I've played Rapelay, gotta question?
Do you feel stupider for playing it?
Not at all, I find it entertaining.
Well, I guess there's an exception to the rule. If you look up +RapeLay +review, chances are you're going to hear the opposite.
If you're gonna play a Japanese eroge, especially one called RapeLay you should not be expecting substance or intelligence.

I guess that makes sense. You wouldn't stupider playing a game if your expectations of the game being mentally stimulating are set really low.

It's a game about anime rape. Nothing about that would indicate it being a great mental stimulator.

In my definition, the word "game" implies otherwise. But I'm really more of a flow theory type of gamer [http://www.jenovachen.com/flowingames/flowtheory.htm]. If you play for a different reason then I guess the flow theory definition of what a game is doesn't apply.

I consider most games mentally occupying not mentally stimulating. Most just cause me to phase out and auto through them, rare is the game that needs my conscious effort.

People are completely over reacting to the existence of these games. There's a whole psychological aspect of rape fantasy that makes it appealing to people who would never want to rape/be raped. It's taboo for one, there's a whole lot of powerplay in there that people from bdsm culture would find appealing, so on and so forth. Here's a look at it from a female perspective.

http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/brainstorm/200805/why-do-women-have-erotic-rape-fantasies

I'm a chick, I've played some of the little flash 'platinum' games online out of curiosity and they're so far divorced from reality that I'm not really threatened by idea of men playing them. As far as I'm concerned it's just an extension of the drive that makes regular couples break out the fluffy handcuffs when they're feeling a bit saucy.

Seriously, if people took the principles they learned from erotic media and used them in real life then 70's plumbers and pool-cleaning guys would have been the most over sexed guys on the planet. Hot female twins everywhere would be having constant threesomes oblivious of the disturbing incest aspect of it, and pregnancy rates would be down all over the world because guys would all... pull the train out of the tunnel... out of some strange need to watch themselves... unload the cargo... okay I'm running out ridiculous euphimisms but you get what I mean!

Oh those crazy japanese. I love it. I really do. "You have a problem with "rape" games. Fine. They are now "platinum" games. No rape here, just a bunch of surprise sex."
That is what you get for trying to force your own fucked up morality on another country. You can not condemn these games then try to claim that violent video games are okay.
I do believe I can. At least most - note, I'm not saying all- violent games such as first person shooters have some sort of moral standpoint for the destruction and killing. Something like Manhunt, yeah, OK I can see your logic there, but a game like Call of Duty? The ones you kill are the enemy, who've killed thousands, enslaved people, etc. A rape game cannot be morally justified to rational people, because there's nothing RIGHT or justifiable about rape. Trying to compare the two just isn't possible in most cases.

Sad, but true. However, I'd say that this is the state of a badly made game, and not that games should not be mentally simulating.

In any case, you've been very patient with my differing opinion, and I'd like to reward you by getting to the question you initially wanted to answer: How, in your words, is RapeLay like? What are some of the defining features that make it interesting to you?

Hmm, suddenly the support for the neocons is becoming clear.

I hear the "totally unexpected" cries of moral guardians again for some odd reason.

To begin with RapeLay is simply different. It's content alone makes it a rather novel experience. Then there's the amount of effort put into it, they devs did their best to make a game based on rape and include all the little trappings.

I expect everyone who plays it gets a different feeling but for me it's just novel amusement. The game as you can see is not the best looking game and it shows, so despite content involved I end up giggling over the anime sex.

The game has solid foundations however, they include all the positions you'd expect add a couple extra modes in addition to the "story" mode. It's all pretty simple and functions well for what it is. They have three different chicks to add some variety and that variety actually does change the way the situations look. If it was a major game it would be dissappointing but as a Japan only niche game it's a AAA title.

P.S. Clipping issues are funny to see in a game like this.

I laughed cola out my nose when I read this. I wish I had it on a T-shirt.

Although I'm not surely where exactly I could get away with wearing it.

A feminist rally. Do it! *just really squeaked with excitement over the idea* ,_,
Yessss! Oh! Oh! I got another one! What about a celibacy group meeting, you know those things where people pledge not to have sex before marriage.

Totally. Appropriate.
