Oh come on, Japan! I was hoping to at least get a few more decades out of life!

Seriously, I usually laugh at the Skynet doom prophet brigade, but the fact that this thing communicates with other bots and utilizes the internet to expand its knowledge is a bit unnerving, to say the least.

Useful, and amazing, but people ought to remind themselves that it is not self-aware, and that self-awareness is impossible with an Artificial intelligence.
Yes, this AI isn't self-aware, but self-aware AI hasn't been disproven, and is actually one of the main goals of AI research. If we are one day able to perfectly model a chimp brain (chimps are self-aware), then we can theoretically make a self-aware AI.

Developmental robotics are pretty cool. I had the chance to see one working in person. They taught the robot how to swipe a debit card based on constrained spaces or something like that and by using that single algorithm, the robot was able to complete a wide range of tasks.

Yep. That's not a recipe for disaster.

I can imagine it now.

"What is fairness?"
great... all we need to have it access is 4chan or any of that interweb pr0n... seeings how that's about 90% of the internet right there, we've successfully dropped the IQ of our robot friends by half.

"You want some more?"

OT:

A bit of a scary thought, but I don't really think it's a problem as long as it's knowledge base is kept on a tight leash and follows the 3 laws of robotics without twisting them into it's own interpretation (like in iRobot wooahhh man)

Why in God's name would we want to do that? It'll end up destroying us and it's cruel to make something that can't die.

Neat, I can't wait for the day when all manual labor is done by robots.
Then humans will be fatter and lazier, and I'll be able to conquer the world, with military drones of course.

"The robot remembers only basic knowledge, and it can apply the knowledge to its immediate situation." - most of the kids in my class can't do that.
Hell, most of the people in my cram school can't do that.
Long story short - world is doomed.

Your name says it all. I'm insane, and I want to play God. But really, sentient AI doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing. If anything, it will be needed for when we're all living in computers in the future. I want to be immortal, and we need AI to make that possible.

Fucking hell Japan, you'll be the death of us all.
Not if we make combat parkour robots first! That's to say that they can do parkour, but also fight in a war (fire assault/sniper rifles, take cover, etc.)

Aww, a bartender bot! Now for them to invent a fully operational robo-butler (been waiting most of my life for one) and I will be a happy pig.

Why always Japan with the technological leaps?
Because with the entire post-WWII agreement with America they can focus entirely on such things without defense spending. Which is expensive and time-consuming.

I wouldn't be too alarmed when the inevitable robot uprising begin, knowing that they think peas are water and ice is blue plastic.

To quote myrdon from doraleous & associates "we are screwed!"
Seriously, did no one learn from mass effect? Or system shock?
