Take a look at this lovely ad for the Toyota Auris:

I'm curious as to the community's opinion on it. It's a harsh play on "Sex sells", and it really doesn't hold much more depth than that, it just reels you in and then defers your attention to the car with a nice surprise. Does anyone find it confronting? offensive?

I like it, I though it was really funny. I think that there were a lot of disappointed people at the end.

The hair is so so shiny, *envy*

Like pretty much all car adverts, it's dumb because the car itself is given barely any attention.

Okay, what does authority have to do with a car? Or a man in bikini bottoms? Honestly, it's the slogans these companies come up with that bother me more than using sex (or not using sex?) to sell them.

They could have found someone with more feminine hips, though; those gave him away immediately.

Boring.

Sex appeal is tragically ineffective. Not my sort of girl or guy for that matter.

I want to see the car in foot meets clutch ACTION.

Like the OP said, it's an interesting twist on the classic "sex sells" formula, and makes a kind of artistic statement. If nothing else it'll be memorable and I think the aim is that you would be likely to remember the commercial and then the car by association.

I thought that dude was a lady. Then I realized that it can't be a dude since you can't show female nipple on TV, but you can show man boob!

Also, this commercial is fairly tame. I've seen much weirder shit in Japanese commercials. I expect more oddly dressed random people and dancing!

The second it showed that ass I had a feeling it was going to be a trap >.>. It's clever, I'll give it that, but as a car advertisement it falls flat on its chest.

Seems dumb. I know nothing about the car now. Nice work, ad company.
That is the point though. Modern advertizing doesnt sell you a product, it sells you an image.

I think that's Andrej Peijic:

He's a real life trap and a damn fine one at that.
I'm assuming it's some kind of looks can be deceiving play they're going for.
More power to them really, sex sells and so does f***ing with people.

This. I mean, this advert was fairly low brow, but even the clever car adverts normally show absolutely nothing to do with the car itself.

Then again, advertisements are more about product awareness than actually trying to sell the product in a lot of cases.

Memorable advert, but a bit boring- as someone said i know nothing about the car itself, and that's what i want to know.

Dude looks like a lady! Frankly, it would have been better without the car and voiceover.

Though it does seem a little risque for a daytime (I assume?) car commercial...

Well he certainly had me fooled. I'm not sufficiently high-brow to not find that fun.

I can also appreciate the marketing shenanigans of trying to sell a perfectly ordinary-looking hatchback with lines like: 'turn your tail to common sense' or 'not authority, but Auris'.

I just laughed at it, I think it's a clever subversion of our expectances, and that might be the point of the advert.

Also, I would like to point out that, when we were looking at his ass, I did think those panties did bulge a little at the front. Didn't quite guess it was a man though.

I find it offensive that the guy has a way better figure than I do.

I'm going to eat a muffin and cry.

But seriously, it's a fun little advert. But waiting for the `Gay Panic`.

Seen it

Wasn't particularly impressed because I don't quite get what the marketing is going for other than shock value of 'OMG, it's really a man.'

As for the model, the appreciation of aesthetic beauty has nothing whatsoever to do with sexuality as far as I'm concerned. He is a very very beautiful man, anyone can acknowledge that without feeling 'compromised.'

I see what you did there.
I didn't necessarily know it was a trap but I did sense something "off" when I saw the ass. Something unattractive and not right about the proportions. So when he turned around I wasn't like "omg trap" I was like "oh, ok, no wonder I thought something was wrong."
That aside, who exactly is the target audience for this advert. Who's going to see this and want to buy that car.

EDIT: After posting this I went to get my coffee, and I couldn't remember what kind of car was even in the ad.
I think it was red ... but that could also be the color of his underwear >..<
