as pedophilia, for we can learn from almost anything. But most stuff Japan exports is just mind-rotting, on the same level as MTV, "reality" shows etc. I mean, yeah, most entertainment nowadays is complete garbage, but kids are getting more and more into retarded fairy tales just cuz they feature completely ridiculous art and things like 12 year olds having awesome superpowers and wielding swords the size of skyscrapers.

The worst part is that they're not only exporting this junk, but abusing it in their own country. It's fascinating from a point of view, really. I know some Japanese people and on average, they're smarter than most the white people I know.

How could they dumb themselves down to THIS level? I know people nowadays are sheep but ... A higher IQ usually means you're worth more than that, right?

Edit: some people just don't get it:

Yes, and their food kicks ass, stop spamming.

People: "I don't want any retarded debates about freedom of speech, discrimination and whatnot, just keep it civilized, please."

Which means, if you can't formulate arguments, don't reply to this thread. Calling someone a xenophobe or a racist is one of those cases. If those words spring to mind while reading this thread, stop right there, just click away, thank you.

Ethnocentrism. That's all I'm gonna say about the OP. Ethnocentrism and culturally-close-minded.

Wow, obvious xenophobe is obvious.
Just because you don't understand something doesn't automatically make it bad.

Dude you are going to get torn up here for this. Just saying.
Well I guess you are only focusing on the bad parts of their cultural products, its like If another country thought the USA have only made bad movies when they've only seen the transformers (Michael Bay) series as an example of their movies, without any knowledge of say Die Hard or Rambo.

So you hate Japan for a lot of stuff that just so happens to be produced,or popular in the Western World?

Are you seriously argueing that there's no Japanese works of fiction of any worth?

Because that's pretty stupid, and fairly racist.

To those who might scoff at the OP's mindset- www.gaijinchronicles.com . One of our guys in the frontlines. Give it a read. It is well worth the time- and might just add a few days to your lifespan.

I'm going to have to kind of agree with the OP here. I think the big problem with Japanese culture of how much it's been westernized, to the point that it's probably the most western country in the world. And that leads to things like a massive and rather stupid pop culture, over the top advertising, and useless products and gimmicks. I think that Japanese culture is pretty awesome pre-1950, but then it just got weird and excessive.

Aye that be the best course of action here, matey!

OT: Although I'll agree that some freaky shit comes out of Japan I've still taken a liking to a lot of things reaching Europe. I've also taken quite a liking to two Japanese classmates who are just... Awesome.

Anyway, sounds a little bit racist there and you might want to elaborate on all that censorship-talk and abuse of things coming from their own country, because I can't really see it.

Oh, and one last thing; Anime is the best form of cartoons I have ever seen. It beats everything western-made except for Batman: The Animated Series and Phineas and Ferb. - Cowboy Bebop and FMA, anyone?

Do you live in Japan, OP?

Because unless you do, I'm finding it hard to understand why you'd have such an interest in stuff you don't like. Further, I'd warn against judging a country by the stereotypes of its media output. Sturgeons law combined with a biased selection means that if you don't like some of its projection, you won't like any of it - but to presume that this is the entirety of Japanese culture is hilariously misinformed at best, and downright xenophobic at worst - I could equally say that America is only capable of producing crappy sitcoms, gangster rap, and gun crime. (though if those were your only two forms of media the gun crime would be understandable.)

*Sigh* From the 6 comments I got, yours was the only one worth answering to.

Well, not, not at all, I've actually seen a few Japanese movies that I liked a LOT.

But I'm not talking about the good things, I'm talking about the garbage that's no better than MTV.

But, yeah, I know talking about manga here would be "bad", but I usually ignore bashers, I want arguments, not yawn-inducing conclusions about me being a xenophobe, racist, etc. Actually, I tried quite a lot of Japanese stuff out, just cuz I'm not the idiotic kind (you know, the kind that calls someone a xenophobe/racist/whatnot without even getting the point of that person's speech, like let's say ... the other 5 people that shouldn't have answered to my thread in the first place) and I try stuff out before drawing conclusions.

--- Just in case people don't get it: I don't hate Japan, I've got Japanese friends, think before you talk. I just hate their garbage. It's like saying MTV sucks, therefore, Americans suck, it's retarded and as some other guy called me, close-minded. Stop 2 seconds and actually use your brains before you draw lousy conclusions. ---

You can't just lump it all in one garbage bag. Sure there are some things us westerners will percive as "Shitty Entertainment." but you have to remember the Japanese as a people grew up very much apart from the western world.

Also anime like Full Metal Alchemist, Cowboy Bebop and Hellsing translate quite well into the western markets.

I agree with the OP here. Although the fault lies partly with america where for some reason its popular.

Im sorry but manga, anime, hentai are just sad IMO. My friend tried to get my into anime, but i hate everything about it. i could write a full fucking review on how much i hate anime, but thats a bit much.

American cartoons FTW Also im english, and over here we refuse the whole anime stuff. it is not popular here at all. The day people in england willingly embrace anime, hentai, manga etc, is the day our country loses all respect.

I should clarify i have no problem with japanese people most of the time, in fact i have some japanese friends.
Sorry to tell you this but anime is very popular in the UK, just because you don't see it in your everyday life and splurged all over the television doesn't mean that it doesn't have a following. I love anime and manga, but only the stuff that isn't too obscure.

See, the great thing about the whole idea behind this thread is that it's your opinion, you've already made up your mind, you aren't going to have a sudden change of heart. You're not a fan, we get it, but to make a thread bashing it? That's ridiculous.

I understand you don't like "garbage". But you essentially just took an entire sub-culture and decided that it was all shit and totally worthless just because it wasn't too your taste. Then you went on to say that perhaps this culture may not even have to right to exist. I understand that some of what comes out of Japan isn't too everyone's taste. And some of it is probably crap. But all just because you don't find something particularly entertaining doesn't mean you can say that it shouldn't exist or should be censored.

And the whole "It rots your mind" part you brought up sounds alot like when people thought rock and roll was "the Devil's music". Hell what about now-a-days? There are people out there that think playing video games will turn you into a violent sociopath thirsting for blood.

You have a right to like what you want to. But you don't have the right to bash an entire culture just because it doesn't hold anything of merit in your eyes.

Nice link man, thanks. But what do you mean by "on of our guys in the frontlines"? A Western guy or a Japanese guy that shares my (and a lot of other people's) point of view?

I live in France, and hell, it's more popular than breathing for some reason. But yeah, manga and such is just cultural decline.

A lot of the stuff they produce is really silly, but nothing else really. Just silly, not really degrading to society or anything.

Also, a lot of the stuff they produce is really great, such as some Manga and Anime. And some food. And some videogames.
